More personality in the marines :D

I know there is some personality in the marines but I want more.

It would be cool if you see more interaction between them, were one solider would begin to panic in a fire fight and might try to flee so another one would grab him and punch then tell him to get his act together. Another cool thing would be if one gets shot and is down but not out for the count so another marine would lift him up and carry him through the rest of the level or a medic could treat him and get him back into shape.

Even something small e.g when you gave a marine a plasma pistol and hear him say “you got to be kidding me” then hear a fellow marine say “don’t worry I got you man” then they switch weapons, would make the campaign experience that little bit more nicer

Edit:

I never really expected to get 10 thanks, so thanks

I love this idea, a more dynamic AI that interacts with each other would be great. It would make them feel as if they were actually human.

Off-topic: Btw Jack, why do you end all your thread titles with “:D”?

I dunno what you are talking about…

I like to have “:D” in the title to try and promote a positive attitude

This is a great idea!

I would love to see the marines look after and react to each other and act like a real band of brothers.

Yeah, but ending everything in “:D” or “:)” can get on people’s nerves, and therefore stop them from taking you as seriously…

Anyway, I must say that I really love this idea! It would add some much needed personality to Halo’s AI, and it could make enemy engagements much more interesting too. For Prometheans, you could have a new unit or Watcher variant that’s dedicated to teleporting away and healing other damaged guys. It would add a new dimension to the combat. With the highly superior processing power of the Xbox One over the 360, it might be possible to do.

At some point I want to see them sat around a campfire passing cigarettes around and grumbling or hurling banter at one another. It would be like a scene from Band of Brothers or Saving Private Ryan.

Seeing an Elite berate it’s subordinates for being cowardly would also be interesting.

I would also like to add that it would be cool to see more moments like in halo 4 where a marine shoved a grenade into a Promethean’s face and went out with a bang. But in a less scripted way and have it more naturally, moments where a marine would tackle a grunt and execute the poor guy or a brute can go grab a marine and do what bane did to batman.

Great idea. I would love this.

This is a very attractive idea, especially if we get theater mode for campaign. There would be so many more golden moments to capture with new marine actions. I always loved taking screenshots of marines on Reach, so being able to have this extra ability would make them even more unique.

I think you’re onto something. I really hope they add something in like this.

Yeah stuff like that would be cool. Seeing a marine get wounded and his closest buddy runs over and pulls him into cover. I know this is a completely different game I’m going to reference, but I’ve actually seen the police in GTA V do that while I was in the middle of a shoot out. This was just regular gameplay too, not a scripted part of a mission or anything.

But seeing this kind of interaction between npc’s is great when you witness it, it always gets me more immersed within the game. So I’d definitely like to see them show more awareness of their surroundings rather than just see them switch between “combat mode” and “standing idle mode”.

Marines and ODST need more immersion…

Marines/ODST

  1. Squad Orientated Movement… in other words, they stick together, lean off each other for support and perform tactics like a squad.

  2. Squad Communication… in other words, when the marine or ODST squad are in a Firefight, they would use terms like flank right, flank left, suppressive fire, grenade out etc. and act on it; while when out of combat… moving or standing around (Infinity) they socialize, interact and joke around with their fellow squad members… sometimes there could be moments of panic or with the enemies corpses… to which another squad member would act accordingly depending on the situation.

  3. Smart-Interaction With Surroundings… in other words, Marines and ODST after firefights or in armories, could see a weapon or vehicle that is better than their current one. They would op to trade it for theirs… some comical humor could be squabbling within the squad for the weapon… fighting over it. Others could be trading weapons between squad members and communicating… “Here takes this sniper and cover us from that ridge.” The other thing could be environmental interaction like repairing vehicles and showing other marines techniques… like how to bash or quick drawing a weapon…

Lets not forget about the SIVs. The SIV AI should have different personalities to the marines like having an SIV die in front of a Marine can be the equivalent of a Grunt seeing his Elite commander die though maybe a tad less dramatic or haveing SIVs around makes Marines more confident and the SIVs can be a lot less likely to flee or freak out.

And what would be really nice is if they could do what they did in the Lone wolf mission in Reach and have SIVs use randomly generated armor. So that you’ll never see the same SIV twice and they’ll look a lot more like the SIVs that we’re supposed to be. How cool would be if one day by complete luck you came across your Spartan that happened to be the one that got randomly generated or maybe a Spartan that looks just like one of your friends?

And for gods sake can I have an option to tell them to just stay here, be safe, I can handle this by myself, don’t put yourself at risk over nothing. That would end a lot of heart breaking moments.

I think the main reason that it doesn’t get noticed is because they’re not all around us in the way that they were in Halo 1-3, and even in halo 3 it’s like their presence seemed more and more inconsequential. On top of that, having the aliens speak their own language made the smack talk aspect between the AI dial down alot, kinda making IWHBYD null and void. I turn it on but never really notice it because I never hear the marines spouting off.

I heard someone mention about squad communication, so they could make manoeuvres and successfully dodge fire and retreat, well I have a small idea.

The Sargent would be the one giving the orders. If he died the orders go to the corporal. (Or next in command) So, it would add like a ranking system. And the highest in command gets covering fire aswell.

Off topic: I like the Halo: CE marines the best, but Halo 3’s marines are the smartest.

There’s a lot of this that goes on in previous games. Try the IWHBYD skull. Halo 3 and Reach are full of little side things going on. Since you know what happens now, take some time to explore a bit before finishing a level.

In CE you will notice dead Covenant in piles. Bungie had a creature designed to pick up dead bodies as their mechanic for getting them out of the way as opposed to them just disappearing, but it didn’t make the final cut.

You can learn to speak Sangheili by playing Reach.

I would love for this to happen, those kind of things I enjoy seeing in the story.

343 make it happen

Halo 3: Variety of marines, 1,000,000 quotes, 75% funny things said. Marines are like the comedy of Halo, they make you feel something. Well at least the Halo 2 and 3 marines did…

I kinda wish the marines had that same comedic and Badass attitude like they were back in the previous Halo’s before Reach. They weren’t so bland or being so serious up until recently which is pretty sad. Hell, I still find it funny how the Marines were originally inspired from the Aliens Movie.

Don’t forget the grunts! Their banter in ODST’s Firefight (Especially once Catch came into effect and they’d stick themselves) and Halo 2/3 were a large part of the humor too

I was majorly disappointed when Reach turned around and forced them into their own alien language… Grunts were still amusing yes, but I miss their high pitched voices spewing humorous dialogue through the game.

Here’s a thought: Maybe the IWHBYD Skull reverts them to their witty english dialogue, but without it they continue with their un-funny alien language?

Yeah I agree, halo marines have always had funny dialogue which promotes the player trying to keep them alive just to hear what they say next
