MLG sux at Demo-ing

Seriously,

MLG has got to have the worst people to demonstrate whether or not a game is any good to the general playing public.

Why? Cuz MLG players aren’t as good as they’d like to believe. However, they are extremely -Yoink!- and prideful about the way they play the game.

Look at the asinine group think they all displayed using only br and pv. They wouldn’t even try the other weapons out of foolish hob-nobery. Like they all ran past the needler even though its somehow a power weapon (thanx now we can’t tell how), b/c of their mantra-like group think.

Another fool couldn’t figure out how to use the sword b/c it wasn’t exactly the same with a giant lunge. Hello, dumb -Yoinks!- you can sprint up to someone with it at any time thats why there is no lunge anymore, but no he can’t figure that out now people are complaining about no lunge on swords. Just cuz MLG players are dumb doesn’t mean we will all be. I get that he makes that mistake the first time, but the 2, 3rd? come on buddy.

Overall, the gameplay was made to look really stale b/c MLG players don’t know how to have fun or take any risks… cuz if it doesn’t work they’ll lose face…complex strategies are lost on them b/c they always wanna show off that skill they think they have, which is this and only this: the ability to aim small reticule weapons better than most people.

They are so stubborn that they will push their abilities with mid-long-range weapons to the breaking point, trying to use them up close, and not looking that god-like at it either while any noob with an AR could’ve mowed them down in that situation…if they’d just lose some of that pride and use close range weapons at close range would the world really end??

My point? For lots of demo available to watch its all repetitive and boring b/c MLG takes themselves too seriously, like we expect them to be great at a game they are just starting to play; and this reflects on their attitude about everything in halo that other non-MLG types try to mimic to be cool like single gun gameplay that removes all complicating elements is a test of skill; wrong there are many types of skill, like know how; Also its impossible for a game to be imbalanced b/c everyone can master whatever behavior you think takes “no skill”, so if its griefing you counter it don’t -Yoink!-. I’m starting to think MLG players suck at Halo b/c they can only be good if they ignore the entire sandbox and typically ban it for their tournaments which means they are only the best players in the world at using battle rifles, if god forbid anyone use any other weapon against them they would be toast that’s why they rig their tournaments this way and ask for mid-long-range weapons to be overpowered and good in every situation BORING AS F___ /Rant

Yes, MLG sucks at demo-ing!
They all run around with the same AA and the same weapons. Not even bothering to try some new ones out.
It did show chase the maps nicely but that is about it.

I have never enjoyed MLG in Halo, so why should it change in Halo 4.
They removed the shotgun in 3! Really the shotgun was to over powered but the bloody Reach sniper rifle isn’t?

shut the hell up you idiot, be glad you we were privileged enough to see any MP footage aside from what was shown on center stage.

I have no problem with MLG or the way they play. I don’t have a problem with the way they demo’ed, either - they chose their favourite Loadout and used it. That said, I definitely would have loved for them to use a wider variety of loadout setups.

They were playing the game how they wanted to play it, not demoing it for the public. It was only on behalf of 343’s generosity that they allowed full games to be recorded and uploaded for the public to view.

Um…how should I respond to this?

I don’t think everyone in the videos were MLG players. It looked like a few casual players were playing as well.

I thought MLG players were supposed to be good, when they went into a 1 on 1 BR battle they missed so much.

Its either there really bad or the aiming system has no lock on anymore, like when the crosshairs turn red.

In was annoyed slightly. On guy only used the Carbine and another the BR. They could’ve at least added some spice.

Ouchie post, but I did find that MLG wasn’t good at demoing.
But it was better than the IGN one… By far.

Really? You guys honestly think MLG pro players can pick up a controller on a brand new game they’ve never played before and be able to be beast at it right out of the gate?

There’s a reason why they hold skirmishes and other non-tournament events.

The MLG pros didn’t play Halo 4 because they thought they were good at it. They played it because 343 wanted them to try it out. I agree that it was kind of annoying that most of them only used the BR and PV, but that wasn’t everyone. If you watch all of the gameplay, you’ll see people who used the Carbine or DMR occasionally. There were also people who used the Hardlight Shield, Hologram (only once or twice, though), and Thruster Pack. They probably didn’t use the Needler because it didn’t occur to them that it might be stronger since they’re used to playing Reach.

Also, Neighbor and Elamite have even said that everyone who says they’re good at Halo is wrong. They’re good at Halo MLG not necessarily other gametypes. It takes a lot of humility to say that, and it proves that not all MLG player are as stuck-up as you think they are.

What you should’ve thought of was the fact that there are plenty of people who play MLG on these forums (not necessarily pros, but there are regular players), so it would be appreciated if you didn’t insult MLG in general.

Have a nice day.

First of all, I would recommend editing your post for grammar and punctuation. Secondly, 343i wanted MLG to play test Halo 4 because having Halo 4 on the MLG circuit is good for 343i’s future. Honestly, I sense a little jealousy coming from this post. The pros play they want to play; you can play how you want to play. My guess as to why they were “stubborn” and only used the mid-long-range weapons is because those are the guns that they are used to using to make their living.

I also found it funny that you thought “strategy” is lost on them. This was they first time they had played Halo 4. I think you would have done just as poorly as they did if you were able to play such an exciting game before everyone else. All of these guys were also being interviewed while playing outside of their comfort zone.

This rant was totally unnecessary. You should try thinking of things from another person’s point of view. If their play style is too serious for you, go watch some of the IGN guys playing the game. There is plenty of footage on that too. In fact, I think that the IGN guys play more your pace.

It showed that those old MLG players aren’t necessarily auto-pro’s of Halo 4, and that this gives everyone a fair chance to get ahead of the curve and do well at the tournaments.

This is exactly what needed to be said. I feel the same way. (I would Thank you, but the Thank button is broken right now. Hopefully it’s fixed soon.)

lol OP you are ridiculously biased. Ever consider that they didn’t use the other weapons and AA’s because they…gasp…weren’t worth using? The BR itself is pretty weak in the Beta state they were playing on. And I actually did see every weapon and AA used, you must be watching one video and judging off of that.

Regardless of your semantics the MLG demo getting leaked to the public was always in the plan. That’s why they were chosen to do it.

I’m not surprised 343 chose mostly some MLG guys to demo it, they chose them b/c they are known and important members of the Halo community. I get that.

This frustration rant’s purpose is to vent, and possibly chide these very good players to see their behaviors in a different light, and try out some other stuff next time…now we will have to wait until launch to find out how different weapons play all b/c they couldn’t let down that “one gun only pride” for just a little bit to test the sandbox b/c they are sooooo concerned w/ the rest of us thinking they are such greatly skilled players and it looked laughable.

Awwww! You are too kind!

No, it was boring as hell.

MLG had the opportunity to truly reveal multiplayer to the public, but the only things I learned were:

  • The BR is the same boring gun as before and can be potentially beaten at close and long range with the appropriate weapon.
  • PV is overpowered like any intelligent person foresaw.
  • The sticky launcher is useless and is a pathetic replacement for the Pro Pipe.
  • The pistol has potential (Not that MLG knows that)

They skipped over the AR, Storm Rifle, and Needler which I know I’m not the only one anxious to see. Is there even a counter for this PV? We wouldn’t know because they ALL used it EVERY 1.5 seconds. Good grief!
