Mixed Demo feelings

I certainly have mixed feelings on the demo, and I hope 343 reads my post. I re-watched the demo on YouTube about 4 times in a row and these are my thoughts.

The negatives first:

  • The Warthog sounds like some Honda Civic with an aftermarket exhaust. It does not sound gruffy/powerful at all. I’d be embarrassed to drive that thing.
  • The weapon designs remind me of CoD/Destiny for some reason and they don’t sound very powerful either.
  • I know it’s just a demo so far, but the gameplay graphics seem…cartoony, they don’t stand out and just seems drab and low-quality.

The positives:

  • The cutscene graphics look amazing, 10/10 actually.
  • The grappling hook attachment (or whatever it’s called) seems awesome! Throwing fusion coils at the enemy is going to be a lot of fun.
  • Bringing the Brutes/Banished back is a solid choice. Elites fighting alongside Brutes will make the gameplay more challenging yet rewarding.
  • I’m okay with Sprint. I know it’s a very divisive topic but if you’re a “walking tank” Spartan supersoldier, it would make sense for them to be able to Sprint/use “superhuman” abilities.
  • The open-world idea is also a solid choice. The wildlife looks natural in the environment as well.

Overall, I think this will be a good game as long as they can make some good choices to the sounds/graphics.

Don’t you think a “walking tank”, “spartan supersoldier” or someone with “superhuman abilities” should be able to “”“run”"" and shoot? This is indeed a divisive topic.

Sprint is the least of my concerns, after this demo. It’s everything else that has completely devastated my interest. I don’t want to play Destiny-Doom. I guess I’m going to be playing MCC and Halo 5 for the next few years.

I think from a canon point of view, the Office of Naval Intelligence invested huge amounts of time and money into the Spartan programs. Over time they would make refinements to the Mjolnir suits to make the Spartans better in combat, probably based on Spartan feedback. Maybe there could even be an option implemented for the player to enable/disable Sprint in the settings menu so it’ll make everyone happy.

I also hated the warthog, I wish they stuck with the classic look. The grappling hook just screamed “chasing trends” again from 343i which was sad to watch. The grunts still do not look great, but at least the elites seem to have improved. The brute at the end was absolutely cringy the way it looked, sounded, and acted like an orc from LOTR.
