Mission 8 impossible on Legendary???

First mission where I went into double digit attempts to try and complete and still haven’t yet. Between enemy units going after my side base (which I can’t reach unless I want to fail the objective), the stupid laser/vortex that randomly comes down annihilating my new batch of troops (thanks 343 for making me lose my voice), and the banshees at the end. I just can’t keep up! I can manage to get down to 4 minutes, but that’s it. And that’s with delaying the destruction of the beam with healing drones.

Did I mention the stupid laser? The vortex? How they sometimes come right after another? Most infuriating mechanic in a game that I’ve ever had to deal with.

That one was pretty tough on Legendary. Try laying Lotus Mines every chance you get and make 2 artillery turrets and two anti-air turrets on your base. The rest of the turrets should be anti-vehicle or anti-infantry. Other than that, just clog up as much space with tanks as you can and drop ODSTs and those temporary turrets behind them every chance you get. Good luck!

I think tough is an understatement lmao. Problem with using lotus mines is that all my resources are constantly going towards building units (due to enemy infantry and the laser/vortex) and upgrading what I’m able to. As for tanks, I can’t get those out fast enough or constantly for them to actually make any difference. Every time I’ve used them, they’ve always died pretty quickly and I don’t have enough resources to keep pumping them out.

I’m literally in the same boat I have attempted this mission 3 times already and I’ve gotten to 2 and half minutes close to completing so frustrating :rage:

I am also having a hard time with this,
I’m not even playing on Legendary (I play easy)
I never got to the part where the Laser/Vortex, maybe I have?

Thanks for the advice, by the way.

The laser/vortex are AI leader powers that are consistently more used when playing on harder difficulties. I started my heroic campaign and have seen about a 75% to 100% increase of AI leader powers used. I don’t think they even use leader powers on easy.

Yes they do.

I did this first try, I thought it was pretty easy to be honest. The only mission I had a real hard time with was the one where you set up the Kodiaks. I believe with legendary I went with complete hornets and some healers. The hornets fly away from the beam very easily. I never had any issue with the banshee’s, I had all anti air in their path of travel. Anti vehicle on the side that always spawns vehicles. Then anti infantry for the side with infantry and the center was a combination of the two. Just get all the expansion bases and get those turrets up. If you need help just add me on Xbox and I can do co op with you if you want. I beat the entire campaign on legendary already and about 5 on legendary co op.

It most definitely isn’t impossible. I have beaten the entire campaign on legendary hundreds of times. It is a hard campaign which is what Legendary is supposed to be.

He’s got the idea. Literally the best and probably only realistic way to go about it. I keep all of my air in between the north and east routes, prioritizing the east route (where the locusts come from) because the turrets do pretty well everywhere else. Maybe just swap out another siege turret for anti air once the time comes because it’s legendary. Around 4-2 minutes a drop ship will drop off hunters right on your turrets, so keep an eye out for that. And same with needing a co op. I can show you what I mean better in person. Best of luck

Also you can look up on youtube for a walkthrough on the campaign on legendary. That’s what I did, the one I followed gives helpful tips. One is a lot of these missions are easier if you go hornets, they are quick and easy to get around plus they do great damage.

I beat that mission on my first try but it took an hour and forty minutes lol, it was tough! The only mission on legendary I did not beat on the first try was mission 11. You really have to be smart (or get a fairly easily repeatable glitch) to beat that one. Coop is certainly easier on all the missions.

don’t say it is a hard campaign…killing all of our units with a beam and vortex does not classify as hard. spamming abilities does not classify as hard…

i have beaten the campaign on legendary coop i did like half solo before i got bored, it is not hard its just infuriating. because the only reason you fail sometime is because of abilities that are spammed every 30 seconds. i wont shy away from it, the campaign is a terrible representation of a good rts campaign. look at star craft 2, your units almost never die because of ability spam which ==== an awesome brutal campaign experience. no swearing no cursing because your freshly made army gets beamed and dies or is practically dead. i really don’t care what they do since i have already beaten it, but for first timer rts players getting beamed and vortexes every 30 seconds is not a fun experience or classify as the hard multiplier. hard should be done through unit quantity and composition ability spam.

just imagine if you actually faught army like maxed population of 120 in the campain, do you guys even understand how much fun that would be. imagine if difficulty was done through units not ability. just saying

This, I didn’t think the campaign was hard, just really frustrating to build up an army to have it gone in seconds due to the leader powers.

My method for that mission was having 4 scorpions blocking the infantry path with the hero and 2 nightingales. I had the rest of my pop filled with hornets and a couple of nightingales over the locust spawn. Made sure I dropped lotus mines over the locust spawn as soon as possible. Couple of anti air turrets later on the banshee flight path and then a siege on the main base to hit the drop in infantry.

Build turrets everywhere, anti infantery and anti vehicles. At the end, anti air near your base for Banshees.

Bring all your army at the cross of 2 roads from where enemies come.

Don’t forget to build the 2 mini bases (one top right and the second bottom left).

Make Anti vehicles like hornets and Cyclops.
