Hmm, I think most of the complaints surrounding the playlist stem from the starting weapons. People wanna play Snipers, but there’s no traditional Snipers mode in the actual playlist, there’s a lack of emphasis on the Sniper playstyle.
I think the most important change would be to add a proper Team Snipers mode, where the player spawns with the Sniper Rifle, and the Shock Rifle. Since the Beam Rifle of the older games is gone, I think the Shock Rifle makes for the best alternative since it can still 1-shot enemy Spartans with a headshot. No equipment, no frills, only snipers. I think this should be the primary mode of this playlist, and that it should appear more frequently than the other modes.
It’s fine to keep the other modes for variety every now and then, but I think they could use some changes. Like I said I’d start by making them appear less frequently. To play into the value of rare variety these modes now have, I’d make them extra special, while also increasing the emphasis on Sniper gameplay where possible, here’s what I’d do.
I think the Brute Snipers mode suffers from the addition of the Mangler, most fights resort to Mangler fights because it’s far more reliable than betting on hitting your opponent with your 1 skewer shot. If I had the reins, I’d reduce the required score to win, make players spawn ONLY with the Skewer, and give them 2-3 Grapple Shots per respawn. This sounds like a decently fun mode to me that still emphasizes sniper-like gameplay.
I think that maybe for Shotty Snipers, with the increased effectiveness of the Bulldog at longer ranges compared to the old shotgun, that a couple of Repulsor uses per spawn could help the mode out. Being able to push your opponent back and semi-forcing them to swap back to using the sniper sounds interesting. Performing super jumps into snipes sounds very cool and fun too.
Lastly, for Covenant Snipers, strip the shields, and swap the Pulse Carbine out for the Plasma Pistol. Without shields, the Stalker Rifle will be able to one-shot headshot other players, which is what Snipers is supposed to be all about. To add extra spice to this mode and combat the high fire rate of the Stalker Rifle, having the Drop Wall play a larger part in gameplay sounds like a smart play to me.
Yeah, I think that sounds good.
