Mmmm.... Time to say goodbye?

To some of the most iconic music in gaming history, I mean.

Yes, I know this is a somewhat repeat thread, but I want people to listen to this and honestly tell me that they’re happy with the new style of music that we’re getting. That’s music from the Halo 2 main menu man! The main menu!

I can honestly say that Halo 2 is the only game where I’ve ever just left it at the menu and listened to the music. It’s sad to see that we won’t be getting anything like it ever again.

Discuss the old beloved music and how it will be replaced by a generic mix. (That sounds good, don’t get me wrong, but doesn’t sound amazing.)

We will likely hear Marty in the future…maybe not in Halo but Im sure he’ll get picked up somewhere else.

Yes it is a sad day indeed, but I am looking forward to the new music. Its kind of exciting

Give the man a chance !!!

I still get shivers listening to that piece in Halo 2.

I got little if anything from the soundtrack samples for Halo 4 but at least it wasn’t terrible.

Indeed. I’m looking forward to Bungie’s new IP.

Oh, don’t get me wrong, I will be. Just what I’ve heard so far is so, so, so different. It doesn’t even sound like Halo any more. Halo 2’s soundtrack was amazing, IMO, and it’s sad to see that everything that Marty has made from CE - Reach will be disregarded for something so… generic.

Yeah

I understand. I feel as if it’s missing something… I feel no emotion listening to the samples. Perhaps the full OST will have something…

There’s nothing wrong with the music in Halo 4.

Stupid thread #1,945,455

Seriously, you haven’t heard Halo 4’s music now have you? We have a few sample clips while in development.

I really liked the old music but that doesn’t mean I have to dislike something different. You said yourself that you thought the new pieces were good. From what we’ve heard so far yes its going to be very different, but I really like it. You can still hear Halo in the far background but it’s new, and for a new trilogy, it ought to be.

I’ve heard and read enough to realise that this music will be radically different from the original trilogy’s. So far, for something that has changed so much purposely, I’ve heard nothing that really compares to the original.

There is no question that Marty owns Halo music, BUT

the new music video is compelling and sounds excellent…

As long as Halo 4 has musical variety, and the main menu music fills the main menu music typical to Halo that consists of a slow, high-tone chant, everything will be online. That said, the last thing I want to see is a main menu filled with any kind of action music. As cool and as badass that may be, it doesn’t belong into the main menu of a Halo game.

The music sample we heard to day, sounded amazing, but that was only one song. In order for the Halo 4 soundtrack to be as good as its predecessors, it needs a lot of variety. I personally want to hear songs that make me cry, songs that make me feel bad -Yoink- and songs that make me feel like I had no worries at all (such as Peril).

We have heard about five or six pieces of music. They sound good, but there most certainly is space for more variety. And seeing that our new composer took the direction of using digital sounds, I hope their use isn’t too heavy, taking too much of the soundtrack. That kind of music is nice in the heat of combat, but a balance must be struck between intensity and tranquility.

To anybody who can’t see the brilliance of the new soundtrack… well, firstly, I hope it grows on you. But secondly, remember, you can always be thankful it wasn’t Dubstep.

They should just pair Halo with this and be done with it.

I really liked the new music- it gave me shivers. When I first listened to it I closed my eyes and thought about Halo and images just came into my head and that’s why it will be great. However it is a bit generic; I could have imagined a medieval battle and got similar results.

Overall good job!

You’re already saying goodbye to a game that hasn’t been released yet? Just because it doesn’t sound like the Halo 2 soundtrack doesn’t mean that it’s going to be bad. The soundtracks to Halo: Reach and Halo: ODST doesn’t sound like; Halo: CE, Halo 2, Halo 3 either and yet I still love them. How can you already judge a soundtrack based on samples and text? That doesn’t make any sense at all! What I’m going to do is wait and listen to the soundtrack when the game (Halo 4) is released and THEN I will judge the soundtrack.

I like the music in Halo 4 from what I’ve heard so far.
I’m sure the new guy will improve further as the series goes on and he gets into the feel of it.

Actually there are tons of similarities between all of the Halo music. A lot of the music is recycled or remastered-it’s a bit lazy actually. That’s probably why they chose a new composer, they need a change. I do hope though that some elements from the other Halos makes it into H4 in particular the Halo 1 or Halo 2 theme tune.

i liked the new music,i can really see myself enjoying the game with this. i cannot wait, im really excited. i approve

Halo 2 had the best soundtrack out of any of the games hands down IMO.

It is a sad day, but also a good day. Today, we can say goodbye and thank Marty for the wonderful work he’s done for Halo. Today, we can celebrate Neil Davidge new music and vision for Halo.
