Movement Inertia Is Too Low

…no. I’m arguing for Halo physics. Engagements are designed around outmaneuvering your enemy. Strafing (with actual momentum/inertia) is maneuvering, rapidly jittering left and right to avoid bullets due to low aim assist/bullet magnetism is PC -Yoink!- that doesn’t need to be in this game. Hell, Halo MP is all supposed to be “canon” and yet we can phase through each other. It’s bad.

Halo takes place in a fictional universe, but one which ostensibly follows the same physical laws as our own. Certain deviations may be necessary for the sake of gameplay, but allowing player characters to ignore a key principle of movement in a way that makes the game more frustrating is both obnoxious and immersion breaking.

now youre talking about canon. sorry man but i cant really take your points seriously anymore. The physics arent bad, I think its just change that people have to get used to, because it is a big change for halo combat. these kind of physics have been around in the best of multiplayer games and its good halo has finally caught up.

Canon and immersion are important; they give the context that makes gameplay enjoyable. If I just wanted to competitively input button presses I could play Excel Spreadsheet and time myself.

Also, the fact that other multiplayer games have similar physics just means those games also have bad physics. Halo should be better than other games, such as by giving more weight to movement and rewarding maneuvering skill over button-mashing.

its all about balance and fun gameplay. In the flights. strafing/base movement was faster. It was a little too much. but now its in the sweet spot after a speed reduction

My original post, and this entire thread, has been about how and why the lack of inertia is neither fun nor balanced. Just saying “it’s in the sweet spot” doesn’t make it so.

Don’t take it up with me, 343i is the one that makes a big deal about canon multiplayer.

Also this.

wrong.

Right.

“Best” is a strong word.

Well this is just ignorant. Did you know that when a chimpanzee that learns an effective method to crack nuts open is placed into a new group that uses a less effective strategy, it will eventually stop using the superior method just to blend in with the rest of the chimps?

Halo is better than being one of the dumb chimps. It’s a smart chimp. Not a chump.
It was already doing things BETTER than those other games, so if by “catching up” you mean “regressing to match what everyone else is doing”, then yes, it definitely did that.

and ive been arguing this entire time that it is fun and balanced

destiny has slow strafing. maybe you should hang out with those chimps?

And this entire time you’ve been incorrect. Glad we’re on the same page.

Nah, loot ain’t for me, I prefer to keep the better series better. Thanks though champ.

Obviously we are not on the same page. Heres some food for thought. Why are people mostly loving infinite? Fast strafing cant be as bad as youre making it out to be. I make arguments that the movement is part of success infinite is currently having.

Except it is one of the many things consistently complained about on this feedback forum, if not the lack of aim assist or bullet magnetism, all three of which contribute to the same problem.

Just because Infinite is popular doesn’t mean it doesn’t have problems. This is one of the problems. And it’s also one of the changes to old Halo that didn’t need to happen.

Furthermore, it’s not something the majority of players will notice - only those at a high skill level and longtime halo players. Those coming from PC and games with ridiculous physics are used to bad physics. That doesn’t mean Halo should bring itself down to their level. And that’s also why they won’t talk about it, those people don’t even realize there’s something to talk about.

Many people just say aiming is “off”. Instant strafing is a massive contributer to that.

The reality is, this halo finally unlocked its strafing. thats why aiming is off with old players. shooting on target in past halo’s was too consistent and now fans are going through growing pains getting used to how shooting works now just like most of the current top competitive/popular games.

Your arguments keep coming down to “momentum-free movement is New and Popular and therefore Better.” New and popular may be true, but being different from old Halo only means different, not better. The consistent aiming frustrations of old and new players alike, and the dominance of micro-strafing in multiplayer, indicate that the lack of player inertia actually makes the game worse.

Eh he can be blissful in his ignorance, point is 343i needs to make a change so hopefully they’ll fix this. Lmao the craziest thing I’ve experienced was someone dodging practically in place. My reticle was red for an entire magazine, but he managed to jitter through half my shots. Wacko

Well, wasn’t a whole magazine because he got the kill after 7 or 8 volleys. Still never should have happened

its dominant because players are trying to track targets movement instead of predicting the spammed movement.

If you made all those popular games have slower strafing, everyone would notice. They would complain that its unresponsive and feels like walking in mud. Modern gamers like fast movement. the destiny players dont realise how bad their strafing is. Actually they do, thats why everyone slides everywhere. .

I would have killed him

Sure champ. I’m sure you would have.

actually what you described is normal. 50 perccent accuracy . not exactly crazzy

I’d like to see you aim ahead of time if the target is just strafe spamming without getting carpal tunnel.
There’s a vast difference between able to track a target with your eyes vs tracking them with a controlled reticule.

If I could just laser things with my eyes, I’d get Killionaires every game.
