Hello. I recently acquired this game on PC. I come have played a lot of SC and am used to really trying to maximize effectiveness with good micro. Are there any units you can think of that are particularly rewarding to play when micro’d well? Is there any leaders, units, or just general strategies that could be extremely effective with good PC play?
I would say shipmaster is very micro intensive as far as leader powers and hero unit are concerned.
I think extremely good micro against your opponent is key.
Examples
splitting army when enemy attempts suicide grunts.
splitting air when fighting anti air, due to AOE FROM wolverines.
Attacking multiple things at once.
some units to a mini base some to a energy node some to maybe an enemy expansion.
Micro of stun mechanics with leader power combos
like Spartan stun with a Mac blast.
Setting up Kodiaks in strategic places and using them effectively can be very rewarding.
Harrassing the enemies base and preventing them from ever attacking you through constant pressure in this game is key. If they are constantly on the defensive you pretty much win through expansion and out resourcing.

Are those teleporter bubbles permanent? If they are, that seems pretty strong. I am surprised people consider him bad.

They’re not permanent. People don’t necessarily consider him bad, just not great.
As for micro intensive heroes, Atriox’s Chosen comes to mind. He’s one of the fastest infantry units in the game and does a lot of damage, but is rather frail. Effectively a glass cannon. If you can keep him alive and get veterancy on him, he can become a game changing artillery piece.

Guy is demon, especially when he gets Plasma Rounds. He is the reason I split my armies.

Did you say something stupid like Kodiaks
Jokes aside to the threas, Heroes I think is Warlord and Jerome, one will do nothing the other will die easily. Keep Jerome out of enemy range is key and helps his entire army doing so.

Lol, no. I commented on the wrong thread by accident.

As i main shipy i can tell you that right now due to the inbalance in the game his early game is quite weak.
But if you make it out of it you can utilize his abilities to harass and wreak havoc over your enemy, wherever he is or you are.
Shipmaster, Arbiter, Anders (Her sentinels have stun, leader control and lot of abilities that’ll force you to think).
These three probably benefit the most from micro.
As far as micro and having fun when comes to a leader I’d say shippy is the best. You can can easily retake nodes with his perma stealth hero, go sit at the back of an enemy base and open up his teleport to bring your army in for a base wipe.
For people you love to cap a nodes with their entire army displace them Into to your base with your shields, turrets and army.
Something else I love doing to deal with super units for scarabs displace all their healers and shrouds away then roll in and wipe it out. For condors since you can displace a condor displace it right into your AA and watch it burn.
Just remember Shippy is GOD on the battle field as long as you can get past the initial rush and early game mid to late game he is KING.
Shipmaster probably the most rewarding for good micro

If he is played well, can he compete with the top tiers? (Forge, Arby, etc)

In a match up where both players are of equal skill he will lose against these two and usually anders and isabel too. The current imbalance of arbiter and T2 rushes of UNSC is hard to overcome as him since he has no army wipe ability or superior economy. Doesnt mean you cant win its just very hard - i had a game myself where i made an fairly capable forge my -Yoink- as shipy.
Is it just me or does the Arbiter require alot of good macro?

The unit itself? Isn’t he melee? If it is, I would assume not since good microing usually revolves around kiting

Jerome, Chosen, and Forge only good kiting heroes but Arby has one of the best burst damage second to Decimus Drop along with a temporary speed boost that matches Honor Guard so he is equally great for hit and run with Y ability.

Sorry, i was referring to his leader powers. Good micro with both stasis and enforcers can be a game changing.
I think all leaders require good micro to be on the next level of super, which is supra.
