This thing is too reliable, it needs a nerf regarding its bloom and accuracy. I find it really annoying that its rate of far and accuracy can beat most primary weapons like the AR, BR. It honestly irks me when i see players switching to it after spawn like its their only strat, which is most likely the case. That being said, one person does it, next thing you know the whole lobby is using it and the entire sandbox is one dimensional. Its kinda dumb in my eyes, and defeats the fun. Plus there should be no reason for a sidearm to be out gunning a primary without assistance from another player or weapons prior.
These are just my thoughts and i hope some community members can express their own thoughts and experiences regarding this over looked weapon.
It only beats the BR at short range, the bloom hampers its RoF to much at a distance unless you get lucky. It DOES outperform the AR, but only if your aim is good, the AR is better at short-mid range if you arenāt as precise. Which Iām honestly fine with, itās the default starter weapon and a way for noobs to still participate and get kills.
I think both are perfectly fine as-is and have a place in the current sandbox. Really donāt think nerfs are necessary, both are quite replacable with other weapons.
I can understand why you think that. However a starting sidearm shouldnt be out performing primary weapons weither their starters or not. Its a sidearm, not a magnum, a sidearm. Unless you find something more effective on the field, it should be used as a last resort. I see what you mean by it out performs the BR at short range. Yet the BR is a higher teir weapon than both the AR and sidekick making it very odd that the sidekick is as effective as it is weither its close range or not. Im kinda a ballistics guy so wraping my head around a 10mm out gunning a rifle regardless of range is very odd. And the sidekick is very effective at long ranges having no regard for range it does the same relative damage as it would at mid an short range. Therfore is why i am in favor of nerfing the bloom and putting it in its place as a sidearm.
You know actually, if the sidekick had a set fire rate like a cap that wouldnt allow you to exploit. It would help put it in its place alittle more efficiently like the magnum in HALO 3. Just a thought
I mean, if you start thinking about it in terms of real world logic rather than gameplay balance, thereās a lot weirder stuff in this than a pistol outperforming a rifle at certain ranges. Itās a game, sidearms are just a classification here for weapon spawns. Itās OK for a pistol to have a purpose besides as a backup to a primary, lol. This is Halo, a pistol WAS the primary in earlier games.
Sidekick is not a reliable weapon for me, every single game, when I switch to it at some point it starts firing really slow and jams, add to that sometimes I can unload every round into someone and it inflicts no damage, so I canāt trust it. Itās one of those things where some people experience no problem, but for others like myself, the sidekick is a lemon. Itās like the Kneedler, for some people itās a beast, for me, itās a death sentence.
That would be the Magnum, not the sidekick. And im not talking about other weapons in the game. I understand its a video game that upon most things is the extreme obvious, and balance is problem in question. My concern of all concerns is its automatic go to being that its as reliable as it is. If its a first go to after spawn that is the absolute opposite of balance. Something is to powerful? That being the sidekick. And when i say Iād like to see it be more accurate as real world logic, im not accounting for the other weirder weapons like Covenant or forerunner weapons. If its going to be a kinetic weapon it should at least be relevant to real world ballistics. Pistol round, rifle round
I usually start with the AR I donāt switch to the fast trigger pulls of the sidekick. I can and do on occasion, also I use it well just like other people that spam sidekick every match. I just donāt want tendonitis from gaming. Every time I see someone spamming the sidekick for kills, I kind of laugh at the lengths people go to for an āedgeā. Enjoy the tendonitis or arthritis, Iāll save my hands so I can keep my hands thank you.
If the Sidekick decides to get nerfed, I think it should only be a small nerf to the bloom. Have the reticle slightly increase faster just to make it a bit harder to hit opponents at mid range when spamming the trigger at full speed. Leave the damage and rate of fire as it is.
Just had a game where a guy with a sidekick deleted my shield and life in 3 secs while shooting him with an AR at short-mid range. You wanna know the real ākickerā? I had a 2 sec lead on him from behind. This is unacceptable. De-sync? Didnt experience it at all. Just rate of fire and reliability.
I was gonna say the same lol. why do people think the only way to reduce range in Halo is with Bloom? Bloom?? I thought weād decided bloom was not the move 12 years ago lol
Nah.
Because of how the Sidekick and AR combo is on most spawns, you donāt have much of a desire to trade it out for any guns that might do a little better in some capacity.
Take a look at the VK Commando.
Because of how accurate the Sidekick is at range, you donāt see people trading out the SK for the VK.
You do see it with the BR being swapped out for it tho.
You donāt see people trading anything out for the VK. Itās that bad. You might see a pro give it a shot but me? That gun is a bit hard to use consistently.
Me, personally? Iād trade the sidekick for a BR because itās easier to use and more accurate at range.
But my point is the fact that the starter weapons are too well rounded.
Take a look at the Halo 2 and Halo 3 pistols.
Good guns when used right, but you always saw people dropping them for more favorable goods.
Most times I play Halo Infinite I donāt even bother finding guns because the AR and SK are THAT GOOD of a combo.
