Yep, this phenomenon is called pixel-skipping or angle-skipping. It’s present on all games, but some suffer worse than others. having a high dpi and low in game sensitivity reduces the effect, and is theoretically the best way to set up your overall sensitivity.
That being said Halo’s in game sensitivity slider is pretty god-awful. You can only set sensitivity to a single decimal point so it lacks the granularity of other shooters on PC like Counter-strike. So setting a high dpi might prevent you from getting to your perfect sensitivity.
For example let’s say my perfect sensitivity at 3200 DPI is 0.834, I am unable to set it to that currently, I could only do 0.8 which is too slow or 0.9 which is too fast. There are workarounds to this in infinite, but they still aren’t perfect.
Good luck! I played with controller on pc and wasnt doing well at all. I then played on my xbox one with a controller and did very well for the three games I played (even with the 30 fps cap) I then went back to pc with mouse and keyboard and was getting curbed so hard even though I do well in mcc.
Finally found out what was going on when I found out the ingame sensitivity was botching me up. Plays so smooth now and Im not missing stupid shots with my sidekick anymore. Having tons of fun being the top of the leaderboard again.
Good writeup. I also heard about lowering sensitivity in game and increasing dpi but I never have had to do it with other games. In MCC and other pc shooter games I have never had issues, but for some reason infinite wasn’t doing too well. Makes me wonder what the perfect sensitivity settings would be like because even this small change has made a world of difference.
Finding that perfect sensitivity isn’t straight forward, takes lots of experimentation and a game that has really good sensitivity options. some people use the “feel” method where they hop into a game and mess with the slider until they feel comfortable, others copy pro settings and run with that. I personally take a more empirical approach, using CM/360 measurements and a sensitivity calculator to maintain a consistent sensitivity across all the games I play, and only change it up every month or longer so I have plenty of time to get used to the changes.
With all that aim assist, I wouldn’t say you’re getting sloshed because of mnk players. mnk is harder since you dont have aim assist or bullet magnetism
someone that finally agrees with me. Mnk is way harder and has a way higher skill ceiling but then again controller players still outgun mnk coz of aim assist bullet magnetism and a lenient hitbox.
Idk what it is but im not feeling aim assist at all on my One X. My shots are all over the place and usually im pretty decent at getting headshots with precision weapons.
Pixel-skipping is subtle and easily missed if you aren’t looking for it. 3kliksphilip has a fantastic video explaining pixel-skipping called “Pixel jumps - Are you missing pixels?” I would post a link but I don’t think Waypoint allows for hyperlinks.
