Modern Aiming

Since 343 has made adjustments and devoted assets to MCC for Modern Aiming, I was wondering if us Veterans of Halo 1-4 who perfer the older style of aiming can have the same style in Halo 5 and in the future… Halo 6. I cannot get the aiming right even with the added options in Halo 5. Im finding myself over compensating when trying to aim in general and I have missed shots because of it. If you can for MCC I’m quite sure that you can for Halo 5 and 6.

That ship sailed long ago for H5. The difference between MCC and H5 is MCC has a small dedicated team to fix and sustain it whereas H5 just has a sustain team and then maybe a crew that will come back if H5 breaks. I’m sure Infinite will have decent aiming options, but I wouldn’t get my hopes up for H5.

this game already has modern aiming. Mcc was a port of old games on new consoles with new controllers so it was bound to feel weird for some people. Aiming issues on h5 come from the bad gameplay where everyone is sonic and can fly in any direction at anytime because someone thought that was a good idea lol

I disagree. Halo 5 is indeed different in aspects of aiming, but the movement being considerably faster is not the issue. I played all Halos as they were first released and had no trouble aiming when new games came out. Just find the settings that fit you and practice A LOT. Muscle memory will do their thing, eventually.

The aiming issues aren’t because of the movement abilities. I’d have to find the link, but it’s believed that H5 has some weird acceleration zones or something like that plus other things like heavy aim which is causing the issues. The most known theory is that Ghost said the aiming felt ‘squirrelly’ and it was changed after the beta. Whether that was the actual reason is still unknown, but some suspect that it was.

Settings can be changed, including acceleration, outer and inner deadzone for the right joystick and obviously sensitivity. This model that 343i used for the aim mechanics felt weird at first, but these changes are for good and you can get used to them easily. Just try different values until you find the one.

I may be in the minority here but Halo 5 is probably one of the best feeling Halo games since Halo 2. There’s definitely a learning curve, but it’s nothing as clunky as Halo 3 or as Call of Duty simple as Halo 4.

I turned down the deadzones all the way and it helped. I remember the beta version of the game feeling awful tho.

What I’m saying is that I can pick up the past Halos and I pick up where I left off, and it feels natural. I don’t like the quick aim of a twitch shooter (COD). I have tried slowing things down etc. but it still feels like an ice cube on a hot surface when aiming. There’s just no friction so to speak when aiming, just this glossy fast weird acceleration.

i agree with you the learning curve is movement but seems like everyone just wants shooting?

This sounds like a sensitivity problem. The aim assist and bullet magnetism are very strong in Halo 5. I prefer how it was in previous Halos more than modern though. I don’t know what you play at but, I’d put my acceleration at 1.

the game isnt faster. Its erratic and theres no flow so 0 map control because anyone can just thrust and clamber taking any route ever. Its why swords and hammers are stupid on h5. Can just sprint, slide, thrust and then zoom in to get a kill from across most arena maps. Other than people flying into fights from anywhere, they can fly away at anytime too. LOL

i have a feeling H Infs aiming will be similar to H5… i’m not sure if 343 would go back on that… only time can tell ;-;

Turn your sensitivity way down. I rolled with 7-10 in all prevopre Halos, I have it down to 4 in Halo 5 and it plays perfect.

What you propose then?

That’s the difference between wanna-be-skilled players and real skilled ones, gold and everyone else above: golds can either shoot or move but not both, same when speaking of team playing and solo playing.

innovate through the sandbox additions. That way we get real halo gameplay and hopefully fun new ways to enjoy it

The thing is, this game isn’t like the others. There are too many changes for the CoD crowd, it doesn’t feel Halo and feels more like a twitch shooter. You dress up as anyone from CoD in Halo 5 and I wouldn’t think it was a Halo game. I can shoot and move at the same time but I’m often over compensating because of the new aim system. It just feels off is all I’m saying. I want in Halo Infinite the old style of aim. I literally can pick up where I left off in the older Halos but the weirdness is still there in Halo 5.

Yeah, changes have been made. Some for good and others not so much. But that’s how this is. The game will continue changing and evolving to become something greater, or it will become trash to the point the franchise dies. We can just hope 343i listen to our feedback.

If this was the case people wouldn’t be able to shoot me while I’m sword cancelling across the map on H2.

Correct me if I’m wrong here. When you aim at a 45 degree angle in Halo 5, there’s something VERY OFF. Either the sensitivity speeds up or there’s extra acceleration at the 45 degree. The game is unplayable for me. It feels exactly what Halo 3-MCC felt like before they added modern aiming.
