More people in Big Team than regular Slayer?

Let me just first start of by saying that I’m not complaining about anything; this is something that I’ve noticed (as has probably everyone else), and I enjoy both playlists.

Now to the topic…

Does anyone else wonder why Big Team Infinity Slayer is more popular than Infinity Slayer? In Halo 3 and Reach, Team Slayer always had more people in it than BTB. Ironically, I liked BTB in Halo 3 and Reach much more than I do in Halo 4, but that’s just me. So does anyone else wonder why Big Team Slayer has more people usually on it than Infinity Slayer?

I have my own thoughts but I want to see if this goes anywhere first…

That one puzzles me as well. I think it may be due to more map choices overall or the armor unlocks from vehicle mastery. those are just guesses of course, but curious to see more opinions on this one.

I think a lot of people just like the Mantis/Hog/Tank use, there are a lot of vehicle achievements, it’s not uncommon to be able to DMR your way to a 25-6 game.

I know once I get 5 friends in a party (the Halo 3 social limit) you have to go BtB for Slayer action in H4, that seems to happen quite often actually.

Poor 4v4 maps doesn’t help either.

I personally prefer regular slayer (would prefer a 5v5 as well, would REALLY help on complex), to BtB, but it seems to be the flavor of the hour.

There is a lack of playlist options.
There is no competitive playlists.
BTB is the closest thing to H3 gameplay With Ragnarock being voted for 90% of the time.

My thoughts:

 • There are more BTB maps and except for Haven and Complex, I think the BTB maps are more enjoyable overall than say Adrift and Abandon. But that’s just me.

 • More people + Higher Score needed to win (600 vs 1000) = More chances to get kills.

 • It plays to a more casual audience. It’s big, there are numerous chances to get kills (repeat), usually “bigger” ordnance weapons (Rockets, Sniper, Fuel Rod, etc.), and vehicles. Guests won’t get trounced as much in a BTB game. It’s a less competitive feel in BTB than in Infinity Slayer.

 • In BTB vs regular slayer, if you have one “bad” kid in BTB, it probably won’t throw the game, but one “bad” kid in 4v4 and you have a pretty good chance of losing. So in 4v4 slayer, you need a semi-solid team who knows what they are doing to win. Teamwork is more essential in 4v4 than BTB (beating a dead horse…)

 • And I’m sorry to all of those who are tired of Valhalla/Ragnarok, but it’s still the -Yoink-.

And there you go.

BTB to me is fun when you’ve got quite a few people to play with. The 2 maps i like on BTB are Exile and Longbow, Valhalla used to be a good map in the old series, but now everytime i play on it i just use my loadout called “DMR Noob”, the tactic is too good on this map, (DMR, active camp, Armour ability, ammo, camp at spawn with DMR and sniper).

I prefer 4v4 as there’s to me a greater sense of balance, and is more skill driven (you still get noobs who camp or get lucky bs ordinance drops) but aside from that there’s a lot less power weapons and 1 hit kill elements knocking about, only thing i don’t like about 4v4 slayer is map variety, the only 2 maps i like out of the 5 possible 1’s are Adrift and Haven, (Complex is a DMR fest, Solace is ok but the map set is weird to my tastes, and abandon is a reason for people to use boltshot/cqc weapons and the map design is atrocious).

For me, BTB was amazing in Reach. In H4 it is not as good by but meh. You wanna know why Garbaginity Slayer sucks?

I find BTB more fun than just team slayer. Maybe it is just because of the maps.

What map are you suggesting is a good 4v4 map?

I’d rather play 4v4 but honestly… I don’t see anywhere I can go. Instant respawn really kills it, sorry.

I’m only in BTB because the maps are large enough to handle instant respawn. I don’t play it because I love it… It’s just the only tolerable option.

Okay first off, I love the idea of bringing back 5v5.

And second, you are basically just listing off statistics and things like rank and how your K/D could increase if you sit in the back with a DMR and steal the kills of unexpecting teammates.

