I tried to make this into a poll for easy data collection later, but apparently the forum isn’t letting me. Which armor set in Halo 3 did you seek to obtain most? Hyabusa with the helmet and armor complete with kitana sword or the once ‘Bungie employee only’ armor that was Recon. Please choose between these two and describe why below.
Recon definitely. There was no chance to get the Bungie armor.

Recon was the Bungie only armor. Then they made it available to everyone through the completion of the vid master challenges. 
For me it was Recon. Or the Elite armor with the blades on the sides of the helmet. However I loved the fact a week after I got the final vid achievement they gave it to everyone

Well at least we know the “early access then everyone” armor wasn’t exclusive to 343

Actually it wasn’t. Recon was exclusive prior to vidmasters but was not Bungie only armor. I remember speaking to someone who was given it by Bungie. The true Bungie armor is the EOD body variant which gives you a flaming helmet.

Recon… It was a fun ‘road to recon’… Best thing I’ve ever earned in gaming…

No, they gave it out to very few people prior to vidmasters. One example is when they gave it to the first person who uploaded a video on himself getting splattered by a traffic cone. Yeah…
I’m pretty sure we can all agree that Recon was the most sought after armor.

Yes, they did give it to people who did a lot of screenshots, maps, etc. It wasn’t Bungie favorites that gave them the chance to earn recon, but they did earn it from doing those things. I had a few friends I met online who earned it through taking screenshots, maps, etc. It was rare, but people like what you’re saying about the traffic cone, did get it as well. EOB was the only Bungie exclusive armor.
Recon no doubt. Recon took a lot more than look up all skull locations.

Recon
Technically speaking strictly about the 360 version, the rarest armor wasn’t recon, Hayabusa or the katana.
It was the chest piece that allowed your helmet to be on fire, and it was a Bungie employee exclusive only.
So ultimately, that is the rarest and hardest armor to get, since you literally had to work for Bungie to get it.
The only time players had a chance to wear it was on Bungie day. Otherwise, no player has it.
