I have been playing halo for nearly 10 years and this is the most enjoyable halo experience. The game is truly a masterpiece and is certainly the best Halo game ever made. So much so that when I get upset while playing halo 4, I know instantly that I’m only upset because I SUCK not because the game is flawed.
Congratulations 343i, you have brought Halo to a new era.
I have “only” played halo for about 5 years, and i’ve played all the games, and been a fan of the multiplayer experience since the 3rd game, and i have to agree. This game, truly is a masterpiece!
For me, I don’t know about best Halo title, but it’s of a higher calibre than Reach in most departments and has quality comparable to that of the original trilogies installments. The technology is incredible, the sound is punchy, the Campaign is one level short of being the perfect length I’d say, but what’s there is fantastic. Gorgeous Campaign level design and Spartan Ops has a lot of potential.
Some Multiplayer balance issues are keeping it from being a contender for my best Halo.
Overall, the game is very well made, the aesthetics combined with the lighting is absolutely incredible.
I’m enjoying the game myself too, had my first War Games matches today and had a blast. Infinity Slayer so far, starting off basic. Also tried co-op Spartan Ops which is a huge change from running them solo. Holy crap it’s so much easier with people watching your back.
Last night was my first time playing, and so far, I’d agree. It brought me back to the H2 days. I still have fonder memories of H2, but I’d say the games overall are about even for me. I had fun, it felt competitive, and weapons are well balanced. I feel like the better player will consistently win gun fights, which is how it should be. I have high hopes for the rankings next year. It will definitely add another layer of replayability for me.
> …that when I get upset while playing halo 4, I know instantly that I’m only upset because I SUCK not because the game is flawed…
This is more important than most people know. Reach was infinitely frustrating because you’d undeservedly lose battles on a regular basis.
When I lose because I suck, I don’t have a terrible time.
i agree i am a halo vet and i have been playing halo since the beginning and i remember those yelling matches lol having halo CE LAN parties those were some great days of halo and now i am having that same feeling with this one
truly impressed cant wait for more playlists and new map packs and whatever else they add to halo 4
cant wait to get of work today and play multiplayer and start campaign also
I’m surprised that I didn’t encounter any major glitches during the campaign though I have to disagree that the campaign is going in the right direction.
I think it’s lukewarm. On one hand, we have the option to fight without using the Mech and 343 have generously restored our autoaim on pissed off allies (like in CE and Halo 2, which makes the beginning of Shutdown really fun since you can betray your allies and actually put up a fight against them instead of hiding and headshoting as in Crow’s Nest). Weapons are pleasant to use and it’s not as terribly annoying being shot while scoped in. Oh and Chief’s strafe looks like it’s the best yet.
On the other hand, there are major disappointments, like:
-half of the objectives on Reclaimer don’t even have to be done. You can just stand there in the Mammoth and the game will have proclaimed it completed. There are like only 2 instances where you really have to leave the safety of the Mammoth
-the levels taking place near the end prominently feature button pushing
-can’t save doomed allies or enemies from scripted death. I loved doing that on Metropolis and welcomed the fact that the enemy marines on Sacred Icon weren’t destined to be slaughtered like the marines on Floodgate
-game instantly kills you i.e. slagging during a vehicle run, killing civilians instead of making it more interesting (the timer in The Maw run was excellent, the invincible marines and Cortana comment about rampant cyborg was humorous and convincing)
-can’t kill important NPCs or scripted NPCs. It’s even worse in Halo 4 since you can’t even push them. Oh and Lasky disappears sometime after the Mammoth departs, why is that? :s
-invisible barriers. I swear, Infinity and Reclaimer have to be the most linear levels in this game
-the enemies are damage sponges on Legendary and idiots on Normal. Or vice versa. Either way really. They don’t change at all, they just get more cheaper
-no boss battles. I could have sworn there was a tweet about a boss battle on the second level. It is coincidental that the level just happens to have a cutscene tease. And the Didact was very disappointing, only 2 visible appearances, the rest dialogue. The Prophet of Truth made multiple appearances which is why he worked quite well. The Didact has been overhyped
So I’d say Halo 4 is a good start but it needs to drop some of this bs prominent in the popular fps games and some of this bs that Bungie introduced. Halo 4 has only progressed 1/4 of the way IMO. Halo needs to be less linear. That’s gonna hold it back. If they want a cinematic approach, it should be done right (and I do think they did it very well for most of the campaign).
