Mlg playlist = annoying!

I go into MLG playlist for some no bloom competitive gameplay, instead I constantly get matched with players in party chat with or without current teammates. I don’t understand why people go into MLG if they don’t want to communicate with their teammates. What makes it even worse is the opposite team is either in a party of 4 or in my same predicament, which makes the playlist annoying to play. Do you think they should implement no party chat somehow into the MLG playlist?

Yes and in The Arena as well.

That should be implemented in the MLG and also the Arena playlists. I stopped playing on the MLG playlists because I always end up with KIDS on my team and It really annoys me. But I like the MLG Playlist because there’s no BLOOM, like you mentioned and skilled players.

Want to know something funny?

People in the MLG list (who are not already in a party) have a habit of manually muting the entire enemy team instantly due to excessive smack talking that happens both before and after games, in accordance with the MLG ethos.

After a handful of games, theres a good chance you will have been muted by dozens of players whether you talk smack or not. Thing is, the xbox live system keeps track of how many times you have been manually muted by random people and uses this as evidence to automatically hand you a mic ban once you hit a certain threshold. That means you cannot use your mic on XBL at all in any game until your (undeserved) ban expires! This is why you see a lot of people in there who are showing as if you muted them even though youve never seen them before, theyre mic banned globally simply for playing in that list. I remember it was the same in the halo 3 MLG list, mute banned people everywhere.

Just another consequence of overwrought aggression when playing a game.

> This is why you see a lot of people in there who are showing as if you muted them even though youve never seen them before

Now I understand.
Why was nothing done about this in Reach, though?

Because its nothing to do with Reach, its an automatic function of the entire xbox live system that all games run on. Thats why your mute ban also extends to every other game you own.

Thanks! I seriously never knew about the Mic banning. It’s safe to say Bungie really Yoink! us with reach.

Its nothing to do with Reach or any other game. Its an automatic function of XBL itself.

Youre missing the point, its a consequence of what happens when people have bad attitudes when playing online. Everyone loses.

They should do something to get more people to play MLG, maybe Arena ranking and some daily challenges to get population in there.

This is completely wrong. Players mute each other so the other team can’t hear their call outs.

There’s a ‘Team and Party’ chat option you know.

What you said is true, but partially wrong.
MLG players mutually mute each other because of callouts (this way the enemy won’t hear your callouts), not because of trash talk.

Understandable, but isn’t there ‘team and party’ chat you can use in the options menu? If that makes it to where the other team can still hear you, well…help the enemy team get muted, or lose because they can hear you. Sucks.

If two full teams in party chat still mute the other team for the hell of it, well I give up.

The “Team And Party” voice option is not hard to find.

The fact is, the majority of the MLG playlist is responsible for rampantly handing out false mute bans. Whether it’s because the majority of them suffer from excessive aggression or excessive ignorance is irrelevant; it’s still largely their fault. Perhaps 343 and -Yoink!- could cooperate to add a feature where users that excessively mute entire enemy teams are stripped of their ability to mute other players?

But of course, all of this side-discussion is irrelevant. I believe the matter at hand here is whether or not party chat should be permitted in MLG. Personally, I don’t think it’s right for a game to override system-level features that a player paid for. If what I’ve been hearing is true, Microsoft thinks the same thing; I’ve been hearing that they’re responsible for MW3 having fewer no-chat playlists.

Well that makes sense. Im sure its true in addition to the reason i stated, i mean the handful of games ive played in MLG had plenty of trash talking nearly every game, but only one or two made real effort to do callouts. Its just my experience

Yes, but the reason why people often dont have mics or callout is because its unranked and they dont really care, if you want some good No Bloom MLG with teammates with mics then do customs, if you dont have anyone to play with then get on MLG forums and make a thread telling people you want to do customs, or just send out a message to all recent players telling them your doing MLG customs

Well, there sure is trash talking in MLG, but it is not much more than what you can find on default.

Maybe youre right. Perhaps im not being objective about this. The mute ban problem is still real though.

I instantly mute the other team in pregame lobby because I don’t want to hear them trash talking or even talking period. I’d rather hear my team and try to make a plan for at least the beginning of the game. Then in-game the enemy is still muted so they don’t hear me and I don’t hear them. There is no need to hear the enemy team in the pregame lobby or during the game. Now the post game lobby is different you can then begin talking trash if you fell like it and if people don’t like it they can leave and not have to hear it. I think in Halo 3 there were playlists that in pregame lobby you couldn’t hear the other team and possibly in the game. And about the forcing people out of party chat for certain playlists I think it should be done I mean they can do it on Call of Duty why can’t they do it on Halo.
