This has been overstated, but we need more playlists. I’d like to actually play the game mode I want to play instead of being forced into the hodgepodge catch 22s.
There also needs to be a better distinction between casual and ranked (which would be solved with more playlists).
I just played a match of 4v4 whatever game mode the game decides, and I got steamrolled by the other team. It wasn’t even a competition. I don’t mind getting steamrolled, my issue is that I don’t want to play at a ranked level during Quick Play, which I assume is meant to be the casual/chill outlet.
We should have the game modes and playlists we expect from a Halo title. We should have a clear social chill section and a clear ranked section. I also do not want us to have to wait for an event to play them like Fiesta Tenrai, they should be a part of the default game.
Any thoughts on this? I feel that with more playlists the casual and competitive issue I was mentioning earlier could be resolved. What do y’all think?
Yep. We definitely need more playlists. They will come. And I’m sure they have some in their pocket to spice things up in December. SWAT for example would be very easy to implement.
As for the social “chill” there are plenty of threads about SBMM. But the bottom line is that (loose / team based) SBMM is needed… otherwise it just becomes a feeding frenzy for good players.
I’m sure the other team that rolled you were feeling quite ‘chilled’.
To make a distinction between social and ranked I think we need to remove or reduce all the factors that make ranked so sweaty. Remembering that the maps, weapon and equipment placements, etc - are all meticulously fine tuned for that competitive feel.
Make it multi-team. eg. 4v4v4. By adding extra players you immediately make the map more chaotic. And you are always outnumbered 2:1 so there is no point running typical map control play styles.
Share the weapons and equipment. Focusing on single timed spawns is the epitome of sweaty play (go hard, win the item, and then use it to dominate). Options include; taking them out entirely, having multiple spawns, or giving them to everyone.
Add buffs and nerfs to players. If your K:D falls below 0.8 give that player a little extra damage and/or boost their shields. If you die 3 times quickly - make your next spawn with overshields. If someone is dominating (eg. K:D > 2) make it so power weapons and equipment don’t appear / can’t be picked up for them. If you’ve just done five kills in one life - ‘reward’ that player by popping their shields until the next spawn.
The idea is to mix it up, add a little bit of randomness, and encourage people to not take it as seriously. Then everyone can have fun.
Those are some really good points! I like your ideas a lot; I think we just need some fun injected into the way the game is currently played. Everyone loves the feel and how it plays, now we just need more ways to push the engine. Playlists, some buffs, changing the weapon spawns, etc. just like you said!
I think they didn’t do that specifically because of it being a beta. They are testing things here, not showing you their full hand. If you look at the achievements there are a couple of gametypes not even shown here. That should be sufficient enough to show you it’s not all they have.
I know it’s not everything they have to offer, there will obviously be patches and updates, especially considering all the negative feedback for it right now outside of its gameplay. That being said I wouldn’t consider this a beta anymore. If they’re selling us stuff it’s not a beta just for testing, that’s why I’m a bit more concerned about it right now.
Specifically for this thread, imo they should at least give us the option to play the few game modes there are individually. Maybe I’d like to hone down my tactics for control, or play with the mechanics of stockpile a bit, but currently I can’t. If they split up the community with the playlists we’ve come to expect from a Halo title then the ranked v casual issue I mentioned would dissolve or at least be at an acceptable level.
