As an avid user of the turrets that debuted in Halo 3, I’d like to see us be able to do a little more with them. I feel in Reach they are underpowered, so in Halo 4 there should be some additional things you can do to balance them out. Rockets don’t slow you down, and they’re more deadly than a turret. Here’s a couple ideas:
-Crouching should be allowed when carrying a turret. Of course it would slow you to a crawl, but it should still be possible. Another idea I had is that if you crouch with a turret, you literally can’t move at all. The Spartan would place the turret on the ground for more accuracy (reduced bullet spread, but no mobility). It would also be nice if we could crouch back at the people without mics who want to say hello.
-Meleeing with turrets. I know it sounds a little crazy, but maybe we should be able to have a delayed melee while holding a turret. When we press a button, our melee shouldn’t happen until about 1 second later (equivalent to a Crysis 2 power melee), because our Spartan would have to pick up this heavy turret to strike the enemy with. It would still do normal damage and be slower to execute, but it should still be possible.
-Movement speed should be bumped up. Make it only 10% less of the normal speed. Like I said, some power weapons like rockets and swords don’t slow you down and they are 10 times more powerful. I’d like to see an increase in movement speed with the same power level, or an increase in power. If this was the case, maybe a turret should be considered a power weapon.
-As much as I love the third person when you pick up a turret, I believe it should probably stay in first person in Halo 4. It’s a large weapon and would block some of your view, and it would get rid of the people that think it’s unfair to see around corners (I personally don’t think this).
-Reloading? Maybe beside the turret spawn, there should be ammo “crates” that could be picked up and used to refill your turret. When torn off the mount, you would still get your 200 bullets, but say after a new turret spawns, an ammo crate would spawn beside the new one, and it when you walk over them it could either automatically refill, or have a very long reload animation. Reloading should only be possible if you are completely out of ammo.
-The way they look. I didn’t care for the multiple barrel look that Halo 3 had, and Reach’s were perfect, but they had the stupid looking shield thing on the front. Make it look like Jorge’s turret. If it does come to having the shield thing on the front, maybe it should provide us with a little protection, but I’d prefer to see it gone.
