I don’t mind having paid content in the store. But paying 1/5th the price of a AAA game for a color or a piece of armor or two is pretty insane. If the prices for items were actually reasonable I probably would have already thrown at least $50 at this game just to support it, but with the massive overpricing 343i is only going to cripple the population and leave us with a game that barely anyone plays. And I refuse to support that.
343i if you want my (and many other peoples money) rethink your pricing and go with something that will ACTUALLY sustain the game for years to come. This just looks like a desperate cash grab, as if you don’t even care about supporting the game in the future and just want to grab every last cent you possibly can before you move onto another project.
The most expensive game ever but it is free to play lol. I hate 343… Why should anyone pay 100 dollars for little amount of cosmetics. Spending $100 i feel like i should have enough credits to buy every yointing thing I see and want in this multiplayer
I do agree acting like the game is awful because of cosmetics is kinda overkill (though I don;t mind the outcry because maybe it’ll inspire 343 to actually do something about it lol).
I will say though, the amount of free and awesome content poured into MCC over the last few years, and then the dismal amount of free stuff available in Infinite, with a much worse customization system overall, is pretty disappointing. Doesn’t make the game bad, and I’ll still paly it, but it does make me not wanna buy any of these battle passes or anything.
None of this matters as long as people are actually BUYING these things. They won’t make changes as long as gullible people are throwing away money on the shop items
I’ve looked at this “free” event and it’s shockingly disappointing. Not only the new Fiesta challenges overwrite the regular Battle Pass challenges, they all share the same three active slots now (this concept makes no sense in the first place), but the “free” event actually has several purchase-only customization items in the store, not available by playing the game. This is the worst take on the free-to-play business model I’ve ever seen in my life. The designers clearly have absolutely no clue how it should be done.
Everything in this multiplayer is geared towards trying to force people into paying a lot of money. Even the Battle Pass is completely worthless without purchasing the Premium version, as it offers barely anything for free on its 100 levels. Even if you play all day and grind, if you don’t pay (and it costs a lot) you won’t be able to customize your Spartan.
This new event is no different. You can get a free armor core for sure, but only to then purchase its extensions and other pieces separately in the store. It would have been much more honest to put the whole bundle in the store, and not trying to disguise it as a “free event”.
What’s also disappointing is that the mainstream media will probably praise the game highly for its gameplay, generously disregarding the fact that it’s a content-incomplete, bare-bones and downright predatory design straight out of some kind of development hell. Really, this is what 343 could come up with after six years? It is overwhelmingly disappointing.
Do you guys not remember that multiplayer used to be supported by a subscription fee? The F2P system is much better, even with some kinks to work out. I never want to pay a subscription for multiplayer again.
When the company that is currently under fire for so much misconduct is still considered more player first than 343’s toxicity. That’s when they should realize there is a big big problem.
Have you ever heard of the fashion industry? It sells products at the price consumers will pay for it. Sometimes hundreds of dollars for a tshirt with an ugly logo on it.
Have you seen literally any other f2p game? Selling a skin for $20 or more is completely normal. I would personally never pay that much on a digital skin but apparently the f2p market has spoken and others do (that or it is just an anchoring technique).
Given that these items are completely in the realm of optional, and there are less expensive alternatives, I find this point to have the least weight.
If you think it’s problematic that challenges negatively impact population wide playing patterns, then I buy that. But this? This is I don’t think has anything to stand on. Obviously cheaper is better but that’s true for all life.
I’m not defending it. Its completely overpriced. But as an older gamer I know games on 8 and 16 bit systems had a team of maybe 20 tops and sold for $50. 30 years later people wont pay more than $60 up front for a game and these games require 100s of staff to create and the advertising alone cost millions. This model is here to stay and unfortunately people are going to have to accept that they cant have everything a game has to offer. There is always gonna be that car, armor or whatever that is infinitely out of reach.
You are able to download and play Infinite on your Xbox without paying for online? It won’t let me, it keeps sending me to pay. Subscription for internet access is still a thing on consoles.
If I recall correctly, the only involvement of money related to the event itself is that tiers are unlocked by completing challenges and undesired challenges can be swapped out using “Challenge Swaps”. As most of us may already know, challenge swaps can be purchased for real world money in the store. However, this relation to real world money is indirect and involves multiple steps.
You arent advocating change or any of your bullcrap justification. 343 has heard the complaints months ago and has been working on a new system to be integrated post launch. Honestly -Yoink!- customization. Just enjoy the gameplay. And dont go on every forum being an entitled baby to 343 whining about how if you want the paid cosmetics you have to pay money.
So they get to get paid while working on the system that’s paying them. Instead of maybe, idk, not opening shop until changing it? Sounds pretty convenient to me.
Then, the system used in Halo 3 and Halo 4 should be the most optimal very nearly every single armor piece was locked behind completing a specific task like reaching a given rank or completing a commendation.
That’s interesting, because you’re supposed to have access to the multiplayer gameplay without a Gold subscription.

Previously, the server costs and software support for Live games was paid for by Xbox Live Gold subscriptions. But since Halo Infinite has a different monetization system, Microsoft wanted to make it available to as many people as possible, and removing the Gold subscription requirement brings in more players.
Maybe it’s because the current release is still technically a beta? Hopefully the full release on December 8th will see the Gold requirement removed.
Either way, the game is available on Steam. And the Xbox Live Gold subscription requirement for multiplayer on Xbox was the key motivator for getting me to finally leave the platform. I was an Xbox exclusive fanboy for a lot of years, but Gold is just so much of a hassle.
