Most Players Will Buy Infinite Expecting COOP

Halo is a co-op game. It is THE co-op shooter series. Even 5 had 4 player campaign. Without co-op it is not a finished product. It doesn’t matter if they call it a “live service”. That’s just another way to say early access.
The same way a large portion of people bought Halo 5 expecting split-screen; people will buy Infinite ready to play through the story with friends only to find they have to wait at least 3 months. This is completely unacceptable. I certainly won’t be playing it until co-op is there. That was the only way I planned on going through the story. Mega cringe. Delay the game, launch with basic features.
You only get one chance for a first impression, and without co-op you’ve already thrown it away.

Delaying the game would remove any launch hype there is. It’s tough that there won’t be campaign Co-op for a few months, but oh well.

Then it’s a good thing 343i have come out now and clarified that it won’t be there at launch…

The information is available online, I imagine the Xbox store page will also note that the campaign download won’t have co op play listed on its store page either.

Media coverage is also all over this. The news is out there. Anyone with any remote interest in gaming will likely see this news at some point. Ad preferences, cookies, pages you follow etc. If this news trends, which it is, people will hear about it.

If someone didn’t bother to look at that information then they’re the only one who is accountable.

Seriously, how many people will this affect at launch, now compare that to the amount of people that will be playing the game, it’s not that big of a deal, no forge also sucks, but then again that will affect very little people especially with the game being brand new.

Then launch multiplayer first. Overwatch was extremely successful releasing as a PVP game and then releasing PVE content later.

343 has promised co-op many times in the past. Most Halo players are not here reading this site like us.
Also imagine buying this for your kids at Christmas. “Oh boy we can Play Halo together, how pog! Oh nevermind, guess I’ll go back to Modern Warfare”.

Do you have any idea just how little of the player base actually goes on here or even watches the Halo YouTube channel?

No co-op and forge at launch is far worse than a delay. People will exhaust the game’s content immediately and dump it for something else. They are throwing away 6 years of waiting to give us another Cyberpunk disaster. People will be absolutely baffled at how lame this is.

That’s why I mentioned the Xbox store page. It’s there on the product page where you need to download the game.
This information is also widely available for anyone who follows gaming news in any form.

You’re acting as if Co Op doesn’t exist at all and is never coming….they’ve given a timeline on when it’s due to come to the game.
Like I said above, anyone who’s in tune with gaming news will see this information from literally any gaming news outlet.
This whole thing has been blown out of proportion, just like everything does.

Yes it’s not ideal, sure I’d love Co Op at launch too. But guess what? It’s not going to be there so that we can actually get the game this year. Then add Co Op later. It’s hard news to hear for sure, but it’s not a ultimatum for the game.

Seriously dude, delaying because of no co-op and forge is dumb, forge is more of a quality of life thing, and no co-op sucks but delaying it because of that is stupid, their not delaying it because of bugs like cyberpunk.

Lets not use the term most as we dont have the data saying a majority of interested players are gonna play the game co-op. This is obviously not a perfect data point as I could not find the data for OG halos through xbox’s achievement systems.

MCC:

  • complete any co-op level on Normal difficulty - 27.88% - complete any cop-op level on Heroic difficulty - 16.50%There are no achievements for the easiest difficulty but for the sake of agrument we could infer that easy is prob around 38% based on that downward trend the harder it gets. 38% is not most. It also does not take into account whether or not these individuals specifically got the game to play co-op. We could prob infer that number is lower then the 38% given only those with this achievement purchased the game with co-op in mind.

You are 100% right in the case that there will be people who buy or download infinite thinking co-op will be there by default. Thats up to 343 to make sure is up front and center so people are informed.

I also hate the term unacceptable. It is acceptable, you just dont have to like it (I dont but I accept it).

I’ve got an even better set of statistics. This will be the first Halo game without co-op. If it is coming in the first update 3 months after launch then not delaying the game is insane. That’s 3 months of bad impressions vs just launching a finished product.
Unacceptable means I won’t be buying it when I was pretty excited to do so before. This is an embarrassing development. If this game launches with multiplayer as barebones as 5’s then the game will suffer enormously without Forge. The only thing that could alleviate it is having extremely robust custom game options, which I doubt will happen.

I already have no intention of playing it without co-op. That’s a huge reason right there. I was going to buy the game on Steam. I wasn’t even going to 5 dollars my way into it with gamepass. I was super pumped to go through it with my friends. Now I won’t be at all. If I’m not going to buy it over this, that means there is at least a portion of the fanbase that will do the same.
We had 5 Halo games launch feature-complete in the past, all 3 years or less apart from each other. Now everyone is making excuses for 343 after 6 years between releases. “come on, how can you expect the bare minimum from a company with nearly unlimited resources to do what they want?” Stop defending this crap or it will keep happening.

As someone who watched cyberpunk die after 3 months of bad impressions. I genuinely want them to delay atleast 3 months to get coop in.
Cutting features and than adding them back after already having a year delay is insane to me.(especially with them saying campaign was content complete only a few months ago is nuts)

Also I would like to point out the Witcher 3 was delayed a crap load of times and that never “killed-hype”. We got a buggy yet incredible RPG that still has 10s of thousands of daily players on Steam because they made a complete game that was easily worth 90 dollars.

Lmao and then they released cyberpunk.

Easily number 1 anime betrayal of the year.

343 also announced online H5G would not have splitscreen, yet hardly anybody knew when the game released. John Doe who buys the game as a holiday gift for their kids doesn’t keep up with developer updates. While I agree that they’re ultimately at fault themselves, they will still return the game if it lacks features they expect and spread bad word of mouth. And the franchise had already enough bad publicity in the last decade.

End of the day, that’s still not in 343. The information is out there. Like I’ve said too, the games store page & box will likely already say the game doesn’t have co op on it. If people aren’t looking at those things that’s on them.
I’m sure it will happen, but that’s just life. The features will come eventually.

It doesn’t matter who’s at fault for not knowing there’s no co-op. The bottom-line is you just bought a piece of crap game that is missing things it MUST have. Nothing can fix that first experience. I bought Cyberpunk day one, played it for a few hours, and haven’t touched it since. I will never play it again. The extremely boring time I had cannot be undone. That game is dead to me.
No matter who you want to blame this is the worst possible situation for the game. They are selling you half a cheeseburger for the price of a steak dinner, and word of mouth will kill this games chances.
“You try the new Halo?”
“Yeah for 5 minutes and then I found out they didn’t finish the game”
End Result: Overwhelmingly Negative review score on Steam.
