MS Store error 0x87E00017 Install/update MCC

“Something Unexpected Happened” - “Reporting this problem will help us understand it better. You can wait a bit and try again or restart your device. That may help. 0x87E00017” - Microsoft Store Error message

I’ve been trying to download and/or update Halo MCC with the Halo 2 add on for a couple hours now. I’ve tried multiple resets, checked for updates in windows itself, made sure I had plenty of storage space, even tried a reset/repair to the windows store and nothing is working.

I cannot successfully reinstall Halo MCC since this update launched. I thought I had everything preinstalled today before 11pm, then once 11pm hit, I saw that MCC had an update so I eagerly clicked update on MCC. This essentially uninstalled my game and all the add ons.

Every time I try and reinstall MCC it starts downloading each game one by one, however every time it starts downloading one game, say Halo Reach- it will abruptly stop and say I need to download the game that corresponds with the DLC first. However that game being MCC will not download and continues to give me the error code: 0x87E00017.

Any help or feedback with this would be great.

Unfortunately I am in the same boat. While downloading the Halo 2 update something uninstalled my whole game and re-installing just results in an error asking to download the “app or game” it works with. Thanks for posting this, I’ll be keeping any eye on this post for future updates.

I have a similar problem with the error code 0x803FB107. The game uninstalled itself and now I can’t get it back. I’ve made my own post about this last night so hopefully one of our posts gets some help. I’ll be sure to share here if I get an answer.

I’m assuming both of you are having this problem with a Game Pass copy of the game? Apparently this issue has been happening mostly with that. I filed a support ticket and got back this reply:

> Halo Support is unable to assist in the Game Pass installation process. Please use the Xbox (beta) app’s Feedback option. The Feedback option can be accessed via the dropdown Profile menu in the top right corner of the app’s window.

You may want to go with the advice from that. Mine has somehow fixed itself over time. Still, if you want to stay more up-to-date the other topic I made seems to be getting new posts from people with this problem everyday. You can view it here. Best of luck to both of you!

I was able to resolve my issue with a few steps. I’m not 100% which one did the trick so I would skip 2 and 3 the first time.

  1. Cancelled any current MCC related installs on Microsoft Store.
  2. Opened command prompt as admin and ran wsreset to clear the MS store cache. This will take a few minutes and will close the Microsoft Store window temporarily.
  3. Once back, I checked the MS Store if there were any missing updates. I had one for Gaming Services.
  4. Opened the Xbox Beta app and searched for/downloaded MCC, NOT Halo 2.

After that my download picked back up and downloaded all the games (Reach, H1 and H2). I hope that helps.

I tried the steps and attempted to download MCC on the Xbox Beta App- however I received the same error.

Oh darn, i’m sorry to hear that.

Some other things I have tried prior to the above steps (based on some of the community feedback) was:

  • Updated the latest Windows Updates
  • Reinstall the Xbox Beta App
  • Deleted all the contents within C:\Program Files\ModifiableWindowsApps\HaloMCC folder
