Minor Gripe: Too Many Medals

I noticed this in 4, and it seems to be even worse in 5, but I think there are way too many medals. It is similar to what CoD and Battlefield do with giving you points for everything. It just throws complements at you for every kill you get, which I admit does feel good, but eventually feels hackneyed. Earlier games, like 2 and 3, gave you medals but they felt earned. I don’t want this post to seem like “blah blah blah, the old games are better! I am living the past!” because it’s not. But in those games, earning those medals felt like an accomplishment because they were for actual notable things. Now it seems like you get at least 2-3 medals for any kill you got. It’s like “You got a kill with a power weapon, take this medal! And the guy was reloading too, so here is another medal! That BR shot hit him in the head, have another medal! Oh man, he killed you before so this is you getting revenge, take another medal, man!” I believe Halo: Reach had a bit too many extra medals too if I recall (really not too sure), so this isn’t me bashing 343 or anything. I just feel like the sense of accomplishment is gone now.

Please don’t hate me, I just like stating my opinions on things.

I don’t disagree. Not that it’s anything so major that I’ll boycott the game, but I wouldn’t mind medals being a bit more challenging to obtain.

Yeah, that is pretty much my opinion. It is nothing major, but it would be a nice and subtle change. One video I watched showed a medal that is given if you get 2 kills with a power weapon you picked up. Seriously, whyyyyy.

They should not take them out, but the guy doesn’t need to announce them to make you feel special. 3 headshots in one life, not hard 343 so you don’t need to throw it at my face. They should remove a lot of the announcers dialogue IMO, I know I won a round of breakout you don’t need to tell me with that drugged voice. They should really fix his voice, yes fix, his voice is broken

I think the over-abundance of medals exist so that when a lesser-skilled player does something, he feels better about himself; after all, at the end of the session and he sees his final tally, seeing nothing might kill his motivation to ever play again while seeing something, even if it’s trivial, reinforces him.

Besides, even though a lot of people probably wouldn’t care if the medal count was trimmed down, there’s also a large segment of the community who would be mad as hell and use it as an excuse to rant about the death of Halo.

I don’t think all to many people would be mad about fewer and harder achievable medals. I share OP:s opinion about this and I think that 343i should cut down on the medals.

I couldn’t agree more. This isnt game breaking or anything but its pretty dumb what you get medals for now and its becoming laughable and a joke.

I’m beyond tired of getting medals for the most simplistic tasks I want to feel like I deserve that medal. Next they will be giving you a medal for sprinting for 15sec straight…

Agreed, medals used to feel like an accomplishment now it seems like it’s become a ‘rewarded for remembering to breathe’ system
