well we know how a shield on mjolnir works… it repels the force applied to it. thats ok but here is something that I have been wondering. when you given some a chest full of shotgun shell at point blank, you should receive some damage as well. here is why. according to law of motion. every action will have a equal and opposite reaction. what this means is that when you are firing a shell at a spartan… the shields will not only break but go through the spartan however lets slow down things… here are diagrams.

/\ that is a shot gun shell. when it is fired the O or the bullets will move out ONE AFTER THE OTHER. NOT ALL TOGETHER. this means they dont hit the shields at the same time and as long as the shield dont BREAK it will repel the bullets in the equal and opposite direction and angle. ie… a bullet coming straight will bonce back in the exact same direction it came from. here is a diagram.
the initial hit. incoming fire.
#ignore the ’ sign.

)O—<------------- (bullet 2)
)O\ (bullet 3)

now how each of these bullets will deflected. as per law.
‘’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’/ (bullet 3)

)O/
‘’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’\ (bullet 1)
see? AT LEAST 1 bullet of the shell fired at point blank should deflect and hit you because you are so close. i think this should be a thing in halo.

> 1. Halo is a video game. Video games are meant to be fun and give us a bit of an escape from real life2. I don’t think the pellets from a shotgun shell have enough force after a richochet to do enough noticeable damage to a Spartan’s shield. If this were the case flying debris or shrapnel from an explosion that happened a good distance away, would also damage you.
Pretty much sums it up.
There are other emersion things I’d rather see changed like moving away from a Spartan charge doing less damage, if you can board a vehicle of a Spartan why not the ai too (no exceptions), fluidity in a Spartans kit ie equipment/abilities, mods and UNSC weapons that where in previous games being available. When it comes to OP game breaking stuff like armour lock make it one use only (advanced sensors and upgraded shields can be just as trolling as a one use armour lock). Balancing all of this is dependent on what it end up categorised as in terms of scopes, mods, 1 times use, un/limited use, ability, or equipment.
If you think about it with shields if you where to have a harder inner layer and a softer layer on the out side that would cushion it.
Also your spartan does get pushed back a little when shot if enough shots hit just right you can feel your self slowing down when walking forward.
the shields absorb the energy from the bullets. When the energy is too strong (such as bullet impacts) the shield is weakened. A lot of energy and it breaks. Until then however the shield is absorbing the energy so the bullets will not have enough energy to ricochet. Energy shields technically aren’t actually a physical shield so the same properties and laws cannot be applies. Also like some people think the shield is not made of energy as energy does not exist and is actually just a concept or more specifically defined as the ability to do work. Therefore the shield would most likely be something such as a magnetic field. Sorry if this is confusing I’m writing in mobile and its late and I’m tired.
