more long range sniper look and feel

it is my personal belief that the halo 4 sniper rifle looks and feels like less of a sniper rifle and more like a longer range one shot dmr, im very concerned that in halo 4 from what ive seen from gameplay and that that the sniper has lost its identity , from what i believe the sniper rifel should be about long range picking off targets and less quick scoping and all that short/mid range jazz. anyone agree? i think its a shame really like with the shorter barrel and all and from what the feel looks and plays like its geared toward more qucker shots and i dont think a sniper should be about that it should be about aiming and hitting from a distance

Whilst I understand where you’re coming from, I don’t think it works that way. It’ll still be used primarily as a long range weapon. This new medal’ll just reward people for their skill, or luck, because sometimes it is pretty hard to get a no-scope headshot.

I’ve believe this since the early days in H3 when I accidentally killed someone with the body-shot followed by melee combo. We’ve had the no-scoping and close range sniping for years. It’s rarely been perceived as a problem before. Sniping in Halo has never really been traditional sniping, crouching was often as stealthy as it go, strafing side to side versus another sniper is commonplace and is the norm for the “Halo Snipe-off”, at pretty much any range, be it from across Valhalla or between corridors on Countdown.

Dude, no offense or harsh terms, but get over it. Its function is the same as every other Sniper in Halo. And besides, people use the Sniper how they want to, no-scoping or laid back sniping.

If you have enough skill to pull of a no-scope, then you should get rewarded.

“Snapshot!”

Most people will continue to use it for its intended range though.

Here’s something to take note, we have only seen 4 or so maps, we haven’t seen any actual BTB maps so we haven’t seen the full potential/feel of the sniper.

I got to agree to some extend, a sniper is a long range weapon and allowing it to be good/easy to use at close-mid range makes it too good, not like you want the shotty to have a chance to get a lucky long range HS at random…

The main problem is that sniping back in previous games took to much skill, even the devs (see bulletin) said so, it was to hard for them and hence the randoms to pull off. In Halo 3 you had a designated sniper on the team who knew their things, while the random “wanna be pro” dudes ran off to get rockes/shotty instead.
That changed in Halo Reach, and although the sniper looks a bit better (gameplay wise) it’s still to much railgun and not enough sniper, going for body shots is better then going for HS, noscoping is easy etc. A sniper should be slow, deadly, and limited ammo. You want to make each shot count (HS or die trying), not spam like a fuelrod, aiming for body and fast kills (Reach). I just hope the Halo community learns how to snipe so the devs dare to make it a skilled weapon again…

The sniper will always be a long range weapon. But you can’t fault the weapon design just because someone has learned how to use it in close quarters. It’s not a problem with the design it’s just the skill in which the one uses it.

Not really, Syndicate showed that a sniper could do very well as a mid-long range weapon as long as you added a red dot sight. ^^
The problem is not that you can use the sniper as a close range weapon, but teh fact that it is effective as one. Lower rate of fire as well as limited ammo would make it worse in cqc (unless you’re skilled enough to noscope) and would “force” players to learn hot to snipe, go for HS, or waste their precious ammo. Halo Reach is a prime example of how a sniper shouldn’t be, a DMR with extra firepower, spam and win gun.

it looks much more realistic, before it looked like an anorexic tank gun, it was bigger than a 50 cal by alot the halo 4 snipe still is but its an acceptable length the others were kind of big… i honestly wonder how marines one handed those on mongooses…
