You’ve probably heard of “missed opportunities.” Well, I’m going to talk about just that. 343 Industries didn’t nail the storywriting in Halo 5 but they missed out on several opportunities too. With the introduction of Blue Team, they could’ve added moments in the campaign where the character’s unique abilities shine through, say, Linda will provide protection from above with her sniper rifle for the Master Chief and his colleagues as they advance forward. Another example is Vale decrypting Sangheili language to provide intelligence for the team.
Another one that has heated debate in the community is the cinematic cutscene between Master Chief and Locke. A Spartan-II with superior augmentations, decades of experience on the battlefield, and not to mention the supreme man he is for he has done numerable feats throughout the Halo franchise. He would’ve wiped the damn floor against Locke. But, just like the trailers, they should’ve had a gun battle ensue between the two protagonists. The player would select the side they wish to choose and the opposing side will be a boss that the player must defeat with their unique abilities. How does this play in co-op though? Blue Team versus Team Osiris maybe?
The squad elements should’ve been implemented much better in the Campaign with robust commands. There isn’t even enough advanced commands in the Campaign and the artificial intelligence respond in a dumb way. A game like GRAW 2 (and that’s from 2007!) has better squad commanding than Halo 5. The engine limitations hinder further creativity and small details that are crucial to the release product. For reference, take a look at the PC release of GRAW 2 or better yet, take a look at Star Wars: Republic.
Please, 343i, think about the opportunities that you’ve missed in Halo 5 and try to take a step forward with Halo 6.
The guy whose job it is to fix the story I do not envy them. At this point throwing everything out and starting over would be the best option if they could get away with that but they can’t.
At best they can do is make a simple but deep story that is an isolated bubble within the mess and use the rest of the media to try to clean up.
Even if the story of H6 isnt good look at what they had to work with.
I agree. I fully expected a big showdown between Chief and Locke. It would have been cool to have 2 story lines and 2 endings depending on which decision you made in choosing Chief or Locke. Sadly we will never know what happened between Hunt the Truth and what we got. Kinda makes it hard to get pumped for any Halo 6 marketing though. What if it’s all as meaningless as Halo 5’s marketing?
They should hire the fast and the furious writers. How they lumped all that lore into FF5 made it a global phenomenon. I’m only half kidding.
Technically speaking, the spartan 4 armor was much more powerful than the spartan 2 armor, which balances out their strengths based on their natural ability. Mentally the spartan 2s are superior, but when both are in armor they are evenly matched. (Got this info from halopedia)
They know what they did wrong. They’ve heard our complaints

I can mostly buy that. But I’m sorry, I would pick the Chief to dominate any hand to hand battle any day of the week.
That being said, I did think the battle between a chief and Locke was pretty cool. I know it rant perfect, but it was still entertaining to watch the first time I saw it.

Hopefully. Halo Wars 2 set up for Halo 6 looks like its gonna be intense IMO. I just hope that Halo 6 can redeem all the problems that occurred in Halo 5. I’m still trying to look at Halo Wars 2 story in detail.
They have a lot to fix up with the story in terms of characters, writing, setting and tone all unhampered by corporate bs, publishers and rewrites. The game designers also need to fix up the enemies at their core (soldiers, jackals and maybe even elites) which makes the campaign and WZFF heavily unbalanced as well as make a much better ai to synergise well with the squad based system (I have yet to witness a good dynamic ai system in FPS games since Half Life 2, Borderlands(ish) and Halo 3). I personally would like to get rid of the revive mechanic (as it is a cheap excuse to make players much weaker almost to halo 2 “wet tissue” durability) since it hampers the flow of the game especially on Legendary difficulty (my preferred difficulty to play on).
