So, I watched the trailer like everyone else and I have to admit that I feel the graphics didnt feel all that impressive.
I mean, dont get me wrong there is some cool things i seen for example, the flying suicide grunt and how the Brutes charge at you so aggressively. Its also pretty cool you can knock specific parts of the armour off.
However, after watching I quickly loaded up Halo 4 & 5 videos and compared them to Infinite and was surprised by how great those games still looked even after 5 years+. They look wayyy better in my opinion.
Considering this is a new platform, I guess I expected to be amazed and that is not even close to the feeling I got. The Brutes face looks like it was pulled from Skyrim or something to me, in the background you could see items still trying to load in and everything feels a little cartoony to me personally. (I guess that is subjective, so i wont take points away from that) But I just feel sometimes unnecessary changes are made by 343 for no reason. Like, why do we need a new magnum? Why is the Carbines design so different? Ultimately, the feeling I got from this trailer was vastly different from what i got from the 2018 trailer.
All this to say, although im going to buy the game regardless, im curious… is anyone else concerned about the direction infinite seems to be going? And if not, why? (This is my question) … Maybe im being over-dramatic?
Also, please let me know if im mistaken, but i was under the impression that all Halos would have a Beta going foward after the MCC and with the release date supposedly around the corner im kinda worried that the ambitions for this game were set too high as there is no mention of a Beta, and we’ve seen no multiplayer. I dont want this to be a bash 343 thread, because it was just a 8 min demo, and its still in devlopment, but after 5 years of waiting i expected more, personally. Feels like we are back to copying and pasting what works in other games.
Lastly, im sure the guys at 343 worked very hard and I hope I am proven to look like a fool on release. But id be lying if i didnt say i was genuinely concerned. Thoughts?
I am very concerned. The move towards a more cartoony and saturated graphic style makes the game look dated. Compared to the E3 2018/19 trailers that we got, it seems kind of misleading. I’m hoping this changes when we get closer to release, because comparing the Reach AR to the one seen in Infinite is like comparing a Jeep to a Smart Car. There’s no visible signs of weathering or wear and tear, it’s just plain and flat. The new UNSC weapons all had disappointing designs, especially the Magnum which looks like a generic modern day hand gun (despite Halo taking place hundreds of years in the future). The Covenant/Banished enemy models were too saturated and a lot of the visual effects (like the plasma explosions, gunshots, etc.) just looked whack. Audio design was very stripped back and basic, especially when compared to 343’s previous work. Say what you will about H2A and H4, but each gun, vehicle and explosion sounded like it had a lot of impact behind it and some ‘oomph’. Music was alright, generally felt a little more Halo than what we’ve had in previous games but nothing that stuck out to me. Sprint seems like it could just not be in the game at all and no one would know the difference. When Chief uses it to get up that platform before the Brute drop pods land he moves so slowly that it doesn’t seem like a major enough increase from your normal movement speed. And good god, if the grapple hook is a default player ability and not a map pickup in MP, I think there will be riots in the streets.

I’m with you. Honestly it looks like it’s going to be a flop the fact that ray tracing is being released sometime after launch shows that somethings gone wrong. The gameplay looks clunky, basic and overly simple.
I’m on the side of the sprint is good and aiming down the sites is fine.
I enjoy the graphics of 4 and 5 but not the style. This looks outdated both visually and graphically. The fact that 343 has said infinite is supposed to be a 10 year project after launch is extremely concerning. It’s like they took everything bad and put halo 3s skin over it.
im also super into halo lore but it’s been screwed around and time skipped now so much that its lost coherence. The grapple hook mechanic physics are pretty bad too. The brute villain also looks like a joke…
When halo wars 2 was announced and they introduced Atriox that gave me chills, then seeing him take down 3 other Spartans in a single fight was like an “oh -Yoink-” moment, you immediately had a villain with a big enough threat level that gave the game its grit. I dunno I want it to be good but it seems to lack so much.
i also hope I am wrong and blown away. I don’t want another mediocre below average game in the franchise.
