So I have discovered that Xbox One is going to get mouse and keyboard support. Of course the devs of games decide whether to have their games support mouse and keyboard (Unless Microsoft has the final word I am not sure) but having controllers and mouse and keyboards in the same games in Halo 5 could make the multiplayer void of fun due to the skill gap if not ruin it(What I think could happen).
So I want to know what the Halo Community thinks, should 343 give Halo 5 mouse and keyboard support?
I freaking hope not. Goodbye balanced competitive multiplayer. The Elite controller is already going to do some serious damage to the balance, keyboard and mouse support would just finish it off.
There’s always the argument about fairness, but then again, nothing is really stopping anyone from buying a keyboard and a mouse. I personally wouldn’t want Halo 5 to support mouse and keyboard, but that’s purely for selfish reasons. I don’t have any actual argument against it. If somebody wants it, I can only bend to their will.
To be fair, mouse and keyboard is available now.
What I think is crazy is the device I linked tricks the Xbone into thinking it’s a controller, so you still get auto-aim benefits and the precision of a mouse/keyboard. Wowzers.
I’m not thrilled about this. It would be great to use in forge, though.

Agree, but only for forge not for campaign or multiplayer

Could also be nice for theater maybe. Easier to splice clips together using mouse/keyboard controls I would imagine. Hopefully theater has this functionality.

The idea is that there are so many different custom mouses and keyboards out there that it just adds so many ways to imbalance the gameplay. Why should the guy who spent $300 on a gaming mouse have an advantage over me because I didn’t buy one? That seems way more pay to win than the REQ Pack microtransactions people are whining about.
A big part of what makes Halo - and console games in general - inherently more balanced than any computer game is the fact that we’re all working with more or less the same hardware. I already think Scuf controllers and this new Elite controller are console-cancer because they imbalance the gameplay, and keyboard and mouse is even worse. Adding keyboard and mouse support in Halo would kill the competitiveness way more than sprint, armor lock, or ordinance ever could.
If 343i can make sure that keyboard/mouse users are only matched with each other then I say go for it but I don’t want them in my matches.

You could really take this argument all the way back to when 3rd party controllers first came out. When I played Mario Party 4 with my sister and had to use the Mad Catz controller, isn’t it effectively the same idea? I’ve had controllers with turbo buttons, extra buttons for macros, internal fans to prevent sweating (yeah, I know), etc. So different controllers with benefits aren’t really a new thing.
I’m not discrediting you or even arguing with you, just conversing about the topic at hand. Scufs, Elites, and mouse/keyboard do give an edge to their user.

For sure. But I can put up with third party controllers and even this new Elite one, though that comes the closest to -Yoink!- me off (hair trigger locks, seriously?), because at least they’re similar to regular controllers. The problem with keyboard and mouse is the enormous advantage it would provide over controller users in general, even Scuf and Elite users. For one thing, it’s so much easier to aim and shoot my moving and clicking a mouse than by using a thumbstick and a trigger.
Honestly, if I wanted to play my video games with a keyboard and mouse I wouldn’t have bought an Xbox, I would have bought a PC. But I shouldn’t be at such a great disadvantage because I don’t want to play with a keyboard and a mouse on my Xbox.
I’d rather not see it, we shouldn’t be making it easier for people who buy an expensive gaming mouse and keyboard…

I personally want to see the keyboard and mouse support. I’ve been a pc gamer a few years with halo at my roots, and it would make me want to play more. Controllers are clunky to me and poorly designed with a lack of buttons to properly preform. I understand why people are afraid of it, because I promise, I would dominate people with controllers if I had a keyboard and mouse. A possible fix to this, would be absolutely no aim assist on mouse users? Another thing to note about the whole 300 dollar mouse bs… Well its just that… Its bs. I’ve used many mice over the years and can honestly say the difference I so slim, and I’ve only ever spent 60 dollars max on a mouse. If you spend more, you’re buying fancy collars and play on words from the advertiser. 60 dollars is about as much as an xbox controller, am I wrong? And a keyboard, it doesn’t matter what kind you have at all. Again, I’ve been using many kinds throughout the years and the difference is really just responsiveness. So what if I want a more hardcore approach on halo. I should be allowed to use a keyboard and mouse because it is what I am most comfortable with. I do agree however, that something to balance it will need to be done first
We can put a stop to this thread because It’ll never happen. For obvious reasons. Any real gamer knows the benefits of using mouse and keyboard far outweighs that of a controller.
Mouse and keyboard along with controllers in the same environment would totally throw matchmaking off balance. If 343 does decide to do so, they need to keep them separate in matchmaking. Keyboard and mouse would have a total advantage over controller users. I personally would love to see Halo 5 on a mouse and keyboard, but only if it is separated from controller users. I’m not quite sure how this is possible, but I’m just throwing out my opinion.
it will lead to a lot more good snipers but fewer good gunners and drivers…
Mouse and keyboard are best for point and shoot for sure, but sometimes you need constant turning abilities that you cannot do with a mouse.
which is why many pc games allow for controller support.

Not trying to fight your opinion, but I have no issues constantly turning. Its all about your sensitivity and dpi setting. And most pc gamers don’t even notice they are picking up their hand to reset their mouse. Off topic from your quote, separating controller players and mouse players would be great, considering there are enough players. And I’m not entirely convinced pc players would dominate the more I think of it. They would get rid of aim assist, and looking at the mechanics of aim assist, it makes it so much easier. I play Csgo and am DMG, (a decent rank for those who don’t play) and headshots take practice and serious precision. Landing 5 in a row might prove difficult in a fight with someone who shoots near your head, and lands the shot, while you on the other hand, wouldn’t make the shots that are just close, because you have a mouse and no aim assist. I think they should try it, and see what happens. If it fails, that’s fine. I think they should have an option to opt out of playing opponents with mice.
I have arthritis in both thumbs. Been using a mouse since half way through Halo 3. My stats have not changed at all.
Edit: playing with a $45 mouse. You don’t need to spend crazy money for quality.
The ranking system will sort it all out. Regardless of you input preference, skill level, etc. , the ranking system should find a spot where you win ~50% of your games.

I used to love Halo PC. I always drove or gunned on warthog or rocket hog if given the chance.
