Motivation to play after completing battle pass

So after finishing the battle pass, I was hoping that there would be some kind of incentive to keep playing a couple hours a day to beat challenges other than one weekly reward. I know there are also special event rewards, but my suggestion is for all that exp that’s not even accumulating after you finish the battle pass.
How about having a separate shop that you can only access after finishing the battle pass, where you can purchase customization items with exp? New items could be added to both shops regularly, and it would incentivize players to keep playing after completing the battle pass.
Because what I’ve noticed is that a certain level of incentive is built up, but the season is long, and when the battle pass is complete, the incentive level drastically decreases. And knowing that the exp from the challenges isn’t accumulating or being used for anything isn’t an easy thing for a gamer to accept! Especially when you’re competing with other games that will reward them for that same time spent playing. I think the Exp Shop is perfect solution as long as you can only access it after completing the battle pass, and as long as it doesn’t have the same items as the Credit Shop.

Yeah I think longer overarching challenges is what would keep me interested like capture 250 flags and get a special flag emblem or something.

That kind of thing. I’m still playing regularly but realistically it’s the events keeping me the most engaged.

My thoughts are it’s kind of a joke that this game doesn’t have some kind of long-term progression. Even halo 3 had long-term progression and that game came out in 2007 (nearly 15 years ago :person_facepalming:).

Weekly challenge rewards, ranked, or just for fun. Not much else to go with there.

To be fair, halo 3 added playlist ranks several years into its lifespan. It should have been the standard model for every game since, but still.

What do you mean by playlist ranks? Like each playlist had it’s own individual captain/brigadier/general etc.?

Yeah, it was similar to how MCC does it but it was in each individual playlist. Also it was based on wins not xp you gain for performance. Still it was an overwhelming success among the player base

Exactly this. Halo 4 had a pretty good system for this which was how you got a lot of special armor pieces and some emblems etc. I can remember going for nothing but ghost splatters for like a week to get the Verdant visor. Some things were annoying and absurd like going for large numbers of plasma pistol kills or something but still

Right and this business model that utilizes the battle pass, which modern shooters are built on is about incentivizing players with customization rewards to keep them playing as much as possible so that it’s worth it for them to spend actual money on things that they can’t unlock through gameplay.
It only works as long as you keep up that level of motivation!

If a game isn’t worth playing with no progression or external incentives, it’s a bad game, because you’re not motivated by fun

Nah I get what you’re saying! That’s how it worked in the 90’s lol These days I think it’s a little different bc we don’t have our friends coming over to play. It’s not as much about being a social activity. Online gaming is more about how much you can customize your avatar, weapons, vehicles, etc. while playing the game. That’s what makes it more fun. Which is why the battle pass business model works so well, why all of the good online multiplayer shooters are adopting it, and why this could be the best Halo online multiplayer experience yet. But they have to do something about the post-battlepass exp being wasted, or allot of players are going to lose interest which will suck for the people who have invested in making the game, as well as anybody who just likes playing the game. It’s a fact of any modern online game regardless of our views on it friend. So it needs to be fixed, and being able to use that exp to purchase items would be great.
That’s all I’m saying

Another game I play called magic the gathering arena has a great battle pass system. Basically when you max it out it continues leveling you up and each level Past 90 you get basic prizes That don’t make it feel like you’re wasting the challenges etc. it’s a smart system
