If Halo has 275,001 players that’s still considered more players than Destiny. Without an actually figure, it’s not much to go by.
Well sure. But it’s the closest thing we’ve had to a number outside of Steam. And if we add that to the Steam number, it looks better than I had thought.
Seems like he’s mentioning aggregate daily players, since Destiny 2 was around 60k peak concurrent players on Steam: https://steamcharts.com/app/1085660
Infinite’s peak on the same day on Steam was 25k: https://steamcharts.com/app/1240440
Given that we know Steam probably doesn’t represent more than about 30% of the player base, it’s entirely possible it has a comparable or slightly larger player base on Xbox than Destiny 2. Don’t know what metric(s) the Xbox most played list uses to rank games. I also don’t know if the relationship between peak concurrent and daily aggregate players is the same between Destiny 2 and Halo Infinite.
But cant you see the game itself is dying? This forum is flooded with negative things about the game. Most people that dont love Halo already dropped the game. The game came out incomplete with tons of bugs. In a few months this game will be right next to Battlefield 2042.
The player base is dropping and it continues to drop. This is the truth whether people want to admit it or not. If the game sits in this condition for another month or 2, it’s going to be dead. Expect to be matched with the same players over and over again because there’s only going to be a couple thousand globally playing at a time at this rate.
Yes, all of those games up to Infinite only have 275,001.
Now for real: Why does nearly everyone think, that the placement in the Category “Most Played” games on the XBox-Website show the real position regarding the player numbers? Insofar there are many problems:
In the category “Top free Games” there are many other very popular games shown before Halo Infinite.
Microsoft never releases the exact player numbers on their website. Why should they give a hint about the real popularity of a game by putting it in a pre-defined order? Of course “Fortnite” and “Warzone” are Top-Tier because of their enormous playerbase and financial strength, but that does not mean, that Microsoft has to show every game in a specific order.
Microsoft would never allow to show, that Halo Infinites playerbase is competely shrunk. So they can easily put it on the 5th place if they want to and make the impression, Halo Infinite on XBox is still more popular than other games.
Activision/Blizzard has been bought by Microsoft, Destiny (Bungie) has been bought by Sony. Of course Microsoft wants to show, that their own products are better than the games of competitors. So they can easily influence specific orders.
So all in all: I think, the steam numbers are pretty accurate (at least to show an overall trend).
If you believe, that the steam numbers are not meaningful, please dont be so naive and give any credits to Microsofts influenced positionings without having the real numbers of active players…
yeah i doubt half a million people play infinite all at the same time at this point
I was using that figure as an example that even if it’s only 1 player more, it’s still more. Let’s say Halo has twice as many players on Xbox, that makes it 550,000. Still a far number away from 20 million they boast have played.
20 million have played, they didn’t say they continue to play. And just because 550k people played it in a day doesn’t mean that’s all who play, not everyone plays every single day. I’d say the game holds at least 5 million people who still play it, a little more if you include those who hop on for events every now and then. The drop off is normal for games, especially f2p
Meh, concurrent players (at any given time) or average concurrent players is really the only numbers I care about. Daily unique logins really don’t hold much weight for me.
I know this, but there are people out there that believe 20 million are playing.
Not to play devils advocate, while some of the points (if not most) are justified, forums always seem to be chalk full of negativity, like, destiny forums are a toxic cesspit most of the time, and that game is still going on strong.
After I maxxed out my cyber event pass I haven’t been… Wanting to play. Hit 86 in the battle pass but I’m gettin’ real tired of 4v4s, at least how the state they’re in now.
You’re right we have no way to verify the numbers. But then why did they let halo 5 and mcc drop down so much so early in the past as well?
I’d say it’s accurate because it’s been consistent over the last 5+ years. GTA, f2p games, fps games, sports games. Thats always the majority of the top 25, at least for the en-us region store. Could have lied since day one of course.
Because MCC und H5 were full priced games, that most of the players already paid for. A healthy playerbase is from financial perspective much more important in a F2P game than in a full-priced game. If on XBox the player numbers would become less and less, more players would rather leave a “dying” game than keep playing a “healthy” game.
Even if most positions were accurate, that wouldnt mean, that Halos position cannot be influenced. Halo Infinite is still Microsofts flagship game with 500.000.000 $ production cost. As free 2 play game, they desperately need a healthy playerbase that buys store items…
Fair point on mcc and h5 I guess. It is a different scenario.
I agree but have to tried game chat in ranked? Its just as bad on the actual game
Haha most people who really DO love Halo have dropped the game as well. If the numbers were all that great, I’m sure microsoft would share them.
