Mixed Feelings about Mantis

While i’m glad we get a new vehicle to pilot in H4 but i’m a little optimistic about it.

My only worry about it is that it’s going to be a favorable over all of the other vehicles because it would be the more powerful one. In the trailer we do see it blowing everything up, but i doubt that’s the actual situation. We haven’t seen a comparison of the Mantis with other vehicles.

I don’t think it’s going to be as strong and powerful as the scorpion tank but will have the capability to beat it if it gets the jump on it.

To be honest, it’s one of those trailers where 343 is showing off something really awesome but when it’s out in the wild, there will be ways to counter it. It’s to build up hype and it worked like a charm. You wouldn’t want to show a trailer where the thing is getting wrecked constantly. I seriously doubt the Mantis can take much hits even with energy shielding (yes the first playable vehicle to get energy shields has to be a Mech of all things)

Regardless of how it handles, i was in love with it the moment i saw a short clip of it in the E3 trailer. Mech+Halo= Awesome.

Are you sure that’s the right word? Wouldn’t “Pesimistic” be a better choice?

It’s a trailer, they show it tearing stuff up for the sake of showing it. Wouldn’t be a good trailer if all we saw was explosions with Mantis debris flying everywhere now would it?

I bet it’s fine.

I’m dissapointed in the choice of map remake though.

I rather like it, and as seen in the link below, it can T-bag.

Ok, why does it matter to you if others have it as a favorite over every other vehicle? (I don’t get your logic) It’s personal preference, and I don’t really see the point you are making. You actually do sound more pessimistic than optimistic.

I mean that people will prefer it over other vehicles because it’s the more overpowered one. We really don’t have a side by side comparison of them so we’ll have to see

a UNSC mech to top if off xD

The perfect vehicle dont exist, the Mantis gonna have a really bad thing, because its a GREAT vehicle, can destroy flying vehicles, normal vehicles and in long and short distances, something bad gonna have

To be fair, most of the vehicles in the trailer were coming straight at the mantis. The ghost parked right in front of it to show you how the mantis can stop on things.

In actual gameplay, the ghost would strafe or do hit and runs. The banshee would be higher and do strafing runs, and the scorpion would use its distance to pick off the mantis.

Soooo what’s wrong with that? I prefer a hornet over a banshee. Does that worry you?

I like the concept of the mantis. Of course 343 is going to make the vehicle look good in their video. I doubt it’s uber op. It’ll probably be taken down by two tank shots. Stop worrying about what others prefer.

Yeah, that totally caught me off guard. I didn’t expect it to have shielding, not that i am complaning mind you.

Makes sense though. With all that’s been going in the lore, looks like ONI (and by extension the UNSC) has been adapting Forerunner and Covenant technologies to everything now days.

true, that’s why i’m interested in an actual comparison for it

no, i don’t mind that it’s someone’s prefered vehicle as long as i get to drive it every now and then.

I’m just interested in a side by side comparison (basically i want more info about it)

Spawning with PP and Plasma Grenades will do.

If you notice you can’t evven shoot when the Mantis gets deactivated by the PP, so it’s balanced.

I think its only going to be able to take one hit from a tank the second would blow it, its own counter to stop a tank from doing so is that it seems to be pretty nimble. Plus it has a freaking missle pod thingy and a rather large chaingun.

This video isn’t there for deep analysis of it’s pros and cons, it’s about hyping up the new vehicle.

Still, it looks like it’s a bit faster than a Scorpion for sure, but less power than a Scorpion/Gauss Hog. I imagine the rocket reload and turret cool down are significant enough that you just won’t mow through an entire map. I’m also willing to bet that although it has a wide firing angle and great mobility, I’ll bet turning around to face flanking enemies may become an issue.

Yeah i would imagine once it gets going in one direction its a little sluggish to turn around.

Well I want it to be strong. It’s a mech looking thingy. From what I are if could likely stand up easily to an Atlas from mass effect.

ok first off its “Pessimistic”.
and last. your right they only showed it off, BUT using that same logic it could be the best thing out there and would up set vehicle battles. i am worried about the mech too to me it could be over powered. but i will know more when the game comes out.

A well manned gauss hog will possibly shred it from a distance relying on superior mobility, precision heavy fire and target size.

But I bet in campaign it is going to be a a freaking blast
