MLG Dallas

Come this day we need to promote this a lot. We need to get the viewers back for it. There might already be a thread saying this, but we need to get Halo BIG and Back on the Circuit. Promote on Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, Xbox Live, Waypoint, etc. We need it Halo 4 to be BIG and Stay BIG.

So, why do you ‘need’ Halo 4 to be big in MLG?

You’re asking a lot from Waypoint…

A lot of users wouldn’t watch the stream under any circumstances. While I’ll be watching, there are a lot of bigots that will not.

Edit: Apparently one got here before I posted…

> So, why do you ‘need’ Halo 4 to be big in MLG?

Well Halo Reach was taken off the pro circuit do to no one watching it or caring to watch. Because of that Halo Reach was taken off the pro circuit. Halo has been in the pro circuit since Halo 2. Its not just me wanting it to be on the pro circuit, its a lot of people, including the Pros themselves (of course). If we can get people to watch the pro events, it could make Halo 4 as big as Star Craft and League of Legends or close to it. If you don’t know those games are VERY BIG, a ton of people watch the events.

Let’s not turn this into a pointing fingers thread.

I’ll be watching when that goes live, but I don’t think it would make much difference to ‘rally up’ people to watch. Some people just aren’t into that stuff.

I know I’d rather play soccer than watch it.

But see even the people who are into it don’t even watch it, which I mean I understand certain things may stop you from watching, you don’t even really have to watch it a lot of people just open a tab, mute it and close the tab and do something else.

Because maybe he loves competitive Halo? I know shocker, right

If the game is good enough to watch, it will get watched.

If, or rather when it turns out to be as bad as Reach, viewers will drop, entrants will get dropped, the game will get dropped all the while matchmakings population significantly drops.

I dont think you even realize how big Sc2 and LoL are. SC is a national sport in South Korea and LoL is setting records for concurrent viewership. Halo was the most popular competitve FPS on console and king of the pawn league, but PC games will always be more popular competitively than console because world-wide consoles are more expensive and everyone owns a PC that can run a low requirement game like LoL. Halo is not competing with the PC games for viewer-ship and I dont think the Halo community really cares about viewership, we just want a good solid game we can play for years on end and not get frustrated with due to annoying game mechanics. As the formula has been more and more complicated with AA’s and random systems that has become increasingly harder.

Especially when you have devs who insist on designing the game for non Halo players, rather than the SC2/LOL method of designing for high level play, which trickles down to low level MM. CTF is a perfect example of this. The made the game so it functions at low level (e.g. massive waypoints over the head) so that non communicative/low level players know whats going on.

p.s. How big SC is in Korea is always a tad overrated, they have multiple games that are competitively huge for younger players, but its hardly mainstream media as much as we think, though they still have some huge sponsors. And oddly, SC1 is just as popular as 2 still.

MLG will probably be using default settings minus radar at Dallas (which the pros will still win, not like this myth that they cant “handle” default MM), and they’l still not watch. Its that hatred of the top level players that only happens in Halo.

I can’t wait, I’m gonna be streaming it.

should have assumed you would come here and say something negative… Go back to cod man… All you say is negative stuff… Just because you don’t like the changes doesn’t mean it won’t be a great game. Sorry you can’t camp weapons anymore man.

But what he said was right…

First Halo Reach MLG event after the game came out, just an exhibition tournament with 5k on the line, 240 teams.

1 year later, with a purse of over 150k…59 teams.

Yeah… Competitive Reach is dead, I’m not sure how you expect him to be positive about it.

> So, why do you ‘need’ Halo 4 to be big in MLG?

good advertising, the more people that see how well halo could perform under a tournement will really attract all kinds of peoples attention.

Its not dead, but Spectator mode is hovering over the life support machine.

that was one halo game… He needs to stop treating every other halo game like its reach. They’re not all going to end up the same.

Notice his use of “if”.

If the game does not learn from the past mistakes of Reach, then it will suffer.

I think the core of the game is much better than H3 or Reach, but worried about the multiple levels of gimmicks, and no announcement of spectator mode and a good ranking system. I still have hope.

I honestly couldn’t care less about MLG.
