This may not be what you’re used to seeing these forums i.e. people giving constructive criticism but mostly non-constructive criticism. I’m actually going to be talking about the Halo lore/story/universe.
Anyway, to people who actually care about the future Halo games and other media’s, as the subject says, do you think we’ll see more infinity class ships in future Halo games? or do you think they’ll create even bigger/better ships?
It took 20 years to create the Infinity, I doubt we’ll be seeing more in the near future.
I really can’t imagine the UNSC building too many Infinity Class vessels, simply because they are so huge. It is definitely a command vessel (I’m picturing two or three for every fleet).
There’s not a doubt in my mind that such an organization would want a more dependable ship with technology they fully understand rather than tinkering with easily hacked forerunner stuff.
Being spied on by the Covenant just because the Infinity’s engines were forerunner would be a huge security breach that deserves some serious looking into.
To DeceptionCobra:
It took 20 years to build and design the craft. That doesn’t mean that it would take 20 years to build each ship of the class.
A comparative analogy would be the Galaxy class from ‘Star Trek: TNG’, that vessel also took 20 years to build and design. That didn’t stop the Federation from having a crap ton of them by the time the Dominion War came knocking.
20 years to create the first one but maybe now they have the blueprints to make them much faster now?
Didn’t it like almost bankrupt the entire UNSC? Can’t imagine they would want to do that again.
Well, it took like 10 years or something like that to build the infinity, I guess it could be possible if there was another one being built at the same time (I am pretty sure that did not happen). I think we could see other ships in the UNSC fleet start to have shields and stuff though.
> 20 years to create the first one but maybe now they have the blueprints to make them much faster now?
Maybe it won’t take 20 years to build more, but it certainly doesn’t make sense to mass produce them. It would require so much materials and funds, you’d be better off making smaller ships like the Forward Unto Dawn or the Pillar of Autumn with all the new upgrades.
The first one was made in secret wasn’t it? so maybe if the next ones aren’t, then there could be more people working on it? Also I really like the new design of the frigate, I really want 343 to redesign the other UNSC ships or just make different ones. I’m wondering if every UNSC ship now has an upgraded slipspace drive and shielding.

Course that means you would have to pay more people to make more ships on top of the funding for all the other materials. It just isn’t economically feasible.
It took a long time to build but we probably will see something similar or other ships combining Forerunner and UNSC tech.
I’m sure we’ll see more, but perhaps not quite at the calibur of the Infinity itself.
While a good chunk of the tech could be mass produced, for a cost, the main issue is finding a good supply of Forerunner engines and tech to use. We’ve been able to reverse engineer some Covie tech…but most Forerunner tech is just so far ahead of what the UNSC has that they just strap it on and hope for the best.
And of course, there is the whole issue of the Covies being able to hack into a ship that straps on Forerunner tech…so I’d imagine the UNSC is going to try and avoid using as much Forerunner technology in future models as possible.
Frankly, I don’t see the point in larger ships. You provide the enemy a bigger target, give a higher chance of something going wrong with the hull, and presumably make yourself less manueverable.
I wouldn’t guess we’d see many more, if any at all. Two or three maybe.

Look at the long night of solace, it alone had the firepower and alienpower to take over Reach until reinforcements arrived, yes it may have been blown up but if there were some important charcters onboard a UNSC style super carrier than it has a better chance of survival.
yeah i think that ships like the infinity can help UNSC to protect and atack the covenant, with this ships the UNSC have more fire power and a tecnology bigger maybe to start the jump to the tecnological advance age from 3 to 4 maybe there is the begining of something…
> It took 20 years to create the Infinity, I doubt we’ll be seeing more in the near future.
As the pathfinder ship, it may have taken the longest… But I am sure that if the UNSC wanted they could bang out another one quicker…
I really doubt they’d have the money and resources capable to build more. The Infinity and the Spartan IV’s has to have used up most of whatever resources the UNSC had after the war. Considering in Halo 3 all the UNSC had left of their fleet was a few frigates, I doubt they had much left to work with.
Factor in the repairing, rebuilding, and recolonizing of worlds along with the Infinity, Mantis, reconstructing a home fleet, & SIV’s and I really doubt the UNSC has anything left. How humanity has come back as quickly and the way they did I can only assume they have empty wallets or everything magically appeared for humanity to get better.

The UNSC INFINITY is a prototype of the Infinity-class Cruiser, and as of 2558, more were in construction. The Forerunner technology recovered at Gamma Halo and Trevelyan made the ship-making process for Infinity-Class ships only about 5 years.
The 20 years spent making the Infinity was mainly due to the Human-Covenant War and because of ONI having to put so much resources into keeping it a secret.
By 2565, Infinity-Class Cruisers will serve as command centers of UNSC battle groups instead of the Flagship of the entire UNSC. They will take a similar role as the Assault Carrier did in Covenant fleets.

Where did you get that information? I’ve heard no evidence to support that claim whatsoever.

Says who or what?

We are still talking about a ship about 5km long packed with all of the latest and most expensive UNSC technology. Trying to mass produce something like that would still take many years. Maybe not 20, but certainly not as quick as some would believe.

Where are you getting this info?
A lot of it is speculation, not actual info; but the credible ones are from Halopedia.
