Modern gaming is really boring a lot of people out. It is so repetitive and nothing is acquired out of it
Just put halo in bungie’s shoes. Halo 1,2,3 etc
Make the game feel like halo. Not call of duty. Remember, you guys have halo, don’t copy from other games, copy from halo
While I agree that Halo plays better without Sprint and Clamber, Bungie was progressing to a similar path of “modern gaming”; just look at Reach before they left and then Destiny.
Progression always starts in limited fashion. It was also universally viewed as creating annoying limitations and unbalanced mechanics, which drove developers to create (seemingly popular) smoother movement controls that are balanced (ie everyone can do it). Note: Bungie’s Destiny had integrated Sprint+Slide to movement controls before Halo.
Games are inherently repetitive, and I’d say modern games do a much better job at keeping it fresh. The thing game developers actually have to solve is to find gameplay that players actually want to keep repeating.
Complaining that games are repetitive makes as much sense as complaining that golf or football or any sport is repetitive. You are allowed to not like it, but asking for it to not be repetitive would be like asking for your favorite sport to change every time you play it.
Is it modern games, or just you getting older? I have noticed in the last 5 years that the spark of playing games is mostly gone for me. It doesn’t help that most “new” games have nearly a double digit at the end of their title or says something like “remastered”
Much of what I have played recently feels a lot like deja-vu. Much of the entertainment industry seem to have been in a creative fugue for a while and has been coasting on past success.
It also doesn’t help that modern expectation want obscene levels of graphics and performance which contributes to bloated file sizes and broken games.
A combination of both if we’re being honest. Part of it is growing up and realizing you might not like something as much anymore, and the other part of it is companies like DICE and EA.