Ever think of that it just might be that people like BTB more than 4v4 slayer?

Vehicles add so much more strategy than just point, shoot, kill (maybe), and then run away. I love vehicles, it definitely requires more teamwork than 4v4 infinity slayer, which to me, seems like just double teaming in the race to get a kill more than actually working together to strategically kill the opponent.

I have to say though, I don’t enjoy Halo 4’s BTB as much as I enjoyed Reach and Halo 3.

Maybe this is because I don’t like the Mantis.

The Mantis, in my eyes, are really a bad choice in vehicle selecting (in comparison to a Scorpion or a Wraith).

I would much rather be in a Wraith than in a Mantis.

Not to mention, the lack of power weapons in BTB.

343 seems to like to put emphasis on the “Infinity” aspect of BTB (ordnances and what not) to the point where the only thing I have to take down massive vehicles are just a plasma pistol that I spawned with.
This, is not enough firepower to take down a Mantis.
Like I said, they put so much emphasis on the ordnances that they expect you to be killing infantry and then spawn a rocket launcher or a spartan laser, but they neglect the fact that it’s hard to kill people when they are in a vehicle, and that it’s hard to not die when you are being attacked by something you cannot destroy.

I find the only way to successfully kill a Mantis or even the Banshee is by somehow simultaneously harnessing the force of everyone on your team’s primary weapon onto the vehicle, until it retreats, to maybe getting a kill or to to maybe drop and ordnance that has a rocket launcher or spartan laser in it.

It just seems unfair in my eyes.

Jetpack

Sprint

Plasma pistol

Plasma nade

Very dead mantis… What are you talking about?

Vehicles and chaos.

Its simple why there are more players in Big Team than Slayer.

 1. This game appeals to noobs, and noobs like Big Team.

 2. This game has 11 BTB maps and 4 Slayer sized maps. (unless you count complex as a slayer sized map, in that case, you are wrong.)

 3. It takes no strategy or skill to be good at BTB.

> 3) It takes no strategy or skill to be good at BTB.

You know good BTB teams stomp full MLG teams in BTB. I have done it before in H3 but MLG guys hardly ever play BTB because they like MLG. Then again in H4 it does take less skill everyone gets free snipers with camo… oh the good old days.

Saw this thread and had an idea. Maybe it’s because it’s more arena than infinity slayer. Not vehicles for vehicles sake but rather it gives something the team to fight over, like a sword or sniper would have in old halos. Making it have more of a push and pull from perceived skill and map knowledge than just sitting in the corner of adrift hoping you get lucky on your next ordnance drop.

Can’t tell if serious .

Infinity slayer settings simply feel annoying on small maps. BTB just bypasses most of the annoying.

I’d rather cut out the infinity settings and just enjoy the small maps personally.

This so mutch, think i have about 10 matches played in the Team Lol Slayer playlist. Allso hurray for Objectives, at least there we dont have the Infinity crap.

Really? Is it surprising players flock to the playlist where you can get rockets and binaries delivered right to you that you rarely have to fight over? Not to mention the poorly set up maps like Exile where one team is guaranteed to get the overpowered Gauss hog? I don’t find it surprising at all.

That is infinity gametypes for you… facedesk

First of all Big Teams are the most social, sandbox Halo experience so it attracts most people.
Why is it the most popular playlist in Halo 4, when BTB wasn’t that popular in Halo 3 or Reach? Because it’s Big Team SLAYER not Big Team Battle, where in most matches you can’t simply have fun with killing people, because you have to take care of some bomb, or flag, or whatever. Playing objective gametypes with 15 random people was never good.
Also in Halo 4 JIP system took care of quitters, so there are no matches like in Halo 3 or Reach, where one team had 7 players other team had 3 players and both teams had to stay that way for more than 15 minutes, before time’s up. That makes this joyful killing fest even more fun and carefree.

If only 343i take care of that DMR…

It’s because it’s slayer only, I like objective well enough but the majority will always migrate towards pure slayer
