“Most people actually play campaign and don’t play competitive. It’s because the competitive landscape is really intimidating for people. So they prefer to play at their own pace”- Frank O’Connor
What are your thoughts on this statement? In what ways do you think this is influencing Halo 4?
I think its a pretty fair assessment, I know I was like that for a while. Even then I enjoy the campaign more than LIVE play, so I don’t get on as much.
Why did you purposely leave out the Spartan OPs bit? Curious OP, that’s what expands on the quote.
It’s true though; many will play the single player Campaign and are done with the game (maybe trying the MP out a little bit). I was a bit surprised to hear that most don’t touch the MP.
Though if you are cynical/paranoid (not me) you can say Frankie is just saying that to increase Halo 4 sales and it’s lie etc.
I remember reading that. It really is silly, and I don’t know how true it actually is. Most people I know are fairly apathetic about story. Why does he think Halo shifted so far away from campaign in recent years? It’s because Bungie understood for a game to have longevity it needed a solid, online multiplayer. People don’t buy CoD to play campaign.
Another point to make is that not everybody has XBL. All people with the game can play Campaign, but not all can play Multiplayer (sans local custom games).

Its not like I took it out of context and made it seem like something false, I just told you what I had read.
Anyone who thinks Frank lied about it needs to grow up.

> If you think that Halo has been selling millions of copies because of campaign you’re missing the big picture. Multiplayer sells games.
Funny how you say that when Frank O’Connor (a 343i employee) says otherwise.
Millions of people buy Halo games, yet most of those millions of people are too intimitated by the MM “landscape”. You might buy Halo for MM, but most do not.

Go back and read my post in his last thread. I said he could remake the thread provided it was discussion inducing rather than a random statement dropped in a post.

That’s because COD has a horrible campaign. Also, Skyrim didn’t need Multiplayer for longevity.

Honestly I really enjoyed most of the CoD campaigns, and I hope TES games NEVER get online multiplayer.
People really shouldn’t feel intimidated by this game, be them competitive or casual. I feel like many of the changes made to the multiplayer were made specifically to address this problem. For instance, being able to pick your utility weapon.

Skyrim is hardly an argument. The game hasn’t been out for six months yet, and is finishing below two games that were released nearly 2-3 years ago.
Six months is far from the longevity a game needs.
Halo hasn’t exactly had stellar campaigns of late itself, with 3, ODST, and Reach all having six hour campaigns with little plot development, exciting moments, or intrigue.
