Just a reminder that Infinite has only 1 less map than Halo (11) did at launch, and launched with 2 more maps than Reach did (8).
How about they just make the game stable and consistently playable first before they need to start adding things.
Reach isn’t the most far comparison though, because Reach launched with Forge and Forge World.
Honestly think everyone agrees with you yes we definitely need some more maps old renditions and even new ones however they need to focus on fixing the more important issues with the game then adding in new maps there are other things that should take priority first like giving players a actual proper progression system and not only the battle pass you know something along the lines of the MCC or maybe even Halo reach cuz Halo reach had a decent progression system
Definitely need more maps and more map diversity. These maps aren’t very impressive at all.
I’d like old maps remade to suit infinite at some point for sure. 343 shouldn’t just copy-paste maps from previous games though (and they probably won’t). The maps might have been great in the games they were designed for but they wouldn’t work with Halo infinite’s mechanics and sandbox.
Personally though, I’d prefer a bigger focus on brand new ones first. Then later on (maybe in the second map update) I definitely wouldn’t mind having remade old Halo maps.
Keep in mind though that making a multiplayer map can take weeks or months, depending on how many tiles are ready for use (among other things). So I’d expect 2 or 3 new maps per content update.
Forge maps are obviously faster to make, so a Forge map added every now and then to matchmaking (in addition to maps built from the ground up) isn’t a very bad idea imo. We don’t yet know how flexible the new Forge will be, either. Forge maps could very well have a lot of visual variation too.
I don’t know if the development process for a forge map is much shorter than for a map build from the ground up. Both of these options do still require a lot of testing if they wish to make a successful. However, testing a map is very rarely a quick process, it’s instead a long an iterative process where they optimize the map design recursively based on previous test results.
Why are there NO forerunner style maps? I know Behemoth kind of is but I’m talking more like a guardian, construct, narrows, epitaph complete forerunner style? I get more sandtrap/zanzibar beach vibes from Behemoth.
After seeing how they were finally able to come to their senses in campaign and ditch the stupid shiny floating previous 343 forerunner stuff, why wouldn’t they use that gorgeous art style in MP maps…? Instead all the maps being plain and boring
I would normally say “we need more BTB maps, 3 maps gets boring after almost 1000 matches”, but yeah. I can’t even play BTB lol
A new playlist that’s classic with throwback maps would probably be adored by fans of the trilogy.
Classic settings enabled.
No sprint, clamber, slide, etc. Reliving the old maps in a new engine without the additions to the gameplay mechanics should give a much better replication of the highs players got in those maps rather becoming frustrated that they’re shadows of their former glory when they don’t play as well with all the new stuff.
For infinite settings, I would love all brand new maps, new ideas, new experiences.
At any rate, the more the merrier.
More maps is always better.
Granted some.great maps came from Forge but we are not getting that for a while.
I just hope they don’t do what they did with customization and lock half the Forge items behind a paywall
It would be interesting Ng of they Offered a playlist called Vanilla Halo. Aka Halo 3 ish with old maps.
Granted I doubt it as that’s why they made MCC.
I understand that maps need testing for balance, but you think tiles make a difference?
Where did you get that from?
If they have a bigger selection of tiles ready, they can then reuse those while still making unique-looking maps.
(I’m unsure if “tiles” is the correct word in English. I’m not a native English speaker. But you probably get the idea). The visual design takes a lot of time too, after all.
Another game series I play a lot is Gears of war and like Halo, Gears has had free dlc maps for the latest 2 mainline games. Gears 4 had a few variants of already published maps and quite a bit remakes added after launch because the devs were committed to create additional maps in a steady pace. There were new ones too of course, but they had to rely on remakes to stay in schedule (even though Gears hasn’t changed nearly as much as Halo and remakes of maps from previous titles were merely reskins).
With Gears 5, the developer took a different approach and focused mainly on releasing brand new maps but at a bit slower pace, which honestly ended up healthier for the game as people were pretty tired of remakes after Gears 4.
Later on the lead map designer for Gears explained the creation progress in good detail during a developer stream (which was a really interesting watch) and he went over everything that goes into designing the maps. He also explained how the map creation progress was slower early into the game’s life cycle but as they later on had more tiles already done, they could make the maps quicker. That was essentially possible because of the slower pace of releasing maps and it eventually made it faster to create new maps.
The maps in Gears 5 are really detailed, though. Much more than those in Halo infinite. So having more tiles ready was probably more impactful there than it would be in Halo infinite. But still, it would make the process faster. Especially since remakes of old maps would have to be edited a lot from their original design to suit infinite.
EDIT: Hopefully the new Forge will have much more visual choises. If it does, I would welcome occasional Forge maps too. It would guarantee more maps more often without sacrificing too much on visual variety.
Sorry about the huge wall of text btw
I would prefer forge made maps rather than recycled maps from older games.
I am always going to say yes to more maps.
yo do i know you?
but agreed!! they need to add some brand new styled maps, i was just meaning like the visuals i wish they had a forerunner looking one but their own version of it! Like a colesium from h5 style but with the new art direction would be awesome
Yoooo wutup homie! I actually replied just to the general opening post the creator of the thread made and not anyone specifically. That sounds like a dope idea though. I’m kinda concerned bro. There’s like 5 or so months left in this current season 1. They’ve said they got plans for events, playlists, unlockables…but nothing about maps dude. I’m legit worried about that. We need more maps with the playlist additions. I dont mind the maps, most aside from WackHemoth are great, but adding a few in rotation with those ones would really spice multiplayer up and reduce player burn out.
I crave for variety to the point I want Snowbound back.
GIVE ME SNOWBOUND -Yoink!- I DON’T CARE.
yes but H3 launched with 11 maps and we didnt see new maps till 3 months after launch so im in no rush
