More Depth in the Multiplayer

I feel like depth has always been missing in Halo multiplayer. Sadly I can’t really put my finger on that one big “great” idea. But what I want is to feel like there’s more to just jumping in a game shooting people, then on to the next. Maybe more competition. A summary pops up at the end of the game to show how well it effected me and all the good or bad things I did during the game (stats). Maybe if me and my friends build a squad, we have the same emblem, and when we’re together we get ranked or gain more Xp. The division our squad is in will be decided by how many people we have in the squad. Have more tournaments. Have music going while in a game (you have the choice to turn it on or off). Give us a broad arrange of voices to pick from, and make them yell out during battle, kind of like Battlefield. Maybe have a leaderboard come up after each game to show you where you are ranked in the world for a certain game type after each match.
Overall: MAKE EACH GAME SEEM MUCH BIGGER than what it really is. Make it a big show! Make it something we can all get into and keeps making us come back for more.

Seems like a big show and big deal in the multiplayer teaser they released.

Helpful hint: add a few paragraphs. It’s not that big of a type wall, but paragraphs would help.

Anyway, on-topic!
Your ‘Squad togetherness’ could be like clans; I don’t somebody getting extra ranking/XP just for having the same emblem. Adding clans could work. However, just because I play with somebody who’s my friend doesn’t mean I should rank up easier either.

I suggest bonus [whatever the ranking currency is] for teamwork. The game can calculate how well your team worked together. Did you guys stay as a pack or a duo? Or were you split up as lone wolves? Did you play nice? Or did you beat the brains out of the teammate that took ‘your’ Sniper Rifle or Mantis? Even more deciders in Objective matches.

Music can sometimes be distracting. The Last Man Standing and Flag Holder tune is great for the scenario and adds tension, but some can find it annoying. If there is a way to turn music by itself off, I say go for it.
Another cool idea is transferring music from the Xbox Music app to in-game, and have it play out of a Warthog’s radio. Because listening to the lyrics ‘I crashed my into a bridge’ while in a flaming jeep is nothing but fun.
I said cool idea, not probable.

As for character voices, I agree. Yet not too much. I’d like Spartans to say more than just ‘BLARGH’ and ‘UHHH’. Maybe such like ‘Grenade!’ ‘I have the flag!’ or ‘Banshee inbound!’ when an enemy enters a Banshee. Have certain voice character unlocks. I dunno, but it can’t be overkill like the announcements in Halo 4. Have certain voice character unlocks.

Yeah it got me pretty excited, but it was only a few quick CGI clips

Extra Credits- Depth vs Complexity

Halo multiplayer has plenty of depth. It seems what you’re asking for is a bit more complexity and a few more shiny baubles on top of it all. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing; I love frosting on my cake. Let’s just be sure we know what exactly what it is we’re talking about.

So, you just kinda want to make the multiplayer games feel like they mean more, right? Like your actions have definitive impact and are important? That multiplayer is now canon could certainly help with that. Perhaps a section of multiplayer could be devoted to clan wars, with some sort of regimented structure governing a series of matches?

I like your idea for teamwork but idk how it would work, when I said extra xp with squad members, I meant a small amount (something to make you feel more unified). Oh and the warthog idea was great xD.

You have some nice ideas but I would prefer the voices stuck to Firefight/Spartan Ops (ala Reach style) because I wouldn’t like to be sneaking then have my Spartan scream RELOADING which happens in Battlefield and subsequently get you killed a lot, I don’t like my Spartan screaming grenade as it means a skilled player at the giving end can trace my voice to where my new position is then get the advantage whereas if I remained silent he would have no idea.

Not really. I’d like to put depth as: Can the best of the best still learn something years after the game is out?

The answer is no, especially in Halo 4 that is.

Even in Halo 1, 2 or 3 the depth really isn’t that big. It may be compared to other shooters, but players are going to hit a stop after sometime (1-3 years?). It’s not like chess where people still revolutionize and come up with new tactics even on this day despite being 500 years old.

> Halo multiplayer has plenty of depth.

I wouldn’t really agree with that statement.

Arena Shooters in general, there’s tons of skill involved, but the games are pretty straightforward in their meta. Kill enemies, collect map items when they appear, control key positions on the map. That isn’t to say depth doesn’t exist in Halo, just that its relatively under emphasized.

I think OP is confused though. He’s not talking about depth, he’s talking about immersion and how wide-scale the game feels. Clans, music, voices, etc don’t add strategic depth.

well, not strategic depth, but emotional depth.
a game doesn’t have to be complex to have depth.

I’d like there to be more of a reward for what I do and what my team does.

There should be a lot of medals that can be awarded for certain things - even sticking next to a teammate within 10 meters for different amounts of time should get medals.

And then those medals should be lumped into different commendations for things I do.
If I get lots of assists, always stick near players, almost always go positive, etc. I expect to get LOTS of XP, credits, and ranking.

I’d also like to see whatever my “skill” ranking is go up on two different levels, where there’s team skill and personal skill, where K/D is tracked on PS and TS tracks assists and how helpful you are.

So if you saw someone who had a high TS and a low PS you’d expect them to be really useful or helpful in game but they’d probably stay out of the firefights while someone with an incredible PS but a low TS would be that guy who sits in the back with a DMR.

Last but not least I’d like to see the return of broad commendations like Reach where ALL weapons in a category count towards that commendation, like automatics, headshot weapons, snipers, etc. and then have a way to put that in your gamer card so that people can get a broad idea of how you play.

For instance:
xXxSnIpErNoScOpEs360BRUH420xXx
TS - 2 PS - 56
“Onyx-Class Sniper”

You’re right. I think a better phrasing would have been, “Halo has a decent depth-to-complexity ratio”, particularly the older ones. That might not be quite right either though, because a lot of the strategy just comes from knowing the maps and spawns, and then communicating with your team.
