Two people have a disagreement. A third person walks up and engages the second person about a completely unrelated topic. Second person says “That’s not what we’re talking about.” Third person continues to talk about unrelated topic. Second person says “I have no interest in talking to you about that.” Third person says “THEN DONT TALK ABOUT IT.”
Again, the “first” person never directly said anything about the event when they made their joke about cosmetic costing money
There’s a lot of talk about derailing the conversation which is derailing the conversation, so lets drop it
They definitely should remove one of the XP grants that sit in the middle (7, 12, 17, 22,) and have some of the store items in there. Would have made it feel better about doing the “event”. Still not perfect by any means but better.
I disagree that it’s the worst MP ever. I do agree that it’s an absolutely -Yoink!- progression system and the challenges are awful and detrimental to the match.
It’s as if they’re making an effort to be as blatantly greedy as possible. Like they’re desperate to show us how ruthless they’re gonna be.
“You get nothing for free peasant! Everything costs the price of a new game by itself!”
For the first event, it really is strange…
I see there are some who are not understanding the source of the frustration and disappointment here. I can’t speak for others but, for me, here’s the issue. What was advertised so heavily about customization and what we are experiencing presently doesn’t seem to agree. Prior to release, the conversation sounded as if the massive customization options were going to be part of the game and, naturally, released over time (likely via a Battle Pass since that’s what everyone is doing now). We were offered a free multiplayer even though the full game costs full price and an overwhelming percentage would’ve played it free through Game Pass anyway. Then, since the multiplayer is free, everything got locked up behind a huge paywall. The Battle Pass costs about $10 and is wildly underwhelming (not to mention painful to progress through). There’s absolutely no premium currency that can be earned which is the only way such a large paywall would make sense. Other games have expensive shops but typically offer some version of a means to earn premium currency (Bright Dust in Destiny or the Battle Pass in COD for examples) since the items can be pricey yet desirable. Now that the event is here, much of what was advertised prior to release we are now seeing is locked behind a separate purchase in the store at absolutely staggering prices and no way to earn them. Now, I’m not the type to feel as if I am entitled to something for free. I don’t have a problem with a company trying to remain profitable. What I have a problem with is underhanded tactics like what’s happened here. The language 343 used prior to release suggested absolutely nothing about high paywalls and a very limited customization system. In fact, the language they used sounded very inclusive, player friendly, and they made the customization system sound like it was going to be the most in depth and expansive we’ve ever seen. Yet armor pieces are locked to cores, we have to use shaders instead of customizing our armor colors as desired, and very very little can be earned. These are my frustrations. I’m not entitled to everything in the store to be free or to never have to spend a cent (even though I do pay for the Game Pass Ultimate). But I expect more transparency and am tremendously disappointed with the cash grab design.
You didn’t have to purchase any armour in previous Halo games. Now you do.
You can’t at all see how that might annoy players?
Humans are individualistic creatures, especially in the modern world.
It might not matter to you, but it does to a hell of a lot of others.
Why not support your fellow players and make the game better for everyone? Rather than mock us because 343 decided to take away a part of the game that’s been in for FREE since Halo 3.
You’ve just summed up everyone complaints. My biggest issue is the fact we don’t even get the armour which was advertised for this event, instead we get imo, a drastically worse looking one, and I assume this is going to be all event’s going forward
Compared to H4/H5? Absolutely not especially for a beta.
I dunno what “doesn’t works” on your end, but short of some minor bugs, and some questionable choices for ranked, the game works pretty well.
The monetization is a bit overkill considering the battlepass grants you 17x more cosmetic choices and 15x more boosts/swaps for $10 than you can get for $5-$20 in the store.
@Porrage
I’m fine with MTX being part of the game, it’s F2P, it comes with the terrritory. There’s a few things that are not OK.
$23 AUD for a single armour attachment being one of them. Do I need to buy it? No. But just because I don’t need to buy it doesn’t make it ok to sell it at that price. The issue is the pricing, not that it’s being sold. This isn’t jusst limited to the event though.
