343 I really hope by equal starts you mean we can pick our own primary weapons at spawn, and that all the weapons are balanced in such a way they are essentially all equal in their respective ways. I really hope you guys keep the carbine the way it is, rapid fire rate as fast as my trigger finger is, and being able to take on BR and DMR users. I never thought in a million years the carbine would be my go to weapon! And I’m sure many of us fast trigger finger people agree that the carbine took the right step in halo 4!
I agree with the carbine being beast. It’s great how it can challenge the likes of the battle rifle and DMR. I’ve always liked the carbine, but in my opinion it’s been inferior to the battle rifle, until halo 4

Agreed, even though it still falls short (barely) I love it.
I agree, everyone should have to spawn with the same type of weapon in arena multiplayer (Automatic or Semi-automatic). However, a choice between weapons in the same niche, such as the Carbine and BR, should work fine.
Meh, I would prefer to see 343 ditch the Carbine in favor of the N’ifle as a pickup. The Carbine is a functional clone of the BR and always has been. The same could be said of a DMR/N’ifle but in this case the DMR would be gone as well.
That would leave use with a utility BR and a ‘long range’ N’ifle. Essentially I want a strong niche sandbox before we start cluttering it up with redundant weapons. If my choices are going to be limited to aesthetics than why bother.
I actually like both the Carbine and DMR, we could just as easily have a Carbine as utility and DMR for long range, but I feel like the BR/NR combo would be more likely to be accepted.
> 343 I really hope by equal starts you mean we can pick our own primary weapons at spawn
When I hear equal starts, I think everyone starts off with the same abilities and same weapon.
I agree somewhat.
The Carbine is beast, but it sits somewhere between BR and DMR and doesn’t quite know what role it wants to fulfill in H4 (to me at least), which makes me less inclined to use it than a BR or DMR.
I’ve said this before, but I feel the solution would be to bring back the Needle Rifle as well, and make one of them a real counterpart to the BR and the other a real counterpart to the DMR. Ergo: they should function in the same way.
I’d say make the Carbine equal to the BR, because of its rate of fire amongst others, and make the Needle Rifle equal to the DMR (Which would then also get a real counterpart instead of being a weapon niche on its own) with the focus on headshots and the Needle explosion being a cool visual feature.
That way we could have equal starts and still be able to pick up a Covie (or Promethean) weapon without it acting differently. Each weapon would essentially be the same that way. Or, at least in the semi-automatic distance weapon niche.
I really hope “equal starts” means same starts.
The Covenant Carbine never really stood out in Halo 4 to me. It had more of a purpose than the Light Rifle, but it was still outclassed by both the BR and DMR.
343i needs to retool all the precision rifles, preferably by removing some of them.
Equal starts needs to mean same abilities, same starting weapons, and ditching ordnance. Ummmm like maybe… Classic Halo. And yes, this is how halo 5 multiplayer needs to be.
And Covie Carbine FTW!
> I really hope “equal starts” means same starts.
-.-’ Now you’re against it again? (BR/CC starts)((btw I’m just poking fun…for the most part ^-^))
Equal/same is well and good for the competitive crowd, as it should be. But I personally like a little variety, at least in my social slayer.

I feel a CC start NEEDS to be in ranked play, it so similar to the BR plus I would enjoy the phrase “Get 7 shot” to be a thing.
I’d like the BR, DMR, Carbine and N’Rifle all present. Problem is, gotta have damn near perfect map design for it all though, a hard accomplishment indeed.
Hope 343 makes the game more balanced like before the TU.
They only needed nerf the DMR and boldshot but ended buffing all other weapons making the game more cod like and making the BR the best load-out gun there is.
Hope 343 doesn’t do the same in halo 5
goes to custom loadout corner of the room I think I’ll just chill over here…

Huzzah! CC users unite!

Why do you feel as it would be more accepted? Carbine as utility and DMR for long range. Sounds perfect.

I could live with that. But would your ROF still allow me to fire as fast as i want?

I strongly disagree. All I use is the CC and have a positive KD, I can out gun BRs and DMRs at mid - to close range any day. At long range though, that’s another story.
Carbine = BR
Needle Rifle = DMR
LR = BR/DMR
This is what has been suggested (essentially) earlier in this thread. Each remains unique, whilst still fitting the same niche. Only a couple minor adjustments would have to be made to make them more even pairings, too!

I agree with that!
I am fine with the competative playlists having a more limited sandbox in terms of weapons. But one of the main reasons I don’t really get into that competative stuff is it will inevitably be all about the BR/DMR or another single weapon again.
If that is your cup of tea: go ahead. No problem. But to limit the entire sandbox is not something I support.
I’d say give certain weapons more equal counterparts and have a wide selection of weapons to be used in campaign, Firefight/SO, BTB and Invasion. Preferably with personal load outs too in those playlists.
