Mkvb in Infinite lacks marks and decay compared with in reach. And its proportion is worse than reach. Last, it doesn’t have its own machinery arms, even fracture cores and rakasha have it. I wish more people can recognize this issue and reflect it to 343 on Twitter and Reddit or somewhere elee
Some of the armour pieces are different from the Reach versions too.
They need to really step up their game.
The marks and decay part is linked to the coating. I wish for a ‘clean/new tot dirty/damaged’ slider. I personally like my armor as new/clean as possible, but for you or others it’s different.
Anyway, I don’t think it should have marks and decay by default.
I do think proportions are off, and those should be fixed. Also, all shoulderpieces are misaligned with the shoulder.
Can definitely be remedied with coatings, I prefer a cleaner MKVb personally.
Do you have a visual example?
It does, they are near identical to the Reach counterparts, and do in fact differ from MKVII.
I believe this is a “float” issue regarding the stance of the model in general and extends to all cores.
The Spartan model in the customization setting uses a stance that misaligns the shoulder pads. It’s not so much that the shoulder pads are misaligned, it’s the skeleton’s position that’s misaligning them.
Regardless it does need to be adjusted at least in the menu.
I won’t lie, I would’ve preferred some kits without accessories like the grenade belts in the example you provided. They should include the original of course.
ODST is also a clear example of “not original”, as it’s a combination of Halo 3 and Halo Reach’s variant. That being said, it looks damn good regardless.
Look at the Mark 5 B helmet on Infinite and compare it to Reach’s mark 5 B. It’s terrible.

Is this a proportion issue or a design issue?

I honestly don’t see a proportion issue between the two, they’re definitely both different from a design perspective in relatively small ways. The art design is in line with the original vision rather than a reimagining as was the case with H4/H4G did with some older armor styles.
Unlike the “Decimator” armor that Halo 5 thought was an appropriate successor ![]()

If I’m missing something pertinent, I apologize I just don’t see it.
It’s just the difference in design. Reach had better proportions and made the armor look a bit buffer.
Again short of actually seeing an example, I’m not sure how proportions come into play.
I know that the Reach model was more ‘hunkered’ and in an actionable pose whereas Infinite is completely upright. But this is more of a stance thing that a proportion one.

The reach armor model is less bulky than Infinite’s. That’s exactly what I mean.
I think this is more of a stance thing honestly. I’ll have to look at it, but I’m 90% certain Reach’s model is shoulders forward, leaned forward, in a actionable stance.
Infinite is upright and open.
Look at the MKVb Spartans in the “ready” stance at the beginning of a match and they have similar “proportions” to the Reach model. It’s all in the stance for the most part.
Proportions are very similar, it’s just the stance creating the illusion they’re different

The only one I can think of that may have different proportions is ODST. Otherwise, I think you’re right.
In MCC you can see the Spartan is slightly crouched, has their fists balled, head tilted down, and is leaning slightly forward. On Infinite, the spartan is standing straight up, has their hands loose, isn’t “slouching”, and the helmet is facing straight forward.
There also could be design elements to make one look more “strong” and the other look “frail”. For example, Reach uses a more gritty and grey art palette. Infinite is bright and colorful, and doesn’t have very mean dull colors. All of them are very “neon” and fresh.
You can see this difference clearly in this video: https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=N3HMYh0HmkU (remove the space)
Reach is a lot less saturated and makes a stronger, more “heroic”, look.
