⭐ Missed opportunity (kill cam)

I made an identical thread over on the official ‘Halo Infinite Steam forum’ here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1240440/discussions/0/3195865512451496946/

It’s already quite cool to pick someone else’s weapon up off the ground and have it stylized in the exact same manner as when your ‘opponent or ally’ had it equipped.

I understand it might be a controversial position to take. I get it, not everybody likes ‘kill cams’ and would rather skip them or not have them in the game at all. Your point of view is just as valid as mine in that regard, and I respect that.

Yet, it seems like such a missed opportunity by ‘343’ for them not to have included a kill cam in-game. Especially given the ‘heavy emphasis’ they are putting on furthering customization à la charms, weapon models, and coatings. It is a given that stylistic combinations which players handpick at their leisure while tinkering around with the ‘weapons bench’ will only get more varied as the years go by.

Such a feature would allow players who just took you down (or vice versa) to further showcase their weapon customization by having their opponent see their ‘first-person’ point of view for several seconds after initial contact.

Having it be ‘optional’ is the most likely scenario if kill cam capability was ‘on the table for discussion’ or being ‘seriously considered’ by ‘343’ for future implementation. Personally, I never fancied the idea of taking away or replacing features that others already have or might prefer (such as no kill cams), so a more personalized customization via a ‘game menu’ toggle switch (on/off) sounds like a rather reasonable solution.

I think a kill cam is a must to be honest. It’s way easier to identify cheaters.

Sounds interesting to see.

Not necessary to that end. Theres a whole theatre mode that you can watch the entire gameplay of the enemy team. Much more effective than claiming a one-off lucky snap as “cheating” just because it looked suspicious on a kill cam.

It honestly might not be a bad idea. Considering how long some of the respawn timers can be. And it could stop player from making call outs after their deaths which i think would make gameplay a bit less cheap that way.

I use the “bodycam” (the current one) to tell my teammates what’s going on there.

Yeah, it would be more interesting.

I like kill cams because they help me learn what I did wrong in a fight. They’re a method for learning and improving.

Also, it’s fun to watch a wickedly good kill from the other person’s perspective.

Theater is never live gameplay. You will never see an accurate picture in a kill cam

I dont think 343 has every had a reliable playback feature. Halo 4s killcam was as bad as infinites theater

The kill cam would help to see if I need to go to theater in the first place. I’ve wasted a lot of time in theater reviewing what I think to be a cheater only to notice in theater it was actually just horrible desync from broken game servers.

Yeah people despised Halo 4 (and for good reason) but killcams were one of the best features in that game. Great learning tool for newer players, leads to less frustrating deaths, and as others have stated would punish cheaters with wallhacks and aimbot.

Umm skipping them wouldn’t fix the issue since using kill cams would be basically cheating. I’m glad there not in just like I’m glad there’s no stupid promethean vision nonsense since that was irritating too. Kill cams just felt like an excuse to let bad gamers gain an advantage.

It’d be good, but the playback feature has to be added and there’s also like… The value of seeing what’s going on as you’re respawning.

What are you even talking about dude?

The death cam you get now gives more information than the kill cams ala Halo 4 did. Seeing how someone killed you doesn’t tell you their location, it doesn’t tell you your surroundings or anything.

I’ve always thought a killcam could work as an opt-in from your deathcam, but then there’s also the issue of potentially giving away too much free info by way of revealing enemy positions, though this could theoretically be worked around.

Except it does. Let’s say someone is a sniper for example…stealth would be very important to them and soon as that annoying kill cam happens then that player who died would know that snipers exact location.

There is a thing in game called a killfeed. It tells you what kills who. You can see via the killfeed that you were sniped, now you wouldn’t know necessarily where they would be but because of lens flare it should be pretty freaking easy to find out where they are.

Besides, even assuming this, couldn’t that Sniper just change locations after the kill, to throw that person off?

This isn’t’ CoD my guy, you can’t hide in some bushes and be hard to detect or anything. Things are more obvious.

Umm doing anything is risky. If the sniper is hidden then moving could compromise their position and draw attention to the enemy. Nobody but you are bringing up CoD. Not everything is simple as your trying to make it sound. Kill cams feel like cheating and I’m glad it’s not in Infinite.

You still haven’t acknowledged how it would make cheaters more obvious, thus leading to less hackers in Infinite, but okay.

I just think this is a conversation based off of different information. If you play Halo and know absolutely nothing, have no idea of any callouts on any of the maps, play nothing but solo queue then its different. To me the current Deathcam gives craptons of information, but to you knowing where the entire enemy team is may not actually matter. We play different games, as crazy as that sounds.
