Mission 10: Midnight: Didact boss battle

Remember fighting Tartarus in Halo 2? Don’t you wish you could fight the Didact with guns and grenades? That’s what I think! We should be able to go hand-to-hand combat with the Didact. Don’t get me wrong, shoving a Pulse Grenade in his chest is beast, but I still wish we could actually fight him like Tartarus! Leave a comment and vote on the poll suggesting you opinion! Should 343 and Bungie make changes, or do you like it the way it is?

You actually didn’t fight Didact. All you did was move the analog stick. Tartarus battle was more of shooting and avoiding his Gravity Hammer. But if we did fight Didact, i would’ve loved to kick his forerunner butt.

Tbh, I don’t really care. Either way, I think the reason why it wasn’t an actual boss battle is because the Didact isn’t dead. I believe there is a lot more in store for this guy so it wasn’t as climatic as we would want it to be. The fight with Tartarus was okay…it was a little repetitive with running around and then smacking/shooting him occasionally. Well, I guess that’s pretty much all the boss battles I see. :stuck_out_tongue:

Tartarus was a Brute Chieftain, the Didact was a forerunner warrior.

Using UNSC/Covenant weapons against him would’ve done sod all. I think the only way you could’ve done a boss fight was to massively increase his health, I think the entry to the composer was a substitute for a boss fight. You had to defeat pillars and run through the trench etc, something you wouldn’t normally do in a Halo level

it wasn’t a real battle at all!

The Chief presently would not be able to go toe to toe with the Didact.

Still could’ve done something better than a single button press to take out the Didact with a Pulse Grenade pulled out of nowhere.

Big scary forerunner warrior, capable of manipulating gravity, taken out by a single grenade that didn’t even explode like the others do.
I was happy with it. Bring a boss in halo 5.

You’d think the great and powerful Didact would be somehow immune to his own weaponry. Guess not…

Not sure if you saw him vadering chief but it wouldnt be a very fun boss battle. As much as I dislike quick time boss battles, Taurtarus was a brute, he used mostly physical strength minus the hammers blast to hurt you. The Didact on the other hand can just grab you by the throat and whisper sweet nothings into your ear until you choke out. I suppose they wanted it to be feasible(im gonna ignore the fact a nuke gets set off here, im saying gameplay wise)

Didact would destroy Chief, no a boss fight wouldn’t make sense

> You’d think the great and powerful Didact would be somehow immune to his own weaponry. Guess not…

That would be a bit much.Forerunners cant kill themselves,Only other races haha. Like the ancient humans.

Seeing that the Didact could have easily thrown John into a pit to die in their first encounter, no. It would completely screw up who he established himself when he first fought against him.

It wouldn’t make any sense for the Didact to fight John on his level. Tartarus is a different story because all he had was an oversized gravity hammer. The Didact can throw his opponents around using the same(yet improved ) tech.:

> You’d think the great and powerful Didact would be somehow immune to his own weaponry. Guess not…

Seeing as a pulse grenade was planted into his chestpiece, probably not.

> Didact would destroy Chief, no a boss fight wouldn’t make sense

…if only he had more than one Spartans they would’ve taken the Didact down the same way the ODST took down the Brute Chieftain after he stabbed Romeo with the Hammer.

Doubtful, the Didact would just smack all those Spartan, including Master Chief, off that bridge with those powers he has in his suit.

The Tartarus fight sucked. Hard.
There is no way a Halo game can do a character boss fight well unless gameplay mechanics are heavily altered to make such a fight engaging and interesting.

I’ve been playing a lot of Bioshock Infinite recently, and one of the things I really appreciate about the game is that it generally stays away from trying to shoehorn main characters as bosses (except for one instance that comes completely out of left field, there was no anticipation of fighting a main character). Cornelius Slate seems built up to be a boss fight, sending a few short waves of enemies at you and then inviting you to come after him, but you’re met with a simple choice of shooting him or not shooting him and leaving. Jerimiah Fink is built up as a secondary antagonist, but he has his brains blown out by another character. I feel like these kinds of things aided the story better than the typical trope of anti-climactic boss fights.

It was stuck inside his armor, so the explosion was contained inside it.

True…

The lack of a Didact boss fight is one of the main reasons I can’t stand Halo 4’s Campaign, other than the total lack of replay value, of course. The quicktime event was such an anticlimatic letdown.
