From how they have described their battle pass plans for Infinite, I am no longer worried about the monetization. Beforehand, I was somewhat worried that we’d have a certain time limit to get things we want and then we’d have to buy a new pass, but y’all are doing what you do with MCC. Great job, 343!
Personally I think this approach is great for the game, the free to play model is awesome as it means the game gets much longer and better support.
People don’t need to buy the battle pass if they don’t want to, but get the same gameplay content upgrades as everyone else. I love it in all my multiplayer games honestly.
How they described it i think it sounds pretty good. But there are plenty of people that talk mad -Yoink- about the new direction of Halo monetization. But im pretty optimistic.

Goodness, like EVERY OTHER post on Twitter has at least one dude repeating some variation of “The reason for <X DESIGN DECISION> is to push Microtransactions on people” or “They can’t do <Y FEATURE> because it won’t sell MTX’es”
And it’s long since stopped being funny.

Oh ya i definity saw that too, everyone thinks they are super smart and “seen trough 343 design”.
But consider 343 claims it wont have a direct Item Shop and no Lootboxes, everything should be unlocked by playing as part of Tasks or Battlepass i think people paint demons on the wall which have nothing todo with 343 claims.
I just wonder if Halo Infinites Battlepass will be as rewarding as CoD one for example, the rewards allow you usaly to buy the next pass for free. I actually doubt it even but who knows.

If I’m analyzing the MP Overview correctly, it seems as if the battlepasses are just straight up one big purchase that evolves overtime. If that isn’t the case, they probably will have that system in place since literally everyone else does it

I couldn’t agree more. They’ve taken the best of the old and the new while looking at other titles to land perfectly in the middle. Monetisation that’s cosmetic only and NEVER expires. No FOMO manipulation bull-dust.

But how is that profitable even? That would mean the whole service costs a player 15€ ONCE. Thats not enough money to support an MP Game for years to come right? There is a reason why Online games have or had either seasonal expensions, only sub, or other cash shop items… its not for greed its usaly because it costs the have the game maintained and running.
I’d accept this system given it’s F2P, however, I fully expect tons of customization content to be locked behind separate paywalls which I don’t find even remotely acceptable (consumers have become way too accepting of grotesque live service monetization).
If a year into this ‘live service’ game the only way to give Infinite money is an anti-fomo Battle Pass system then I’ll be happy (given 343i manages to justify the Campaign’s $60 price tag). I unfortunately have a hard time imagining such a reality.

I don’t blame them one bit when most of the gaming market has intrusive ways of monetizing, couple that with developers who just don’t have people’s trust as well and of course people are going to be pessimistic. I liked what I heard today for infinite myself but do I trust it? Nah, I gotta see it to really believe it, and developers have crammed stuff in post launch before after making the claims of no monetizing and such, just gotta look at EA or even Bethesda.

It is certainly odd, but like I said, I could be wrong. Also I’m somewhat certain there will be an item shop in Infinite, since MCC has something like one (albeit it is free) and MCC seems to be testing stuff that will be a thing in Infinite, so maybe they intend to keep it running through the store.
The way i understand it from my listen is that
- Each season will have a battle pass available for purchase. - Once you purchase a season’s battle pass, you can progress towards items in that pass forever. - You choose what season of items you’re currently progressing through.Sounds basically like MCC’s setup as the foundation, but there will also be premium tier of items available through purchase of the pass.
I think it’s unclear if free tier rewards will be available for progression forever at this point, but I would be surprised if they weren’t.
I think there’s a chance the seasonal rewards might be the only actual limited time items, since that’s how it works with MCC.

I would think they will use the destiny model of $10 a battle pass roughly every 3 months or so .but it remains to be seen .make no bones about it whilst being ftp these systems are much more profitable for the devs longterm .
They take something away to have something of value to sell us in this case it’s the customisation options .

Except we have skins tied to buying promotional stuff. So there is pay to skip the battle pass.

It was stated in the vidoc that the stuff in the Battle Pass is only available in the Battle Pass. Conversely, this also means that promotional skins are only acquired via promotional events/purchases. They made it pretty clear there would be very little to no crossover.

I’d actually say thats even worse then. So we have some pure FOMO things after all.
MCCs progression system is honestly what I hate most about the game. It’s so lazy, uninspired, and outright boring to go through.
Very disappointed with this.

Back in the good ol days you just Had everything unlocked in mcc… Dont know why that damn reach crowd wanted 343 to add an Grind System.
I dont need grind to keep playing a game i enjoy but it seems im an exception.

I like having to actually unlock stuff. It makes armor customization a bit more special. When it’s implemented in such a lazy way like seasons I get bored of it immediately.
A mix of Reach and 3’s unlock system would have been perfect like how Battlefield handles weapon unlocks. Certain armor is unlocked through grind and others are unlocked through completing challenges.
I am grateful 343i seems to understand I do not want to treat their game like it is worth as much effort as two full time jobs to unlock everything within a time limit. It also really sucks when you decide to take a break, travel, or get bogged down with life and miss out on rewards or events for them to never show up again. Other games could learn from this.
Glares at FortniteMy main complaints about the unlock system are if they force garbage armor from their previous games for tiers 1-90, with only the last tiers being worth unlocking, and if there are no challenge/achievement based rewards like in Halo 3, and to a lesser extent, Halo: Reach.
