MP Gameplay Worries

So I’ve been watching a lot of MP vids now that the game is out and regular people can play the game over XBL, and while I still plan to get it Friday a lot of the things I’ve seen have been worrying me. Maybe its just limited to those videos that I’ve seen, but here is a semi-comprehensive list.

  • Headshots seem WAAY TOO EASY. People seem to get headshots even though they completely missed or get a chest/shoulder shot. And it isn’t just on XBL - I’ve seen videos that are supposed to be LAN where it happens. I’ve even seen a few people get headshots that were physically IMPOSSIBLE, but still they got them.

  • No Rifle other than the DMR seems to have a point, except maybe the AR is CQC maps.

  • The lack of weapon spawns on the map seems to be discouraging people from leaving their side of the map after the initial fight. Because there is no reason to.

  • JiP seems to be constantly dropping people into bad games.

  • Personal Ordnance seems to constantly give people Snipers/Shotguns/Scatterguns, meaning people doing even just decent seem to have an endless supply of power weapons.

  • Sniper Rifle seems incredibly easy to use, sometimes with even complete misses being hits.

  • Thrust Pack looks useless. You don’t even get 1/3 of the distance you used to cover with Evade.

  • Shields take an age and a half to recharge. It seems really stupid that your shields won’t recharge before you get into another fight most of the time.

  • The spawning seems whack, particularly in FFA. It seems almost as bad as MW2/3 spawning is with people spawning in sightlines, on top of grenades, or having someone you just killed spawn right on top of you.

It’s mostly due to the larger hit boxes on heads, it’s not really an issue seeing as it’s fair for everyone

  • No Rifle other than the DMR seems to have a point, except maybe the AR is CQC maps.

Some are totally useless, but the big 3, DMR/BR/AR all have their uses. People seem to be crying right now over the BR, but it’s fine. DMR does seem to have a higher skill cap though.

  • The lack of weapon spawns on the map seems to be discouraging people from leaving their side of the map after the initial fight. Because there is no reason to.

Depends on game type. This usually happens in games like Big Team Slayer. Either get a vehicle and wreck s&$#, or stay back with everyone else

  • JiP seems to be constantly dropping people into bad games.
Haven’t had it happen too much, occasionally.

  • Personal Ordnance seems to constantly give people Snipers/Shotguns/Scatterguns, meaning people doing even just decent seem to have an endless supply of power weapons.
They have 3 choices. Sometimes you get crap that’s useless, sometime you get a good roll of the dice. Isn’t really an issue, except maybe promoting camping.

  • Sniper Rifle seems incredibly easy to use, sometimes with even complete misses being hits.
Larger head hit box might make it a tad easier. Most Halo players have gotten good with snipers by now, seeing as it’s always been a large power weapon in the past.

  • Thrust Pack looks useless. You don’t even get 1/3 of the distance you used to cover with Evade.
Absolutely useless. Increase the distance for Spartans by like 5x the current amount.

  • Shields take an age and a half to recharge. It seems really stupid that your shields won’t recharge before you get into another fight most of the time.

Tad slow. You can speed it up with “Shielding” but not by much.

  • The spawning seems whack, particularly in FFA. It seems almost as bad as MW2/3 spawning is with people spawning in sightlines, on top of grenades, or having someone you just killed spawn right on top of you.

Regicides scoring system is garbage so I’ve only played a couple matches. Can’t really comment on spawns.

From personal experience, the headshots are easier, but you have to actually hit the head. It might either be that I’ve gotten better after completing my first legendary runthrough, or the aim assist is too high.

The ordanance drops like the sniper or other power weapons only come in btb. I usually get 1-3 per game in a game. As to how easy it is to snipe someone, again you actually have to hit the head, but I must of got a spree off it on complex.

Oh, and you should keepin mind that most of the cqc power weapons have been nerfed massively in context of the overall sandbox. I can no longer come in with a sword and expect at least 2 kills before going down; I’m lucky to get 1. The saw is great for 1v1s and gaurantees a win so long as you aren’t killed by a grenade or emp, but you’re destroyed whenever you’re outnumbered.

The battle rifle is very useful on haven, or Abandon.

The thruster pack is made for cqc foolery or dodging behind a corner. It’d be op if it was an automatic veto.

The scatter shot’s been nerfed along with the sword in respect to the sandbox. As I said earlier, 1 kill if you’re lucky. otherwise you’re forced to go around and killing peope while they’re alone.

You get a full pack of amo with your loadout so I don’t personally see any incentive to stay at base.

