Mouse wheel input for weapon switch

I tend to roll my mouse wheel a number of “clicks” when changing weapon, however, Infinite seems to register all of these as a valid input, so it ends up switching my weapon as many times as there are clicks. If I roll the wheel an even number of clicks, I’m back to the same weapon. It’s not something I generally have an issue with when playing other shooters, even though my behavior is the same. I’m sure I could adapt to it and only move the mouse wheel once “click”, but it seems to be an oversight.

Or just bind it to another key. Most games use 1, 2, 3

I agree, it constantly causes me to overscroll during fights and instead of swapping to another weapon it overscrolls to my empty gun. there needs to be some sort of debounce on the swap input or allow us to set weapon slot one and two on scroll up and scroll down.

I thought it was my mouse being weird, but it’s good to know it’s not just me experiencing it. I put weapon switch on my mouse button and it’s immediately better. I don’t know why it just doesn’t default to hitting a number on the keyboard like every other shooter.

With only two weapons held, I think it makes a lot of sense if you scroll down twice or three times it should only switch weapons once. I know some other games are like this. It would make switching weapons much easier.

No.

Debouncing! God, do you know how long I was looking for that word?! Total waste of a software engineer here :frowning:

I’m not a mouse player but that sounds very reasonable that a single scroll, no matter how many clicks would be one swap and then a second swap could be another scroll. You could still do that easily in quick succession but removes the human error rate.

I found it instinctive to switch weapons with the scroll which is interesting, I’ve seen other players use it for zoom. I’m tempted to buy a keyboard and mouse for casual play only. Hated it as a kid so always stuck with controller but as an adult I do like the way it feels. Aiming is so slick, it’s just the movement that feels a tad difficult by comparison.

Yep, would be nice

I also have this issue and wish they would fix it. Basically, whenever the change weapon bind has Scroll Wheel Up or Down present, some debounce should be present for that input just like it is in Halo Infinite, Apex, and MW.

Yes, this is very annoying. MCC operates this way too. I hope it is something they put some attention to.

Many people including myself like to use the wheel because it’s easier and more comfortable to use. Should be an easy fix for 343 since no other game I play where you have only two weapons does this and I would imagine that there is a pretty large audience of players that use this binding since many other fps games use it by default.

Not a solution for everyone, but I found that for those with a Razer mouse using the Synapse 3.0 software and the Macro Module, you can fix this by replacing the scroll up and scroll down actions in your profile with macros. Two Macros need to be made, one for scroll wheel up and one for Scroll wheel down containing a sequence of just the Scroll one click, followed by a blank keystroke for 0.12s. I have this added to a profile specific to MCC and it works very well. You can still switch weapons pretty quickly but it doesn’t scroll over.

Using the number keys for weapons has been a standard for a while, while the scroll to swap is sort of an old artifact of gaming.

So having the keys for only 2 weapon slots is kinda moot, but so is registering multiple scroll wheel inputs.

For me, I typically bind jump to scroll wheel with melee and in-game/PTT -or- grenades to the thumb buttons.

For Halo, swapping “F” to a generic weapon cycle would be more than fine. You just need the one input to swap anyways.

although maybe a split input like scroll wheel up does one thing while scroll wheel down does another thing, but doesn’t take several detents as multiple inputs

It was brought up a number of times in the PC specific thread for feedback. I’m sure they’re aware of it.

I’ve always liked when games have a toggle between weapons. In BFV I can just hit “1” and switch to my secondary, but I usually use scroll wheel down to switch weapons.

It doesn’t seem like it would be to hard to implement one swipe = one action like was already mentioned. That’s how most games behave.
