Ok, this may have been discussed before but I really want to know what weapons the community in Halo 4 think are the most inconsistent to use and why.
For me it’s the Forerunner weapons, for being a Tier 1 civilization their weapons are horrible and constantly anger me with their inconsistency. The light rifle should be better than the DMR yet it’s not, in fact it really can’t even hold a candle to the DMR. The same goes for the suppressor, it’s nowhere near as good or consistent as the assault rifle. And don’t get me started on the scatter shot, which is the most inconsistent weapon every created… It can pump four shots into someone from close range and barely lower their shields yet sometimes it immediantly can kill an enemy from a wide variety of distance. The pulse grenade is horrible… Just walk away from it and look you’re fine it would be so much better if it affected a much bigger range… But one thing is for sure the Boltshot is way too OP. The Incineration cannon is nice and new, but far to many times have I shot directly at someone and they’ve come away un-scathed… The Rocket launcher never has these problems! Then theres the Sticky detonator, the gun that won’t kill your enemies even when they’re standing on it and yet they can kill you with it from once again any distance! Ugh I’ve been nothing but frusterated by these weapons playing action sack lately.
I have to agree with you about Forerunner weapons being the most inconsistent…
However, remember this; gameplay over canon.
Weapons are not the same or deal the same damage as they actually do in the real Halo Universe. If weapons dealt “canon” amount of damage, the Promethean weapons would probably be SERIOUSLY OP and Halo wouldn’t favor the precision weapons so/as much anymore. And since War Games is supposed to be a training simulation, the people behind the War Games on the INFINITY can tune the weapons and everything else to how they want.

I could see that, although I still don’t see why the Forerunner weapons wouldn’t be more consistent or at least as consistent as the UNSC weapons in Halo 4… Them being worse than the UNSC weapons blows my mind, at least they should be on par with one another.

Perhaps 343i made it that way because the fans liked the UNSC weapons more than the others?
Story-wise, perhaps the UNSC Infinity tuned the weapons like this so that more people would utilize the weapons from their own personal armory, as they are likely to be using them most over Covenant and Promethean weapons.
The sticky detonator is a UNSC weapon…
For me, I say that the UNSC and Forerunner weapons are both equally inconsistent. I have actually found that most of the weapons are inconsistent a lot in this game. That’s one reason why I quit playing.
> The sticky detonator is a UNSC weapon…
I know, but it’s just as inconsistent so I mentioned it too.
Scattershot, Concussion Rifle and the Fuel Rod Gun.
i have only really used the suppressor in campaign. in mm it seems like there are times it can really tear me up. my initial reaction was that it is inconsistent like the scattershot. but i did have a match where i had several 1v1 with a guy using the suppressor and me using the ar. every time we started a fight and he was close, then i died quickly.
the binary rifle seems very consistent. shoots straight and always kills in one shot.
i think the incineration canon is consistent as well, but just trickier to use then the unsc and covenant counterparts. some people just get lucky and avoid those bouncing balls. but if your shot is close it doesnt matter. sometimes i shoot right when i see someone, like i would with a rocket or fuel rod knowing the projectile travels fast enough that the splash damage will get them.but the incineration canon travels much slower. if i hesitate a tiny bit so i know which direction they are moving i have much better success. it is a bit tricky for me because i want to treat all three weapons similar, but they each have tiny nuances and the incineration cannon being a new addition and not something ive been using for 10 years.
i never considered the boltshot OP. ive never played a team that relied heavily on the boltshot and lost. teams that use it heavily just dont seem to win. i have no clue on its consistency.
> Scattershot, Concussion Rifle and the Fuel Rod Gun.
I’ve never thought the Concussion Rifle or Fuel Rod were inconsistent. The Fuel Rod is just a weaker Rocket Launcher. A lot of people complain about the Concussion Rifle being too hard to get kills with, but I always get two or three every time I get one.
I will agree the Scattershot is inconsistent. Sometimes it’ll take two or three shots at close range to kill, and sometimes one shot at medium range will get a kill.
Covenant Ghost (ramming) and Scattershot. I’ve seen people get hit dead on by a Ghost and make the Ghost flip, while they only take like half a shields worth damage. Yet other cases I’ve seen a Ghost seemingly scrape someone with full shield and they die. Vehicle itself is being used as a weapon. Scattershot…shoot them at point blank with excellent connection…yet they don’t die, shoot them at medium range they die. Everything else seems pretty consistent.
I find it depends on the type of weapon:
The least consistent Rifle is hands down the Carbine. That thing will kill anywhere between 8 shots, and your entire 18 shot clip. That final headshot is totally illusive.
The least consistent Automatic is definitely the Suppressor. Even up close it struggles a bad random facrot.
The least consistent Sidearm is the Magnum. Sometimes it feels like the head hitbox isn’t even there.
The least consistent grenade is the Pulse nade. It sometimes pops shields instantly, sometimes it does almost nothing.
The least consistent CQC Power Weapon is probably a tie between the Gravity Hammer and the Scattershot.
The least consistent heavy Anti-Vehicle weapon is the Incineration Cannon for sure. Sometimes the Laser can be pretty bad sometimes though.
The least consistent Sniper is probably the Sniper Rifle. Though I think that’s more a skill thing than anything.
The Needler, and all 3 of the smaller explosive weapons are extremely inconsistent as well, the Concussion Rifle, Sticky Detonator, and Railgun.
