What it says on the tin. I started trying to do the weapon drills with controller, and actually practice with it, yanno? and… man, it’s just so much easier.
Like, SO much easier. This is nuts.
What on earth is going on that this disparity exists? I’m a fairly decent player, but this aim assist is like baby’s first fps.
I don’t care if Controller is stronger in every way compared to MKB but as an MKB player, I’d like Controller players to stop pretending they’re disadvantaged or something.
After all this time, all the proof that’s out there and all of the top KBM players that moved on from Halo. You would think this would have stopped by now.
so i’m actually hybridizing… using the controller in my right hand, keyboard for movement and actions, have my mouse at the ready for when i pick up a sword
It’s pretty much been established for nearly a year now that Halo Infinite is meant to be played on a controller otherwise 343 would have “fixed” the MnK input by now.
Knowing that the only solution is to give aim assit to everybody makes me sad.
I don’t feel proud of my “progress” if my aim did not progress. It will feel like winning a game thanks to a teammate (except here the “teammate” is a script…) I’m like « well ok it’s a win but… gosh I’m not good ».
I don’t play PC to get an AA. I can understand controllers need a little bit of help to play properly but isn’t there any other solution ?
This game needs more balance between different inputs. There is no doubt. But I’m really not fan of this new generation of assisted aim. It’s not fun. It’s not competitive neither. It’s not really us perfoming.
So earlier, i was saying that aim assist was too powerful. But this is a weird statement, because aim assist on halo 3 is actually stronger- but DESPITE this, halo 3 plays better between kbm and controller. So I started researching.
Yesterday, I found a video that explains how aim assist works on youtube, and why it feels so much more powerful than halo 3. It’s not the strength of the aim assist, it’s the way it’s being done. In halo 3, your reticle slows down when it enters the circle around your target. In halo infinite, it slows down only when the reticle is actually ON the target. In H3, this means the aim assist isn’t actually auto-targetting, because the reticle is sticky to the circle the target occupies, but you can fire and still miss- you have to actually put your reticle on your enemy yourself. In halo infinite, if the aim assist triggers, YOU’RE ALREADY AIMING AT THE ENEMY AND DO NOT HAVE TO MOVE THE STICK.
I don’t know what the reasoning for this change was. But I think it’s part of the problem, at the very least.
I don’t understand how someone who plays FPS on KB/M could then switch to controller. You are already using the peak of precise input, but downgrading to controller because YOU KNOW it’s a mandated aimbot input. How is that enjoyable? If I well and truly felt I had to use a controller I’d just not play the game. In a way it’s making you and others who do the same part of the problem. If devs keep adding PC/console crossplay to their FPS and everyone keeps switching to the inevitable controllerbot, then there won’t be anyone left using KB/M, and the novel concept of skill and aim will die out.
This is why I won’t switch, to me it would be the same as adding actual aimbot with KBM. That feeling of software winning. I have played two games with controller, just to try it out. Completely plug and play, no settings adjusted other than FOV and on screen weapon placement and it was just too easy. I could see myself getting used to it, dialing in settings and learning to exploit aim assist. Would not be an enjoyable experience for me, at all.
343 should of done one of two things…
Used the Beta for an actual Beta, both inputs together and analyzed the data and adjusted accordingly.
Or…
Never released it on PC along side console. Their “broader audience” failed within a year because of this.
343 only care about their depressing eSport “”““pro””" scene where people are playing for money using autoaim controllers (despite having access to KB/M). I am seeing a potential parallel with Rainbow Six: Siege. Now I haven’t played it for years, but it started out plagued with issues and the pro scene was primarily on console. However as Ubisoft fixed the game and the pro scene moved to PC, it became massively successful. Even now as a 7 year old game well past its peak, it still has 4.2k viewers on twitch right now, while Infinite has a measly 570.
I think 343 are relying too much on the old guard of Halo console players, of which there aren’t enough sticking around anymore. And as a lite arena shooter, the series has little appeal to the modern zoomer console gamer either. They bet on the wrong horse.