Marketing it as a free event and having 5 armour customizations + the Yoroi-core, 3 weapon coatings (that’s a whole different issue altogether), 4 of the same emblem at different tiers and 1 background… which leaves us with 16 tiers of challange swaps and XP grants. Battlepass is similar except with 75 free tiers of challange swaps… fun.
so between 130 free tiers of battle/event pass we have 1 armour core and 14 free armour pieces. Not looking good for their statement that a “lot of armour would be unlocked through playing the game and only playing the game”… 343’s words, not mine.
The final issue is, if you are going to go around promoting your free event using time gated paid content, because they showed store customization that isn’t available yet, there’s going to be backlash. There were 16 other tiers, 19 if they consolidate all of the same emblem into a single tier instead of spread over 4, that they could have put this stuff into in the event pass, but they chose to promote and monetize it instead.
This was 343’s chance to take a step back, acknowledge an issue that a vast majority of the player base has and offer an improvement. Remove the challagne swaps and XP grants, provide more free armour options in the event pass and cheaper bundle prices. It’s literally what people would like in the regular battle pass, you don’t need to remove all 75 challange swap, maybe swap out 30 of them for free armour pieces so the F2P people can freel rewarded for being F2P.
But instead we are left with more of the same sour taste.
oh no!!! halo infinite is like every other free to play game ever! oh the horrors!
The game is good and fun to play, I agree.
The background is not. Customisation, battlepass, xp system… maybe those things will change over time.
Did anyone ask for the game to be free?
I don’t think so.
I’d happily pay full pri…Oh wait, the campaign is still full price even without multiplayer?
This game is not free to play.
Agreed in that regard.
Just pointed out for $10 you get 17x more cosmetics and 15x more swaps/boosts than you get for $20/$2 respectively. The financial model is more than a little screwy.
So the campaign is 70€ (the price in France), the multiplayer is free but everyrhing inside is between 10 - 20€. The average price of the complete game is like, 90€ with 20€ per armor a player likes ?! 6 years of developpement for this.
Thanks for the players who are here since 2001 and welcome the new F2P /battlepass generation.
It’s almost like people see more value in something lower cost and are happy to spend money on it. Makes you wonder how many more people they could sell an item to if it were at a lower cost. 343 could probably make the same amount if not more by selling a higher quantity at a lower price.
Oh shiet, it’s marketing 101
@Winryy
Offtopic, that requires it’s own thread. While I agree, please dont discuss further here. Thanks
$23 AUD for a single armour attachment being one of them.
Mmm, this point I honestly don’t care about all that much. It’s too pricey for my blood, but if the customers as a whole are willing to spend that much, it’s their prerogative.
so between 130 free tiers of battle/event pass we have 1 armour core and 14 free armour pieces. Not looking good for their statement that a “lot of armour would be unlocked through playing the game and only playing the game”
I made a thread complaining about this and pretty much agree. This first battle pass is a failure imo. Hopefully they decide to beef them up more for the second one.
The final issue is, if you are going to go around promoting your free event using time gated paid content, because they showed store customization that isn’t available yet, there’s going to be backlash
Now THIS is actually scummy. When they did the promotional video/pics/tweets and I saw the armor with the word “Free” all over the place, I got stoked. I didn’t notice a section of the video that said “New Premium Cosmetics,” so my expectations were way higher than reality. Yeah I’ll agree, this is actually trash.
I’m not even gonna lie, if they dropped the price to a flat $5 a pack, I’d most likely pick everything up. But at $20 for “white”, I’m gonna pass. I dropped about $400 on CSGO (albeit that was lootcrates and I made almost triple on what I put into it, would personally love to see some item sale mechanic too), I wouldn’t have a problem dropping $200 on this game especially if it’s going to be a 10 year experience.
Its expected that there will be stuff in the shop to be purchsed, though the bundle is expensive as heck and the tenrai pass is time gated to hell for a month
