In the Spartan Ops Ep.9 trailer, Palmer puts on the Spartan helmet. It’s unknown if this is temporary or not. Can’t you help feeling that Palmer’s a big hypocrite? All that hate towards Halsey, then she takes part in the Spartan IV program. Halsey created Spartans, saying this just as a reminder.
Are they purposely making us hate Palmer? Are they pulling a “Severus Snape”-like plot twist?
Spartan-IV program doesn’t use kids and recruiting is done by invitation not abduction which were the issues with the II and III programs. Being a Spartan-IV doesn’t necessarily make palmer a hypocrite.
I agree. I think Palmer is made out to be hated by people, which for me makes me love her character. There’s almost always a character you love to hate.

What I meant to say is, the Spartan IV program is another generation of Spartan soldiers, and Halsey is “mother” of all Spartans. Palmer doesn’t seem to show a liking to Halsey(she was talking to Jul’, would be hard to trust at first anyway), but she uses Spartan armor later nonetheless. She did a pretty good job of kicking Promethean Knight a**es in the Ep.7 cinematic, she could have taken those scouting Elites with a fire team.

Halsey was only the mother of the spartan IIs. She had nothing to do with the IIIs and IVs. Technically the majority of spartans have never even seen her.
Ahh but it was Docs idea that led to us III’s (hows that alil roleplay for ya :P) as well as the IV’s in the distant future, and cant forget the Orion experiment with johnson. Just because you put your name on something doesnt mean it was your original idea, if that makes sense lol

Is it just me or does the phrasing here make it seem as though the OP didn’t realise Palmer was a Spartan?
Palmer puts on that helmet because it’s HER HELMET and she’s going off and getting down to business.
While I’d like to see the character of Palmer developed, she is a bit crass. I just don’t get why she’s against Halsey. Were it not for Halsey, humanity would be dead already. Had it not been for Halsey, Palmer would be a Spartan. That woman owes her LIFE to Halsey.
She’s a character people love to hate, true. However there is only so much room for that in Halo. We shouldn’t be hating on UNSC characters.
Palmer is going to die and Chief will take over as Commander of the Spartan on the Infinity.
Palmer is almost the machine the Chief once was, minus the mental conditioning it requires to hold such responsibility. And now she is being sent to commit patricide in a form by being told to eliminate Halsey, the creator of all Spartans.
She is doing this in part as a form of rebellion against her eldest of brothers, John-117. Her way of breaking away from the old and in with the new, a way of showing the once leader of all the NCO’s that she is the leader of all the Spartans, at least on Infinity, the capital ship of the UNSC, the lead ship of all ships in the UNSC (how’s that for ego boosting?).
… Little does she know that John is just now starting to understand what it is he has been fighting for. John is not reclaiming his galaxy, he is reclaiming his humanity.
Palmer has no idea what kind of rodeo she thinks she’s about to hop into, but she’s not going to be pretty on the other side of it if she continues her current path.

…Only that she and a team of Spartan IVs could not clear out an LZ that MC-117 wiped out. On the continuum of badassedness, she is not in the same galaxy as John-117.
I think in terms of a greater understanding of the galaxy and himself, I agree that John-117 has her beat. The Chief disobeying a direct order indicates that he is a free-thinker. At this point, I almost think that he uses this “this is what we do” line to hide the hurt that he is feeling, losing Cortana.

Spartan IV program started before that information (about how original Spartans were made) became public… So Palmer was already a Spartan by the time she ever had a reason to hate her
Spartan IV program uses consenting adults mostly (some Spartan III’s and II’s incorporated)… So what no conflicting morals here bro. Not a hypocrite.
