As a Halo fan, one of my favorite aspects is the aliens. They’re all really interesting and incredibly well-designed and cool-looking (heck, even the grunts are getting into it now). But here’s the thing…
We’ve been told that THOUSANDS of sentient beings were rescued by the Librarian. Yet we’ve only met, ah counts 8, besides the Forerunners we’ll inevitably be meeting.
So I’m thinking, why not introduce more? Personally, I’d like a bunch more big biped types that could potentially be added to multiplayer. Heck, I think it’d be cool if we met some original Prophets, before they became those gnarled, hunchbacked, ugly nuts we all know and want to strangle today.
Perhaps form alliances and whatever with a non-hostile (for once) race or two. It’d be a good justification for putting some cool new races in Infinity multiplayer in the next few games, along with the possibility of a Human-Elite alliance that will let us play as them as well (and maybe Forerunners, if we meet any good ones in the game. Hopefully not just Promethean Knights, but actual organic Forerunner warriors).
My main motivation for asking is to justify getting a bunch new playable races into matchmaking in the next couple games. Variety is always nice, I think we can all agree, right?
this is the kind of thinking that leads to enemies like the flood.
Im not sure if there will be other playable matchmaking guys. Now that matchmaking is a part of cannon I don’t know how that will work exactly.
I don’t think that a ton of different creatures would be good for matchmaking but in campaign if it fits in cannon it would be sweet.
There are so many things to explore in the new trilogy, I’d be surprised if we didn’t see a lot of species, on Requiem or other places. If you look closely, in the Halo 4 demo, there’s some sort of flying silver squid thing above Chief, too.

Not just to FIGHT. I’d be fine if there was just some aliens in cutscenes or backstory, or at the most fighting alongside us as allies like the normal marines do. Honestly, I’d prefer if we had some sort of “I don’t really like fighting, but give me some good armor and a gun and I can do some damage” alien instead of another “ROAR! I’m an alien and I’m here to keeeeel yoooou!!!” type.
And if y’all are worried about hitboxes and such, I was thinking along the lines of something like this from that new Predator movie. You know, something with a human shape but is obviously not human.

if we don’t actually kill them then what’s the point? I couldn’t care less about how different alien species look whereas I care about what they do.

Just something to add to the story. They’d be in cutscenes and maybe fight alongside us, but you don’t need to make a new alien killable to make it a cool addition to a sci-fi game.
Just so long as their whole purpose doesn’t revolve around everyone wanting to sleep with them like another species I know…

If we found a race who wasn’t willing to kill us but is still combat-worthy, I’m sure the UNSC would try to work out an alliance right-quick. Then they send a few of their baddest soldiers to Infinity as a sort of seal-the-deal thing, and boom, we got aliens. Same could happen with the Elites, easily.
If not in Halo 4, than 5 and 6. I can wait.
Forerunner A.I look like Bionicles. What are we gonna be fighting in Halo 5, Pokemon?

Well, those are some cool looking Bionicles.
Some of em r cool looking.

oh my god that sounds awesome! I’ve always wanted to but a few bullet holes in pikachu’s face.
David Ellis said we haven’t seen anything yet.

I for one want to see more alien races introduced. Even if they are very limited in scope to the campaign. Maybe for Halo 4 they would just be in cut scenes. Master Chief would come upon them, a cut scene happens, then you continue on with your mission. At least it would set it up that Master Chief could then either fight them or fight along side them in Halo 5.
Halo definitely needs more alien races. It’s a huge galaxy. I can’t see there being just the Covie races, Forerunners and us (and Precursors). There should be more aliens, both sentient and non-sentient. You have to imagine the ark had many races stored there. Afterall, why would the librarian be called as such if she just had to catalog the covies, and humans? Actually pretty easy work there considering…

I like the flood. They get your blood pumping and you get to see groups of enemies explode before you as you shoot them… well, unless you suck. Even if you do suck, its fun to try isn’t it?
maybe 343i could get some inspiration from star wars. One thing I loved about star wars was it’s huge variety of aliens in the one scene.
Just so long as they don’t do what Mass Effect does and give us a bunch of cool designs with human personalities. That’s one thing I don’t really like about series like that, they take a human personality and make it apply to every alien of a species. Single-minded scientist=Salarian, all-knowing -Yoink!-=Asari, sleazy businessman=Volus, and so on.
In Halo… actually, how DOES Halo do it differently? I always see characters like Thel and Rtas as aliens whereas I’ll see people like Wrex as “gruff guy who happens to have a bony head”.
My favorite franchise for alien-design is the AvP way. They give their stuff a human shape, but fill it out to make it completely different, like that River Ghost alien I posted earlier.
