I’m not sure if anyone else has been talking about this in other forums, but I just wanted to create a place for people to talk about mods specifically. Anyways, I think it’s awesome that the original trilogy has mod tools available. I’'ve seen some really crazy mods on youtube. Like the rainbow road one for Halo 3.

That’s just one example of all the awesome mods that people have made. But I feel like it’s incomplete.
Halo 3: ODST, Reach, and 4 all need mod tools as well, just like the original trilogy.
I think it would also help if the developers at 343 were able to make a Steam Workshop for all of the Halo Games in MCC. They probably should take a page out of Valve and Left 4 Dead 2, and also Bethesda and Skyrim when it comes to mod support. There’s a reason why people still play those particular games to this day.
Disclaimer: I am not a mod creator, professional or otherwise. And I have not heavily experimented with tons of mods. But the mods that I have played have been well worth it and I enjoyed every moment playing these mods. I would love to experiment with more modding but I feel like the barrier to entry is a bit too tedious for my liking.
So, in conclusion, I feel like there are three main things that 343 needs to do if they want to pretty much immortalize MCC.
Create Mod Tools for Halo 3: ODST, Reach, and 4 (the same type of tools that Halo Ce, 2, and 3 have).
Create a steam workshop that people can go to for easy browsing of various MCC mods.
Create an in-menu toggle allowing for the activation and deactivation of mods (in exchange for achievement progression)
The first step would allow for more mod creation, the second step for more mod exploration and downloading, and the third step for more mod usage. Like I said, I’m not a huge mod creator so I may be missing some points. If anyone has any other ideas, go for it.
Well you are in luck, that’s 343’s current plan with the MCC. Could be possible this has changed, but the goal is hammer out the rest of the creation tools first than make it easier to consume mods.
Yeah, it seems like we’ve had better luck with the legacy team than the main team working for Halo Infinite. Unfortunately, I think that team’s been pulled back to help with Infinite to get all hands on deck.
Hopefully they bring out some kinda tool that supports terrain creation because with the current system of having to model terrain with blender the process is not very welcoming to new modders
Guys I don’t know if anyone else knows, but just in case, there’s just been a new update to MCC. A big one. Among tons of bug fixes and new content, they just released Mod tools for Halo 3: ODST. It’s all in the new Waypoint post.
Only two more games to go for mod tools. Halo Reach and Halo 4.
*Forgot to mention that we’ll need Halo 2 Anniversary mod tools. Not sure if those assets are tied in with the Halo 2 mod tools we already have. And also Halo CE Anniversary Campaign.
The mod tools for Halo 2 Classic in MCC were a big deal as they allowed access to the campaign for the first time ever. however, the caveat was that you cannot access the anniversary graphics and modify them in any way which is basically just as limiting as the tools were for Halo 2 Vista.
iirc someone already made a mod restoring the juggernaut encounters, however the complete model is non-existent in anniversary graphics forcing you to play with classic visuals.
I see. Thanks for the clarification. I’m new to modding in general, so some of the nuances are over my head. The main thing I’m looking forward to whenever everything’s done is the steam workshop. I’ve played a lot of left 4 dead 2 with a friend of mine and we’ve had an absolute blast playing around will all sorts of crazy mods. I’d love to be able to do that with Halo.
I feel like another thing that 343 should seriously consider is allowing for some mods to be used with EAC enabled. I get that 343 don’t want people to mods their games to get an unfair advantage, but I feel like there are some mods that would only be cosmetic in nature.
As an example, GeneralKidd made a mod allowing people to use their multiplayer spartan in the Halo 4 campaign. Another modder made one their mods work with GeneralKidds’. That mod replaces the color undersuit with a black undersuit. They’re compatible with one another and when you use them in tandem, you can create a Mark VI armor set that more closely resembles the armor set in the Original Trilogy’s campaigns.
Again, this wouldn’t affect gameplay but I’m sure such a mod would a appeal to classic Halo fans looking for that nostalgia. I feel like it wouldn’t hurt for 343 to make it so that visual-only mods can be used with EAC enabled. I understand that it may be difficult judging on a case-by-case basis each and every mod. But it’s something I think they should consider.
