MLG players ruined Halo?

Hey y’all, vVvDARK WOLFvVv here, ok, so Ive seen some people ranting about how MLG seemingly obliterated halo. so I figured id give my take.

I say yes, and no all at once.

Yes: because while they are good at the games, they feel the need to change it to what they feel to be better, and IMO if they are truly good at the games, they would just play the game as is using the ENTIRE sandbox, some of the best players i know arent afraid to use more than just one or two weapons. halo is a competitive game all on its own no matter what weapons you use!

there really isnt anything wrong with the halo games. and i dislike MLG as a whole because they think they made halo what it is. CORRECTION! it is a mutually beneficial situation! halo got more publicity through halo this is true, but MLG also gained a lot of publicity through halo!

No: because as stated, Halo did get some extra publicity thanks to MLG (BUT NOT AS EXTREME THEY THINK IT WAS) and they have contributed to the halo series by using it for tournaments and such. i dont dislike mlg, i just dislike how corrupted they seem to be and how they seem to corrupt games with their “perfect game settings”

i just recommend to them to expand their views on the sandbox, get to know all the weapons, because they all require their own unique skill-sets, and in my opinion if MLG can effectively use EVERY weapon in the sandbox without altering it, then yes they are as skilled as they claim. but they shouldnt in my opinion have as much of an influence in the halo series as they do.

P.S.: i am by no means a casual player i spend a lot of time in all playlists when i can. though the majority is spent in infinity slayer since even before CSR because i am working on weapon commendations.

Thankyou all for your time reading this

They only take out what is bad for competitive play. Not because they are incapable of using it, or whatever else.

There’s already a good discussion going on here:
Want to know who really ruined Halo?

Do we really need to do this? One thread gets created and now half the forum is all riled up.

You wanna make an opinion regarding that topic, then go post in that thread. We don’t need anymore baseless ranting spam a new thread every three and half seconds on the same topic.

ive seen that thread. and incase you didnt notice mine isnt a rant, its an objective assessment… im taking no sides. even though MLG has given me no reason to like them thus far, i really have nothing against them.

If this is a response to another topic, why not just leave your reply within that topic?

If you’ve have seen that thread then go post this hogwash in there.

If anything MLG brought more people as well as extra publicity to the Halo franchise, so I’m not seeing how MLG is bad.

I find these types of threads useless…

(But yes MLG can be picky at times)

You make it seem like MLG is the reason Halo exists!
Last I checked it was because of it’s great story and fun multiplayer.

Sorry I wrote it wrong…I just edited, for all I care MLG can keep doing there so called “Skills” thing anytime just as long as they don’t call people noobs :3

you all seem to be jumping to the conclusion that i see eye to eye with the OP of that post. he outright hates MLG. im actually drying to defend it to a certain degree because despite my dislikes i am aware that it is a valued asset of halo. i just would like for the people of MLG to understand though, that “skill” and “competetive” have relative meanings. what one person sees as noobish another can see as skillful. for different completely valid reasons. while i do have certain negative feelings to tactics and weapons that people use, i dont deny the validity of them and the certain degree of skill that they all need.

If anything, Bungie and 343 have been doing the exact opposite that MLG wants when developing the games. It’s been that way since before Halo 2.

why not post in one of those topics, rather than make yet another one?

if there was a ranking system you would only have a small time playing with MLG players until they reached the rank of the other mlg players.

what youre saying is that not MLG players ruined the game, but good players ruined the game.

that’s like almost saying pornstars ruined -Yoink!-, because, well, they didn’t.

> why not post in one of those topics, rather than make yet another one?

because, as ive stated already, i have no desire to post in pointless rants that have multiple pages of bandwagon forum goers, my op is an attempt to objectively -Yoinks!- peoples views on MLG.

I DON’T HATE MLG lol, I just don’t like the influence they had on the entire game. They can have a playlist, just don’t allow them to hold the entire game back.

IMO, i never listen to MLG. If I play Halo, I play it for my own reasons. Listening to pros to tell us wat to play and wat not to play, is not the way to go, which is a fact. Yeah…there maybe quite a few problems regarding MM, but seriously, as a competitive player, just play it and have a good time.

Wrong, wrong, and wrong.

Do you think anyone in MLG is incapable of dual wielding SMG’s, of using shotguns at close range, of abusing armor abilities like jetpack?

Of course not. Contrary to your beliefs, none of these things are any harder to use than the things MLG keeps in their gametypes, I’d argue some aren’t even remotely difficult to begin with.

MLG doesn’t remove things like automatics because they “can’t adapt”. They can adapt perfectly fine, they are professionals at the game. It’s because those things are imbalanced and/or give a ton of reward for almost no input.

An pro and a noob are equally good with an assault rifle. It’s when actual aim comes into the equation that you see the difference between the two. MLG and competitive gaming in general seeks to increase the skill gap of the game so you can actually discern the two. Some aspects of the game have little to no skill gap, thus they are removed from competitive settings.

Seriously, when CSGaming makes a claim like “THEY ADDED BR’S TO MATCHMAKING BECAUSE THE NOOBY MLG PLAYERS COULDNT ADAPT TO SMG STARTS” how does anyone take that seriously? Anyone can play with SMG’s, not everyone can be proficient with a Rifle.

Now just imagine for a moment, someone decent at the game and someone like Bravo are thrown into a Jetpack + AR only match. You couldn’t tell who was the better player, as both would probably hit all of their shots with the gun. It would also be boring as hell to spectate, there would be no tension.

Like a very similar and recent thread, pointing fingers at who ruined what isn’t the right way to go around here.

Locked.
