I want more info about the Characters in the Campaign, I feel like there was lack of Character Relationship in the story.
what if you’re new to halo? The story expects you to know about blue team before you play.
I wish 343i would have built up both teams more. You’re more-or-less thrown into the action with no backstory to how Osiris came to be, nor how Blue team met up with Chief.
Escalation at least helps on the Blue team front while Osiris is completely obscured.
An argument could be made for the idea that new players would be inspired to delve deeper into the lore precisely BECAUSE the game doesn’t flesh them out much.
I think for a new player they won’t really care about how much Blue Team are developed as they have context of them existing in the canon before Halo 5. Those that are disappointed in how much Blue Team are developed seem to be those with a casual knowledge of the extended universe and these people seem to be the most vocal. Those that are well versed in Blue Team through other media seem to be silently disappointed.
Right from the beginning the story had severe pacing issues. Instead of character and world-building, the opening gives us a two-minute nonstop action sequence. Sure, it’s flashy and it’s pretty. But it tells nothing about the world. It tells us nothing about the characters. Action scenes always used to be the job for the player. Cutscenes focused on characters and story. Now cutscenes take time to show action, but gameplay is still only about shooting enemies. The balance is nonexistent. And despite Halo 5 having an ensemble cast, there’s less cutscenes than in Halo 4. How is that a healthy sign?
There’s no room or time left for proper storytelling.
Unless there’s some secret rulebook stating things like “A Halo-game needs to have less than an hour of cutscenes” or “playing through the story content must not last more than six hours”… Please use more TIME on telling a story. Why is it that while games like BioShock, Wolfenstein and Metro can bolster 10+ hour stories, Halo is still stuck in the sub-10 hour club along with Battlefield and CoD… Despite Halo having one of the most detailed background universes in gaming?
Or maybe having a significant multiplayer component is the reason we can’t advance any further. Either way, length is currently a serious limiter for the future potential of Halo singleplayer.