If I had to bring one complaint, it’d be the lack of visible ranking. It’s really annoying when I’m starting to fight people on my level, and yet I don’t know where I am compared to everyone else.

I don’t know maybe, I have been getting headshots but I haven’t notice anything drastic or crazy

Not from my exprience, people have been spreading out for weapons and people to kill.

No, every rifle has it’s purpose. I like the DMR for long range play and some mid range. I hate it at short range and that’s where all the others excell and the BR is great at all ranges. Carbine being fast shooting, all different and all serve a diferent type of play.

people quit, people join simple as that. Halo CE had it so I’m used to it.

Ordance have been fun, I yet to have a problem with it.

The sniper is about the same as the other halo in term of ease of use if you ask me.

I like the thruster pack, most people have the wrong idea on using it. It’s a great AA.

I haven’t had a problem with spawning so I can’t say

From playing it the past 2 days, here’s my take on the things you’ve mentioned:

> - Headshots seem WAAY TOO EASY. People seem to get headshots even though they completely missed or get a chest/shoulder shot. And it isn’t just on XBL - I’ve seen videos that are supposed to be LAN where it happens. I’ve even seen a few people get headshots that were physically IMPOSSIBLE, but still they got them.

Haven’t really noticed this yet. I have been using the DMR a lot, I guess I just figured it was the gun being OP. I will have to look into it next time I play.

> - No Rifle other than the DMR seems to have a point, except maybe the AR is CQC maps.

This is mostly true. I have had pretty good success with the Carbine and BR so I wouldn’t call them useless, but they are still inferior to the DMR. The light rifle is very weak. Haven’t used automatics hardly at all.

> - The lack of weapon spawns on the map seems to be discouraging people from leaving their side of the map after the initial fight. Because there is no reason to.

I have seen this happen some, but honestly I think the bigger issue is constantly running out of ammo. Since there are no weapon spawns you are pretty much screwed whenever this happens, and it happens more often than you’d think.

> - JiP seems to be constantly dropping people into bad games.

It has done this to me some, but if you think about it, the reason you are getting put into that game is usually because players from the opposing team were getting dominated so they left. Once the next game starts and you have a chance to face the other team from 0 it evens out.

> - Personal Ordnance seems to constantly give people Snipers/Shotguns/Scatterguns, meaning people doing even just decent seem to have an endless supply of power weapons.

This rarely happens on Infinity Slayer. On big team more Snipers and actual power weapons will show up, but it’s rare enough to where it doesn’t hurt game play.

> - Sniper Rifle seems incredibly easy to use, sometimes with even complete misses being hits.

Yes. Gone are the punishing days of the Halo 3 sniper. This one is right up there with Reach’s in terms of ease of use. I have had several “Oh -Yoink-” moments where I panicked and squeezed off a shot in desperation only to find out I landed a headshot. It’s ridiculous.

> - Thrust Pack looks useless. You don’t even get 1/3 of the distance you used to cover with Evade.

This is pretty accurate. It desperately needs a buff. You move like 2 feet in any direction, hardly enough to get out of the way of anything.

> - Shields take an age and a half to recharge. It seems really stupid that your shields won’t recharge before you get into another fight most of the time.

This also seems to be the case. I haven’t timed anything, but I’m fairly certain they take longer than Halo 2/3 and are either on par with Reach or maybe a slight bit quicker. They need to buff this. No one likes sitting behind a rock for 20 minutes waiting for their shields to start recharching

> - The spawning seems whack, particularly in FFA. It seems almost as bad as MW2/3 spawning is with people spawning in sightlines, on top of grenades, or having someone you just killed spawn right on top of you.

Oh yes. Very much so. Several times I’ve been spawned at ground zero with 5 DMRs pointed at my head.

Hopefully well get some fixes soon.

I think op saw some killcam footage. It’d explain why he thinks missed shots count.

I agree about the DMR. I was so excited to have the BR back, but it just isn’t as effective. The DMR and BR are evenly matched when you pace your shots with the DMR, but the problem is that no one uses it that way. All you have to do is spam body shots as fast as possible and then line up a nice headshot. It’s even worse than it was in Reach because bloom has been reduced.

The closer you are, the easier it is to spam and still be effective. DRM wins with long range precision and power, and then has speed and more power than the BR when spammed at medium or close range. Choosing a BR basically feels like a handicap in most situations.

> I think op saw some killcam footage. It’d explain why he thinks missed shots count.

Nope. I’ve seen it in people’s livestreams and from their perspective of captured videos.
